Activating Overdrive?

Am I reading right that you can only activate overdrive at certain times during song? Can you use overdrive in single player? How far back do you bring the guitar to do so?

I don't think i was able to do it when i first tried, any ideas?

on drums and vox, yes. if you have enough energy phrases banked, then in "fill spots" then you have the opportunity to activate it, it's the same on drums and vox. Guitar and bass is still "tilt to rawk" action like oldschool.
