Just as an FYI the Best Buy Midnight Sale in Indianapolis is cancelled. After waiting around for 2 hours the workers came out and told us they didn't get any games in. They also said that they may not have any in tomorrow. So if you haven't left yet you might want to call your local store to make sure that the midnight sale by you is still on. Talk about dropping the ball. I thought Harmonix brining EA on was supposed to eliminate problems like this???

Tell that to the country to the north of you. Unfortunately, EA does have a reputation of launch delays to protect. If they got this game out on time and smoothly, people might not believe it was EA.
Seriously though, it would be great if everyone got a copy like they want, but it looks like now it is not just Canadians that will be complaining about this

HMX has nothing to do w/ a store getting their copies.. their delivery service could have messed up.. instead of casting blame at the company giving us an opportunity to play a game like this, think before hand.. sometimes stores do not get their copies on time, is it a crime? no.. does it suck? absolutely.. just check another store.. good luck with your search tho, it does suck..

The guy at Best Buy said the issue was EA. I was implying that I thought EA was supposedly brought in by Harmonix to help with distribution. If this was the best they could do then it sounds like Harmonix could have done just as good of a job on their own.
I also forgot to add that the Best Buy employee said that approx. 70 BB stores weren't going to receive their shipments on time.

Guess I'll have to call.
edit: just called, and they said they're still doing it 8-)

You forgot to mention that, that Best Buy employee probably makes $7 an hour and took the last copy home with him, instead. As stated previously, if that Best Buy didn't not receive any games, it's likely the shipping managers or shipping facilities issue.
Also likely, is that they may have recieved only a handful of the rock band bundle, and all the employees bought it/reserved it first and there are none left.
Either way, *****ing about it here isn't going to help. Go find another store (If you live in BFE, then that really does suck for you man, but nothing we say is going to help)
Lastly, the title is misleading, not all Best Buy's canceled their midnight sale.

I just read an interesting article on the Daily Journal (local Indiana news paper) about a trailer being stolen. Nothing in this says that this is the problem, just interesting and a possible reason for the shortage.
From the Daily Journal:
"Thieves hauled away a trailer filled with electronic games, music CDs, and books about electronic games at the Con-Way Freight Center facility this weekend.
An estimated $100,000 in electronic merchandise was stolen over the weekend from the freight terminal at Interstate 65 and U.S. 31.
The goods were to be distributed to Wal-Mart and Best Buy stores in southcentral Indiana."
This is going to be in Tuesday's paper. I saw it on their website just now.

What's interesting is that my wife's best friend's husband (that's an odd chain there) works at Best Buy Corporate here in the Twin Cities and no Best Buy employees are allowed to purchase the game till the first week of December. "The consumer comes first" is the line that they were given due to the limited supply at launch.
In any case good luck to the OP on his search for the game.

at my store, employees are barred from purchasing any rock band products until mid-december. Yeah, it somewhat sucks as an employee, but it helps reduce stuff like this.
I'm not sure how many other stores are doing this - we did it at ours with the 360 and PS3 launch also.

I have my copy preordered at Gamestop and will get it at 10 in the morning. But since I was up I decided to go over to the best buy a couple miles from my house to see what was going on.
They only had vouchers and did not have any bundles, at all. Chatted with them a bit and they mentioned the same thing about the vendor screwing up and it possibly being a national problem.
Now on the other hand I went over to the Walmart just down the road and they had 16 360 bundles and 9 PS3 bundles on the floor in a cage (and the full game set up as a demo). I could have picked one up but decided against it since I had preordered mine and there were plenty of other people there who wanted one.
As a side note I followed a couple guys out who had purchased 4 bundles (he said they were 'gifts' but I smelled ebay) and a group of kids came in and here is the direct quote when they saw the boxes, "Is that like Guitar Hero? It has drums too? Holy SH!T we need to buy that." as they break out into a run towards the electronics.
And that was my midnight Rock Band story.

My Best buy in Florence KY got only 4 PS3 versions in (of which i was third in line and got one) but didn't receive any 360 bundles. Best Buy gave out rain checks and with the rain check you will get a $50 gift card. So I got a rain check for a 360 bundle. So I will have that I hope tomorrow.

That's a little bit of a drive from Lafayette, but maybe I'll have to get the Gamerfront crew to come down and rock it. Got any info on the gig?

I work at Best Buy in Indiana and heres the deal. Best buy doesn't normally tell the stores what will be coming on the truck til just before they arrive, which is why they wont pre-order (mine wont.) The story about employees not being able to buy is a mixed one as well. It depends on the district, we haven't heard of any restrictions at my store yet, but I open today so I guess I can get back to you on that. Also as far as EA helping with distribution, I'm not surprised it got botched if it did. They would not guarantee the number bundles to arrive at any location (Best buy and other chains) so standby for that if you think you got one on the DL.
