I have the old-style headsets with the molded connector and even using the retaining clips which come with the game, the little plug isn't set completely into the connector. I can hear people through the headset, but can't talk, or sometimes it just plays static constantly through the mic pissing off everybody else in the room.
I'm tempted to buy a new headset, but has anybody had any luck getting the old headsets to work through the drum controller?

I just tried the headset through the guitar mic input, so I know it's not the drumset controller which is broken, and my headset works just fine in Halo 3... so it's definitely the retaining clip and headset adaptor... : (
Guess I have to buy a new headset or maybe even that wireless headset one.

Ooooo.... I have that headset as well.... Thanks for letting us know about the retaining clip and it not workign right, gives me the excuse I've been wanting to get the wife to let me buy the wireless one.

Try as I may and try as I might, I can't seem to get this damned headset clip working right!
Well back to rockin'... I just miss out on all of the banter which is half the fun.

Don't know if you have solved your problem yet, but I had a hell of a time with the headset, and so did one of my friends. What you have to do is really force the Rock Band adapter into the headset. It should be all the way over the jack when you have it on correctly, and there shouldn't be any piece of the jack showing. It's going to feel like you're going to break the headset or jack, but you're not....you just gotta use some force. Hope this helps!

best way to test your mic is to make a voice mail message to someone on your friends list. you don't have to send it just replay it to see if you hear yourself. If you can hear your message then it something to do with the netcode of the game.

Yeah, I did that and made sure to get that last little nub beyond the clip adaptor. Also, I went even further to bend the two prongs of the clip adaptor so that they push "harder"... still no workie. : (

I'm having the same problem with the wired headset and drums. All I get is annoying static, even though the jack is really, really pushed into the adapter...

I don't think it's the drums' fault as the guitar gives the same problem using the adaptor clip. Sucks that I'm going to have to buy a new headset just to fix it.

Before you buy a new headset, go to Radio Shack and try a different extension chord than the RB one...it might be better...I'm going to try this hopefully this weekend and see if it gets better.

Yeah, I getting really pissed. THE GAME I've been waiting for for a year and everything is crap; the guitar down strum doesn't work and even the other one I have works, but you mess up on the easiest parts when playing, and the drums and mic I thought were the most perfected in the box but, nope, 'cause my headset jack on the drums sucks a$$. I have two drum kits, I tested all 4 adapters that I got on each drum kit and still nothin'!!!! Some guy tried to talk to me earlier today on LIVE and he was gettin' pissed that I couldn't talk to him a such. I don't even hear anything outta my headset, just the TV and I cannot talk. Do you guys really think it's just the adapter or could it be something else? Also, does anyone have any kind of solution other than getting a new headset to my problem, or should I say, a lot of peoples problems?

I can't find a cheap 2.5mm extension cable so I'm stuck with NO voice communication when I'm playing guitar or drum. This sucks.

Sounds like my drum controller. The jack just doesn't work. I have a plantronics headset and I've tried the stock one that came with my elite and the adapter, neither work. The plug is buried to the hilt in the controller, and still I can hear other people, but they can't hear me (or worse hear themselves talking).
Since it seems I'm not the only one, I'm going to go look at it, maybe it's just defective.
down-strum on my guitar also broke in about a day. I found it wasn't a huge deal, as I prefered the strum bar on the GH guitars anyway (even though the RB buttons were superior)
That said, it's still the best game ever.

the headset isnt the problem. you have 1 of two issues.
1) The adapter cord that comes with the game are of varying quality. Some work, some dont. the game comes with 2. The first one I used didnt work, then I switched to the 2nd one and it worked. Try that first. Also, the plastic clip is not necessary for the headset to work. Just make sure you have the plug inserted as far in to the adapter cable as possible. Push extremely hard to make sure it is in as far as it will go.
2) The plug on the drums for the headset adpater may be faulty/broken. I had this issue on my first set of drums. The plug didnt work but it worked fine when I plugged in to the guitar.
Most likely its the adapter cord. Switch to the other one and try that. If that doesnt work and you know that your headset works its most likely the drums.

I ended up just splurging on a wireless headset because of this same issue. Everytime I had my wired headset plugged in, everyone else in the game complained about the static, saying I need to turn my TV down (even when it was muted). Why couldn't they just have put a normal 360 headset connector like every other 360 controller?
