I'm sorry if this has been brought up/discussed in a previous thread...
I was reading Destructoid's review on the 360 version of Rock Band (specifically concerning Band World Tour) when I came upon something interesting:
Another issue I ran into was an extremely confusing save and band system (on the Xbox 360), which I'm not even sure I can explain properly ... it's that confusing. Characters who are created as a guitarist can only be used as a guitarist, so any desire to break out and play some drums must be squashed -- an entirely new character must be created to fill that role. While all of this is certainly annoying, none of this breaks the game, and can hopefully be tweaked for easier use with a forthcoming patch.
For those too lazy to read all of it, it pretty much says each character made for a band can only be used with that certain instrument that was originally assigned. While it's easy to just physically switch with your friends when you want to play a different instrument, it's just not the same playing with somebody else's character. Does anybody know if this accounts for the PS3 (which I'm sure it would) as well?
Also, it'd be pretty easy if you were able to "kick out/replace" members with others in queue, so if you ever have a different mix of friends over, they could just choose their characters and go play a la Wii Sports.

I'm pretty sure it accounts for PS3, but dude... when you're playing the game, you aren't looking at the background, and your character is still on the stage. Plus, what the hell is wrong with making a new character to fill in a separate roll? For me, I'm going to have 4 diverse people, one for each instrument.

I know I'm gonna have a weird mix of 6+ people coming in randomly, so I guess the question is whether or not a new character can be used to continue a pre-existing WBT career.
And yeah, it's more of a cosmetic thing (in regards to playing as your own character), but it's kind of like an attachment thing, where you put time and thought into creating a character, ya know? It's like playing a game where you use your CAC, but then are suddenly forced to use a different character.

I like the idea of creating my own cast of characters for each instrument and giving them their own unique touches reflective on what they play and such. I don't really get the need to just have one character, I can't even get through more than 3-4 setlists on GH without needing to change characters for some diversity.

I totally understand, and your restated question makes a lot more sense. I would be also be interested in the answer. It would be realistic, since bands add and remove musicians often (all depending on the band).
Well it comes out tonight, won't be long until we find out.
