n00b question I know but here's why I'm asking.

Terc from YouTube (you know that guy who played, like, every GH song before release and made videos) says he only got the standalone RB game when we he went and picked up Rock Band. Naturally he has all the guitar songs up.

But at 3:49 he's goofing with the effects.

What does that mean, it was done in a patch? That would be great if the non-strat controllers got this ability... Since I'll be using a LP come Christmas...

No it means the youtube video was added on the 20th, which likely means he had access to a strat.
