I really think these guitars will last forever if you play them like a real guitar - maybe even using a pick.
Now, to me, the GH3 guitar is "broken". Everything registers double strums when I play with my picking style. I posted in thier forums "Guitar broken" and no one else had any issues.
The ROCK BAND guitar is the TOOOOOOOTAL OPPISITE! The strum bar is soft and VERY sensitive. The SLIGHTEST flick at the end of the bar will register. So my advice is play with a pick, or LIKE a pick - which will be a big adjustment for some. But this game is about realism, and I swear this controller feels more real than ANY one Ive played (and Ive played real guitar for 10 years).
Just adjust - it will actually make you a better REAL guitarist, and will make your controller last longer.

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but I'll say it anyway. I really should not have to accomodate my playing style to insure the guitar does not break within several hours. The other guitars work just fine playing sans pick, slamming the strum bar, and I expect the same for this guitar.

I agree with you - but my point was that I had to adjust my style to play GH3. That guitar is DESIGNED to slam on, and I don't. So it didnt break, but I couldnt play.
I just think the Rock band guitar isn't designed for the slam style of play, and the others are, so use the one that best suits you.

meh I always flicked with my thumb which seems likely to bee less stressful on teh strum bar. Either way I know it will get replaced if it needs it.

::shrug:: I used to be able to slam the keys while typing on my Apple II and C-64 way back when and they never broke down. Should I be pissed when I slam the keys on the modern day keyboards and they break because they just can't take the same abuse? Things change.....

I suggested the same thing a couple weeks ago after trying out the guitar at a demo station, but I agree with mysteryman.
I don't want to change the way i have to play the game. I don't play games of RockBand's nature so that i can feel like i'm playing a real instrument, i play them because i enjoy interacting with music i enjoy. If a Cowbell Hero was released and i could ring a cowbell to the tune of Crossroads i would play it.
I'm not interested in playing a real instrument, hell i used to play guitar hero just using the regular playstation controller. What is unfortunate about the RockBand guitar is that it seems to break the way in which i found myself enjoying the interaction produced by this particular series of games.

What's annoying is that there's no guidance in the manual about how to use the strum bar or any warnings as to its fragility. Are you supposed to pluck it with a thumb? Are you supposed to grab it between thumb and index finger and wiggle it up and down? Are you supposed to use a pick? Picking is actually very responsive, so that's what I use - though I can't imagine that's what they intended everyone to do, since it didn't even come with a pick. Breaking strum bars seems to be sadly common, though, so all you can do is either be gentle as a workaround, slam away and break it, or not buy the game.

man I'm SUPER glad to hear it rocks with a pick, as I played GH1 and GH2 and GH80's all with a pick then found out I had to "modify" my guitars to play GH3 with a pick because of the double-strum registers...
