Exactly. Those two words would undoubtedly sell more than a "Band Hero" would.

Those two words would sell just about anything.

Sting? Mitch Mitchels (Sp?)? Portnoy (sp again?)? Dream Theater's bassist (name escapes me atm)? Burton (if its him in the song they have, havent checked what song it is in a while)?

Thats just off the top of my head from the song list i saw about half a month or so back too...

ME and my friends refuse to call it Guitar Hero World Tour.

Instead, we call it Guitar Hero With Drums And A Mic! That is its official name.

Yes. I know this may shock you, but Activision is a stock owned company that is looking to make a profit. They are not a non-profit organization, no matter what you hear. You know who else is looking to make money?

EA
MTV
Harmonix

I love that Activision gets all this talk on here for wanting to make money while a $300 drum set is released for Rock band 2 and MTV is supposedly considering making a game show out of the RB

I'm sorry if I offended you for some reason, but my post was correct. The reason Activision is sticking with the GH name is because, get this, they want the MONEY. Of course Harmonix wants money too. I never denied this. Nor did I put Harmonix up on a pedistal. Although you make it sound like I did.

In fact, I completely 100% agree with your rant. Except for the part that was directed at me.

Because they were dumb to add instruments now and the 'World Tour' thing in the back of GH is completing the name. But it is still stupid and if they wanted to have drums and vocals on,they should have thought of it first.

You are right and I'm sorry. I did not intend to direct it at you directly, but at the peeps on here who act like Activision is evil for wanting to turn a profit. I read your post with that thought already in my head and it tainted your meaning in my mind.

Again, I apologize. You didn't offend me, I just get annoyed with hypocrisy and in my annoyed state I took it out on the wrong person

By that logic Konami should be the only one with a band game. They were first.

But that would be no fun.

Being mad at them for "ripping off" is pretty silly. There is more than one racing or fighting game too, imagine that.

I think a better question is ....why "World Tour". That doesn't really reference a full band.

No, it's cool. I see where you're coming from and can understand why you got angry. Lol, I'm sorry for making Activision seem like money whores.

It's nice to see somebody on the internets who actually apologises instead of trying to start more pointless arguments. Thanks for being mature about it.

Who knows. I'm guessing they're referencing how the campaign is played.

Or maybe they just wanted to get away from the standard "Tile: number" name. Final fantasy should probably do the same =p.

you mean like how harmonix built off of the success of the konami music game craze in japan and brought it over to the states? if they only could have called it "rock freaks", but I guess they were (too) dumb to do that....

If you don't get it, let me spell it out for you. not all great games are the first of their kind, or the most innovative. before shooting off your stupid lip about someone's company, make sure the one you are defending isn't guilty of the same thing, making you an uninformed hypocrite.

Probably. Just thought it was a weird choice. Doesn't really tell you much about the main addition to the gameplay being a full band.

My hope is that in Guitar Villain you play as Cold Slither, the band formed by Zartan and his crew in the GI Joe cartoon who played heavy metal that hypnotized teens into supporting Cobra

Except Konami SUCKS at making music games, and the entire genre would have gone absolutely nowhere if it hadn't been saved by Harmonix.

Tried playing a 'next-gen' version of DDR? Flat out laughable...and this is AFTER being shown how to do things right by Harmonix. Konami is pathetic.

never liked ddr...... in any case, konami started it all is my point, and no matter how bad the games are they are ridiculously popular in japan. so the point stands, HMX would not have a popular music game franchise if not for the innovation of konami. therefore, to blast activision for building on the successful platform that is rock band is asinine.

DethBoxx
09-26-2008, 02:01 AM
I've been making music games as long as Konami has...does that mean I started it all too? Doesn't really matter who came up with an obvious idea, it's the execution and follow thru that matters. HMX is the clear winner there.

Not saying Konami didn't contribute anything at all...but the genre was going nowhere fast through their efforts.

I basically agree with you there actually. It's all about the execution, we will see how they did with GHWT. Actually I will be seeing in a matter of hours...

What I mostly disagree with is you referring to Harmonix as idiots.

yeah, actually, it would.

the music game genre becoming popular was largely due to konami's effort. it failed to gather a following outside of japan not because they were bad games, but because they kept their roots in the arcade, which is a failed market here in the US.

DethBoxx
09-26-2008, 02:27 AM
Well it's subjective as to whether their games were bad or good so we can just leave it at that. I will say that I wasn't impressed by very many music games other than Parappa before I saw GH1. I really think Harmonix brought a lot of gameplay innovation to the table personally.

I disagree.

Back before GH:WT was announced, how many posts were there here when music from band X was coming out and people were all "That would be SO much better on Rock Band because GH is guitar only". They had to do this, they couldn't stay "just" a guitar game any more with RB on the market.

sillystou
09-26-2008, 08:42 AM
Yes, I know. If they would've kept it guitar only, they would've lost the music genre game war for sure. I only talking about the name for the game. It was inevitable for them to create a full-band game. It's just good marketing.

HiAperture

Brand Recognition, plain and simple, they would have to be idiots to not put the guitar hero name on it.

nicko68

You have to remember that most people aren't like us, reading forums dedicated to RB and GH, and understanding all the companies involved. Had Activision not used the name Guitar Hero, people would not have known it was from the same company who made Guitar Hero III (which the general public thinks are the same people who made Guitar Hero II).

Steal Rock Band's concept? Welcome to big business! Can you buy just one single hockey game? Racing game? FPS? I don't think so.

GH had to evolve, otherwise it would have died. If you want to stick to just guitar, just buy the guitar. In fact, Activision was sensitive to this by offering a guitar only bundle.
