Yeah I love Muse!

Recently swallowed my pride about it sounding too much like Radiohead and realized they are totally awesome \o/

Also I doubt you watched the other two videos- you just hate Tool admit it ;)

How did you get vids of GHWT? If you can get more, please film "Schism" on expert guitar. That's the one chart I'm dying to see.

I tried to watch Vicarious earlier (I subscribed to you) and it was just way too shaky- couldn't see the TV well in the beginning.

I was invited to play the game in LA along with a fellow podcast host and a bunch of Scorehero moderators- These are all the videos I have- right now i'm uploading a short video of Crazy Train (sluggo playing)

I may play it again on PS3 in October though so who knows!

What was the overall opinion on the drums? Better/worse than the RB2 kit? And any word whatsoever on how the compatibility with RB2 will work?

I'm asking these questions because I found out that getting the GH:WT full band set locally and importing the game only version of RB2 will be a LOT cheaper than importing the RB2 band kit, so I'm considering my options...

ASSASSIN!!!!!!!!!!

HMX, this could have been us!!!!!!!!(IMO HMX dropped the ****ing ball with no Muse, for real, best music act in last 10 years IMO)

I'm so happy after looking at this video that the improv I've been playing on my real drum kit is ridiculously close to what is charted, which means I've been playin it right by ear.

the songs look good, the Ho/Po timing window still seems very lame (that article you posted mentioned they were able to hit a HO BEFORE they hit the preceeding note!?!). the group UI definitely sucks (RB did it right puttin the OD charge under the fretboard). The new mechanics (sustain Ho's and notes WHILE sustaining, also open notes) definitely look fun and add a new dimension to the gameplay.

However the graphics, ouch. I wasn't a huge fan of Gh3 graphics but wow. those characters look amazingly stiff and lifeless and while i don't mind SOME over the top effects (flaming guitars, etc.) the lightning was rediculous. the initial lightning bolts looked kinda cool (if unrealistic) but the little lightning bolts coming out of the guitar looked stupid.

that scorehero review was a really good review though. It helped me decide to forgoe my preorder and wait for a pre-owned discounted copy.

A lot of the guitar stuff sounds like the "good in theory, bad in execution" content you see games sometimes make. Oddly enough, Neversoft makes a lot of these, with the create-a-trick in THPS being a good example.

TM,

Thanks for the vids. In your preview thing you posted on SH you said that the vocals in GHWT were "better" than RB/RB2. The explanation you gave then and afterwards here didn't really make sense to me and after seeing the vox vid there, the vocals look exactly the same. The person is practically monotone humming the song and breezing through it. So I don't get it, what's different or better? To me, it looks almost exactly the same. Is it just easier and that means better, or is there something tangible that actually makes it better?

but Tool FTW.

chillzatl

Guitars are still over charted, but at this point I think we simply have to view it as this is how neversoft charts and how it's going to be. It doesn't ruin the game, but it certainly takes away from the feel when you're jumping over hitting 3 notes chords just for difficulty.

I was just trying to figure out how vocals scored- if you look at other vocal videos you can see that people are singing full voice

See?

I certainly see in that vid that he's actually singing it, but to me I just see that being a song that's easy for him to sing. Much like Oasis, Pumpkins, STP etc are for me. They're in my wheel house, much as that one seems to be in his.

Again, in watching the videos it just seems the same to me, so I don't see how it can be called better (broken talkies aside). You're still matching pitch within an octave like in RB right? If not, what about their system is different from a technical standpoint? I guess that's the real answer I'm looking for. If I knew clearly what was different from a technical standpoint, I'd understand how it could be considered better or worse. Thanks.

I don't know the technical stuff behind it- I just know that when I sang The Doors like Jim Morrison I didn't fail

When I sang Metallica like James Hettfield same thing

if they made the vocal engine looser than RB so be it- I think it's more fun.

Also the whole word's counting toward your score makes vocals as competitive as everything else. No more 42 way tie for 1st place on songs.

also, practice mode.

Well, I sing a majority of RB songs in original octave/voice styling and I tend to do pretty good. Granted, I can drop a combo here and there, but for the most part it's my fault. I never hum or "pitch dance" instead of singing properly, unless I've never heard the song before.

IMO, the RB2 vocal system was loosened. Not a whole lot, but enough where you're given space to make mistakes or be a little jittery.

toymachineSH
09-25-2008, 03:53 PM
I defenitely agree with that- there is a lot of vocal mischarting imo though and it kind of discourages me from trying to be competitive

I don't understand it very much either- once the game is released Neversoft will probably be assisting Scorehero with their score tracking, so we will know a lot more then.

Awww didums. He's not happy about the graphics. Does it really matter? Nope, not in the slightest... That's my view though. And I'm a minority here it would seem when I say I don't mind them.

As for duplicate tracks, the same thing happened last time. They both got rights and both made charts. What's the big deal?

the graphics are fine- you wouldn't like them no matter what they looked like to be honest.

If they were realistic you'd say it was a rip off of rockband
if they are cartoony it's too arcade

it's a paradox- I think it looks fine personally and many people will disagree but I think GH3 looks better in HD than Rock Band personally. Harmonix is the KING of animations though wow 0_0

anyone spot a tapping animation yet though?

I definitely disagree. I love the more realistic look, and though Guitar Hero 3 looks mediocre at best, even looking at it from an arcade point of view. World Tour looks pretty good, though. It really has that "arcade" feel to it.
