I currently have GH3 and I'm considering trading in my copy of GH3 for RB. Now that people have had a chance to play RB that also have GH3 I would like to know what you think. Is RB better? Is it the same game, just a different name? Obviously RB has far better DL Content (for now anyways). Opinions please.

I think Rockband is better. The guitar may not be quite as hard number of notes wise. But the timing window has shrunk alot! So that makes it so you can not play as sloppy.
As well... I am guessing some DLC will have some hard Guitar Parts down the line as well.
Plus you get drums and a mic too.
The solo play is basically like guitar hero 2 solo play. And multiplayer is amazing!
This game in my opinion is much much better than GH3!

In the case of teh PS3, RB is far above GH3, even if you only take into account ONLY the guitar part of Rock Band. GH3 does NOT play correctly on PS3. The wireless sucks.
The RB guitar, on the other hand, plays with the same accuracy as the wired GH2 guitars.
add drums, vox, and a couple of friends, and you have a really good time.

are we talking about the guitar portion here? I'm halfway thru the solo tour and i gotta chime in with everyone else when i say its pretty boring. I think its a payoff scenario, I had One to look forward too in GH3 so i plodded thru what was also an otherwise boring single player situation but the end justified the means.

Dude, I've literally played 3 songs on RB (Drums on Say it ain't so, Singing In Bloom, and playing Guitar on Maps with Sora over Live while he drummed), and I'm pretty sure I'm never playing GH3 again.

There is only one case in which GH3 is better than RB: If you're a non-musician gamer who cares more about racking up a high score than about playing music, and doesn't want to sing, play drums, or have friends. This describes far too much of the XBL population, but in any other case, RB is the better game (even on solo guitar tour).
Oh, and:

You have Green Grass & High Tides to look forward to here, if you're looking for the payoff. Or just go download the Metallica pack, if you lack patience. Rock Band has something for everyone!
I agree that both GH3 and RB are, for top caliber guitar players, pretty easy until the late tiers in solo mode. The difference is that RB is still fun to play even when it's easy, because of the stellar graphics and realistic notecharts.

I decided against trading in gh3 for rock band and i'm regretting it now. it's ridiculous how much better rock band is.

Rb > Gh
I don't disagree, but here's how I would put it.
RB
GHIII
They are clearly not on the same 'level'.
RB is more than a game, hence the $170 price.
