I mean, really...someone explain this to me. Does it accentuate the meaning of the word? If I say, "OMG!!11! RB2 needs moar metal!!" does moar = more than more? Or if I have the best band evar, does that make it better than the best band ever?

I think it started with shorthand texting or something. Then getting creative with other keys and symbols. Probably due to not knowing how to really spell a word properly so putting in symbols rather then letters to not look like a dumbass? Not really sure though, just a kid thing I think.

Regardless have you seen some of these teenie boppers text? Jesus, they text faster then I can type and this is with a phone that has 3 letters/number. Talk about NO life. Anyway I think it all started there?

But I do think it has something to do with emphasizing a word more for a few of them. Like you mentioned "moar" is like MORE! But just a guess.
