The September Tournament was sick! Really, really close competition!

Please try to bring your own instruments!!!! This is HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

You are allowed to play in 2 bands as long as at least one person in that band wasn't in another band. This will ensure single people won't miss out and will make for a bigger prize pool!

EVERY SINGLE SONG THAT HAS EVER COME OUT THAT IS AVAILABLE TO PLAY IN ROCK BAND 2 is fair game. EVERY Rock Band 2 Song, EVERY Rock Band 1 song that is transferable, and EVERY DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT SONG! YYZ is banned.

You also can not pick any song twice.

If bands are tied there is a 1 song playoff.

That's better I fixed one of the rules.

I feel like we are starting to become one of the biggest tournament spots around! :) I can't wait for more challengers at the next tournament!

Based on the response we've already gotten on our previous tournament's topic and our score hero topics it looks like this one is going to be HUGE. I'm already estimating 10+ bands. Can't wait for this. See you all there.

Game Universe got the ion drum kit in last week. The tourney will prolly be a fun time for all the competitive drummers to try it out.

Also, just want to remind folks that EVERY SONG that has even been released on Rock Band will be fair game in the tourny.
(only exceptions are those that didn't make the cut to Rock Band 2. i.e. Enter Sandman, Run to the Hills, and Paranoid.)

Can I just sign up the day of the event?

Sonic3dx
09-28-2008, 10:43 PM
Yeah, we do sign-ups that day. All you need is a complete band and $10 per person ($40 all together).

Also it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you bring your own instruments. Guitars, drums, even microphones. We will have stuff to use, but we can't guarantee that they will meet the standards of whatever you use at home.

The ION kit is friggin amazing! I would recommend stopping by just to check it out anytime! Just playing the cymbals instead of the pads is worth it alone.

These tournaments are awesome. I drove up from New Jersey to go to one of these at Game Universe over the summer. I'll definitely be there.

Ok here's a rule....

You must play your instrument by yourself.

You can not have 2 people playing drums.

You can not have someone holding the button on a guitar for you.

You can not switch off singing during the same song.

YOU CAN SWITCH WHAT INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY SONG TO SONG.

So you can play guitar one song and bass another but there is only 4 people allowed in a band at maximum.

You can have a 3 member band with someone that sings and plays an instrument but this has been friggin disastrous for people that have tried it before.

It was only disastrous for us on Suffragette City (I really didn't know the lyrics). I did 99/99 My Sharona and 99/98 Moving to Seattle at least. :D

If we can make it this time, our singer will be with us though so we won't need to worry about that.

Ok I found it. This is NOT allowed in our tournament. I think this was what started this discussion on the other forum.

If you need to do this to pass a song in rock band you just suck ass at drums. I would like to see someone do this in person though.

SUCK IT UP AND PLAY FOR REAL.

I would think that things like this should be really, really, frowned upon for tournaments. Play the game the way it was intended. This tournament is to see how better you are at the game than other people not how you can figure out to cheat.

How long do these normally last? I'd love to go but I'd have to leave around 7PM.

Also, I'm an expert drummer if anyone's interested :D

I'm also interested in how long these tournaments take to complete. I'm also confused about the payouts.

Venue fee gets 20%
1st place gets 30%
2nd place gets 20%
3rd place gets swag?

What happens to the remaining 30% of tourney fees? Or did I read that wrong and it's:

Venue fee gets 20%
1st place gets 50%
2nd place gets 30%
3rd place gets 20%

In which case it adds up to more than 100%?

GameUniverse

The venue gets 20% of all entrance fees...

Then you cut up the rest

50
30
20

It shouldn't matter anyway cause people come for the competition and not the money right? ;)

Tournament will prob end around 8pm unless there are weird stuff happening... I could see it ending by 7pm... It will take a while and could go later too.

If my band loses I could leave right? And I'm coming by myself so I need to be partnered up. And can people come to watch? I'm really nervous about this.

GameUniverse

Wow, epic bump.

Game Universe has unfortunately closed (http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28806) due to getting horribly screwed by their promoter(?) for GameUniCon.
They are not currently running tournaments, but he's got a weekly bar night on Sundays in Framingham. (http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28807)

Also, if you are looking for other bar nights (also no tournaments planned) in the Boston area, check out http://www.NightlyGigs.com
They run events at several bars a night on most days of the week.
