View Full Version : Rock Band 2 drum problem - bubbling

After an RB2 party I had, where a lot of people played the new drums, I noticed my red pad had a bubble in the center, right where the circle is. I felt it, and I could feel that the circle was now indented - like the core of the pad had been beaten deeper into the pad, causing it to disconnect from the rubbery 'head'.

After a lot of testing, the drum still works 100% fine. I'm having a lot of trouble with fills now though, and wonder if its because I've done something to the velocity sensor part of the pad, or if it's because of the center being depressed now. It still registers all rolls, ect... in a chart though.

Also - it's now significantly louder (because instead of hitting a solid drum head, it slaps the slack of the bubble), and it's lost a lot of its rebound (again, because the bubble absorbs the strike, so by the time I actually make contact with the pad itself, there's no force).

I don't want to abuse the warranty system, because the drums themselves still work perfectly - but these minor problems are really aggrivating on a kit thats less than a week old. Any suggestions for a fix, or should I just send it in?

Next to model number it says XBDMS2...

Not sure where to find the EL, SL stuff, and thats the first time I've looked, and that weird number is where EL, QM and SL used to be...hmm...

Yeah, I'm really torn on it. I actually tried to level it out, but it just isn't working, and I'm having problems starting fills on Red and can't tell if it's ME, or if somehow the bubble is blocking the force of the hit, and creating a weird sound because of the velocity sensors. Since I have 60 days, and it's only been 9, I'm going to try and keep looking into this thread to see if others have this problem, because if this is just 'how its going to be', i'll keep them, but if I can get this problem fixed, that'd be great.

I have to emphasize though -- they still work perfectly, it's just this damn bubble...

have you taken the pads off???? if so you will notice there is only 1 way they can go back on... if you put the pad on wrong it will create slack between the pad and the mold around the pad... notice on the underside of the pad there is a plastic tip that is only located near 1 of the rubber bushings that tip has to fit in the bottom right corner (on my model 22808SL) if not then it will bulge in one corner creating a crater in other areas of the pad

to find your model number (el, sl) first check in the battery compartment, 2nd place to look would be on a little metal piece in between pads, it think its between red and yellow

Ill check for the model number later.

Also, Ive never removed the pads. The bubble appeared just after a party where everyone was trying the new kit.

I never actually had a "bubble" mine just indented, this was just from normal use. I ended up taking the pad off, to inspect and discovered that nothing was actually damaged. I completely took apart the pad and found out that only the rubber was indented. So it appears to be just "worn" down. Yea I know its pretty much brand new. Once i receive my rma, I will definitely be using some sort of silencer, at least for extra cushion.

I went to Best Buy they had the sl(i have el) and theres was bubbled outward, but the pads appeared to be a slightly different color, idk if theres different pads between models??

So basically harmonix needs to get a better rubber pad, I am afraid that eventually the rubber will wear down to nothing.

I suggest finding the best silencer available, you may want to consider peeling off the existing rubber and putting on a better one.Once I get my new drums I will install what ever the best pads are (homemade or purchased)

yea i got my RMA drums today after returning 2 sets only to have to wait on EA's rma anyways... noticed some key improvements already... one the pipes fit more snug in the feet... they are actually a little larger to reduce vibration... the battery compartment is entirely different with spacers and actual rubber on the cover and not the foam type stuff so this is probably in response to the controller d/cing from the xbox after days of use jarring the batteries loose.... looks like they addressed most concerns before sending out rma's .... not really that they were ever out of em but i think they spent some time to get the sets right before sending them out... my old set was a 22808SL (inside battery on cover) and the new set with major improvements has no number on it so i uploaded some pictures for compairison http://www.duproductions.net/images/rb2drumsrma.jpg
