So last night, I started waiting for Rock Band outside of the only Best Buy in Phoenix that was doing a midnight release at 8:30pm (I consider that really early). There were about 16 people in front of me at the time I started waiting with a friend, so I didn't feel alone.
What made the wait sort of fun was the people who would drive by, slow down, roll down their windows and ask what we were waiting for.
The first guy who rolled up, actually asked us "Are you waiting for the Thanksgiving sale?" I'm like "Come on man, Black Friday is a little far away, we're here for Rock Band".
Some more time passes, and more people stop to ask.. so some of us in line decide to start giving them some funny and false information
Driver #2: "What are you standing in line for?"
Answer: "Black Friday"
Their jaw drops...
Driver #3: "What are you standing in line for?"
Answer: "American Idol"
Driver #4: "What are you standing in line for?"
Answer: "They got some Wii's in stock for tomorrow morning"
Walk-up Guy #1: "What are you standing in line for?"
Answer: "Waiting to apply for a job"
Cop #1: "What are you standing in line for?"
Answer: "Rock Band, sir" (he got the first honest answer, haha)
Best Buy Guy: (shouting) "Who here is here for the PS3 version?"
Answer: "..."
Anyway, the Best Buy had 56 XBox360 Bundles and (I believe) 20 PS3 Bundles.. and I am pretty sure they sold out of the 360 bundles with just the people waiting in line. They would let you buy two bundles, but you needed two different forms of payment for it to happen. I don't recall anyone actually buying two though.

Sounds fun, the waiting to apply for a job was probably the best one.
Nothing cool happened at our line, just about six police cars sped by chasing after someone on the run. Other than that it was cold and boring. Love the game though :)

nice, haha. My BB got 50 Xbox360 and 12 PS3. This wasn't midnight launch though. We only had about 7 people waiting when the store opened.

I was at the Best Buy in Bellevue, WA (just east of Seattle), and we had a BLAST!
The guys just in front of us in line brought a TV, a copy of Rock Band that Wal-Mart had sold earlier in the day and a HUGE pop-up tent. We spent the 5 hours waiting in line by playing Rock Band!! We had an enormous crowd around the tent, and even the employees came out to take a peek at what we were doing.
It was -so- much fun. :D

It was a stroke of genius. Big Red was preparing to put the monitor on a cardboard box when one of the guys shouted, "WAIT..." then ran off into the parking lot. A minute later he ran back with the shopping cart. It ended up fitting perfectly. :D

Hey I was there too. Number 2 in line...and about the only person there for a PS3 version...
Which I am now regretting after finding out this AM that my GH3 guitar wont work.
And, the funniest thing was the two drunk guys (one of which was in a green sweat suit with loafers and no socks) walking up to the door, looking in, and asking if it was open.

Our #1 in line was a guy who drove down from Vancouver BC. He was in line for HOURS before we showed up. *laugh* Nice guy too, great singing voice.
The guy who impressed me most was the violin player who sat down at the drums for the first time last night & rocked it out on Hard like it was easy.

I was at the Watertown, MA (just west of Boston/Cambridge- The home of Harmonix) Best Buy last night. I got there around 9:30 and was maybe the 20th person on line in the freezing cold (although I was a lot more prepared than most) We were all just hanging out, whatever, and then I noticed this guy walking down the line with 3 boxes of Dunkin Donuts. Score! So I grabbed one and then later walked up to him to give him a Rock Band guitar pic (I got from the RB tour) as thanks. It turns out he was a Harmonix employee coming down to hang out with us as we waited for their game! As the night went on a bunch more of them came down including the mighty HMXMoss (bearded developer) *I'm so sorry I can't remember the rest of your names right now*
They were all really cool and allowed us to gush on them and ask them a bunch of questions about the game. As it turns out, most of them have heard of me personally!
You see a couple of months ago I visited Harmonix studios when it was still a bit chaotic because they recently moved into that new facility. I brought my guitars to show off and asked if I could be a playtester. I apparently wasn't really supposed to be there so after playing one song (wetting myself in disbelief in the process), I was apologeticaly asked to leave. I lit my guitar on fire one last time (http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7798) and walked away crying (on the inside).
They were all like ohhhh, so you're the guy who snuck in and lit his guitar on fire!! You're the reason why we have to check IDs now!:o
They were all really nice and they continued to hang out, talk about the game, and hand out donuts, hot chocolate and RB stickers. After I got my game at midnight I thanked them all one last time and sped away to try it out at home. I played until 3am and briefly held the #10 spot for Orange Crush (I'm sure I'm like 1000th place by now)
Good times
edit: I forgot while waiting on line a bunch of cars drove by and asked what we were all waiting for. We told them "Rock Band" and they asked us which one!!

I drove from Toronto to the Best Buy in Amherst near Niagara Falls. One of the Best Buy EMPLOYEES was coming in for his morning shift, looked at us and said "you're all waiting for Black Friday already?!" Then started shaking his head in disgust as he went to work. I guess he doesn't work in the games dept lol.

Easiest Midnight Purchase Ever!
I have done a few midnight purchases over the years. Some harder than others (the 360 console). Monday night I worked until midnight and figured why not stop by Best Buy on the way home. Turns out they had a voucher system in place for the line and sent people home after they handed out the 100 or so vouchers (NYC). I stroll up to the store at about 12:20 and notice the doors are locked and closed, but plenty of people were walking out with their big box. So I walked in after one of them, walked to the back of the in store line, and 10 minutes later I walked away happy.
