For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatable
with Guitar Hero guitars. I thought I'd drop in and let you know that
this is not correct.

<p>Really?&nbsp; So then there isn't anything new planned for the guitars of Rock Band?&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp;But IGN is somewhat correct, as us PS3 owners are screwed out of not using our PS2 guitars.<br>&nbsp;</p>

Using a ps2 to HID usb adapter you should be able to use the GH ps2 guitars on ps3/wii. Xbox 360 is different though, with the security chips. Maybe a custom adapter dongle?<br>

No it wouldn't work because of the "PS" button has to be pressed in order to play PS1/2 games, and the Guitar Hero controller (nor current adapters) have that button.<br>

<P><FONT size=2>Ign's Quote:<BR>One thing is certain, if you are about to buy Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360, the Red Octane instrument will not work with Rock Band. The peripherals for Rock Band are being created by Harmonix and will not be identical to the guitar recently released by Activision for 360.<BR><BR>JasonBooth Wrote:<BR>For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatable with Guitar Hero guitars. <P>Just to make things clear, will i be able to do everything gameplay &amp; hardware-wise with my 360 Guitar Hero controller as i would with a Rock Band guitar?&nbsp; </P>
<P>Are these "new plans" in terms of the hardware of the guitar with new features, buttons etc. or in terms of the game software that will let you do different things?</P>
<P>I just want to be sure if i spend $100 on Guitar Hero for Xbox 360 i won't be left out on anything for Rock Band &amp; have to buy a new controller.&nbsp; Thx.</P>

<p>the 360 guitar has some sort of expansion cable port on the bottom... any additions such as a pedal) could be plugged in to there.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>And even if Rock Band didnt support your guitar, Guitar Hero 3 will.&nbsp;</p>

The Nykko announcement was news to us, too. For now, all we can say is
that we don't know but we'll let you know when we have some answers.<br>

<P>&nbsp;Yes they both are Harmonix employees.&nbsp; Staff, in this case, indicates moderators of the forums.&nbsp; We hope to have HMX tags up and going for our folks soon to clarify things.</P>

Right, about to follow are some probably quite n00bish questions, and all I want really are some yes or no answers so thanks in advance to any help from anyone! I will be buying for PS3 before you ask so atm I have no guitar controller.

1. Will the Rock Band guitar work on Guitar Hero 3?
2. Are either the Rock Band or GH3 guitars wireless (on PS3)
3. Do the extra 5 buttons on the RB guitar have any additional function (I may have missed some news but the last pic I saw had 10 buttons on the RB guitar.

Thanks again!

why would you bump an almost 4 month old topic with questions answered numerous times?

anyway,
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. They are for fast guitar solos, where you don't have to strum, all you have to do is press the buttons, so you can either one hand it or use both hands on the neck.

I'd just like to add my vote to this (since it's my personal crusade now) as the ONLY reason I still have a PS2 around is because I can't play the Guitar Hero games on the PS3. Since Neversoft/Red Octane have already admitted even they can't get their GH3 PS3 guitars to work with Guitar Hero 2 and GH80's (although they claim to have achieved full compatibility with GH1, go figure), my chances of finally severing my umbilical cord to my creaky ol' PS2 lie squarely with Harmonix.

Help me Obi-Wan-Harmonix, you're my only hope.

Ditto.. i no longer have a PS2 so i'm stuck with not being able to play GH at all.. i have still kept my GH PS2 controller and games in a hope that someone manages to get it working.. But i would be happy if the Rock band PS3 Guitar controller works with GH 1 and 2 then i can just keep the games and ditch the GH ps2 controller.

Just Had An Idea! What if The RockBand Ps3 Guitars Had a Ps2 Port in them So then you Could Hook up The SG to The Strat.

Not to sound rude but, what is the point of that?

Still some things I'm confused about here (Keep in mind I have a 360):
Will the RB guitar work for GH 2? And will my x-plorer guitar be able to be used for GH 3 / RB?
Also, the double-range feature (10 buttons); will the top 5 buttons work for GH 2/3? I've always wanted a double range, but they are only available for the PS2 version...

Thx,
KillerEgo
