View Full Version : Problem with Star Power (Overdrive...same thing)

I've already read the posts about people having problems with their strum bar...which I fortunately have not encountered yet....but I have a different problem. I'm having a hell of a time getting my star power to activate and practically have to throw my guitar in the air forcefully to get it to activate, and even then it doesn't always activate. I've already tried unplugging and plugging the guitar back in with no luck. Anyone else having this problem or know how to correct it?

Every new guitar controller I've used takes getting used to for SP/Overdrive activation. I've found some Strats require you to put the neck completely horizontal first.

Otherwise: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/rockband.php

You can hit the Back button to deploy overdrive.

Man, im hoping this is somewhat true. Star Power has always activated way too easily for my liking, sometime i wanna rock out without wasting my star power.

Well, seeing as how I've literally put the neck of the guitar towards the moon, picked the guitar up over my head, and even tried shaking violently (the guitar, not myself...although I came close when I thought about how much I paid for the guitar and it wasn't working) without any result...I think I may have to resort to the link. Unless somebody has a fix or a reason. :)

My first SG took a lot of shaking to start too. Give it a few days/weeks, and if you still don't like it, get a new one. Until then, use the select button.

The default position you start holding it in at the beginning of the song is your starting point. Thus, if you hold it too close to vertical when you start, you're gonna get some bad results.

I know what you mean, I activate star power GH way too easy and it activates when im just playing and dont wwant to turn it on. This is good not bad.

I have the same problem- as well as the fact that my guitar is only intermittently recognized.

Yeah I was just thinking "This is a bad thing?"

Lemme just clarify something....not aimed at Xzyliac...but just in general to this thead....I am not a noob. I've been playing Guitar Hero since the first one came out, so I am familiar with how to play. Not flaming anyone, and I appreciate all of the posts, but just wanted to clarify that for future posts.

Onto Xzyliac...it's a bad thing when it's almost impossible to activate overdrive at all, and if I do get it to activate, I almost always kill my multiplier because I'm too busy moving the guitar up, down, left, right, shaking it, putting it behind my head, under the couch, on top of the fireplace.

Yeah you sound pretty knowledgable (I mean he did correct himself saying it was Overdrive after all).

Well I guess flailing could be a problem :p Wish I knew I could help you bud. Hang tight and wait for the Strat update perhaps?

Did you try hopping on your left foot? I have had to do this on GH, but it will only work if you are wearing only a shoe on your right foot and shoe + sock on the left foot. Another time I had to make my wife stand on her head in a bugs bunny outfit exactly 39" from my xbox(not tv(very important)).

QFT. I can understand people joining to ask/complain about issues with their new purchase, but joining in order to taunt someone who joined for that reason? My head is a'splode.

Is this good or bad? I would say this indicates that it is a good day for "everything". I like to make a first impression. Did that do it? That was definitely not meant to taunt anyone. But, it strikes me as funny as to what people have issues with. I have never had any problem with anything for my xbox. Well, except I cannot get my GTA IV disc to read(now that's funny, I don't care who you are). Any suggestions. :D On a side note. Do not have RB yet(probably will not see until xmas). But a friend is supposed to go by BB on his way home so I should be rockin' in mere hours. I am too old to be this excited about video games. ROCK ON WHOOOOOO!!!!!
wait...people here do have a sense of humor right???
apparently that's not the case at scorehero

I have to flail this new guitar like I am choking a puppy and it still won't always work. Hopefully this will be an easy patch-like fix since the last 3 times I have gone to ea support/rockband it has been down.

Ok, I feel better now....at least I'm not the only one

I have the same problem. I think I came up with a solution though: Before you raise your axe, point it down, then up. That seemed to work most of the time. However, I seem to have a schizo guitar. Sometimes overdrive activates all on it's own. Ugh....

At least you're not chokin the chicken

I had a lot of trouble with overdrive earlier today, having to shake it all over the place and losing whole strings of notes because of it... I finally just stood the guitar up on my leg and kept playing, instead of just flinging it up and back down quickly... seems to work every time now. My husband wasn't having such luck, tho... dunno what to say.

I did get the WORST fit of giggles reading the descriptions in this thread, though! :D

(And, it doesn't matter that I can hit overdrive when I want to, because Bluvox has decided I have to be the drummer :p )
