As of right now, there are 1,286 e-Bay auctions for the Rock Band bundle. 414 (http://tinyurl.com/yvovht) of them are for the PS3 version, and 872 (http://tinyurl.com/32b6mp) are for the 360 version.
Once EA went public with the shortage, I knew this would happen. Seriously though, I'm all for making money and capitalism is great and all, but this is just ridiculous. And this isn't even taking into account the listings on Craigslist or other auction sites.
I know there's nothing that can be done that an increase in supply won't take care of down the line, but still, this sucks for those unfortunate enough to be unable to find the game. The only redeeming factor is that the majority of these auctions have no bids on them, but I'm sure that'll change once word gets out that all stores have been sold out.
Interesting note: In the time it took me to type this post up, about 7 minutes, the number of auctions went up by 19. Insane.

I know. I wish they would have kept their mouths shut about it. They would have sold regardless of they "hype" they created.
I saw to Amazon women (not from the moon) grabbing one of each version last night. They were so white trash it wasn't even funny and I knew where those were going...Ebay.
Pisses me off as I know the Best Buy Launch last night (which I got the shaft) was sold out, and this morning was nuts. Fortunately I have one and will be playing the crap out of it.
It's only going to get worse as we approach the holidays.
Cheers to the real ones who bought the game to jam. I salute you. :D

Can anyone comment on the stock BB has? My friend's dad lives in Kent, Ohio and said he's going to look for it and buy one for me. He comes by to visit my friend every week so I can just pay him when he comes here.

Well, the news of stock still in supply is good, as it means that most of the people on e-Bay trying to gouge will be lucky to break even, taking into account e-Bay's fees and what-not.

Disgusting. The only way it will stop is if people don't buy from them. That would never happen though.
It just sickens me that some people will take advantage like that. I know there are a couple of people here who were talking about doing the same thing, I wonder if they ended up doing so.

I have to wonder if this anticipated "shortage" is really just a bunch of crap - totally manufactured to increase the hype.
Not that I don't wish Hmx the best, of course, but wouldn't it be embarassing if, after all the jibber-jabber, demand wasn't nearly as high as expected, and stores were amply able to keep shelves stocked?
I live in a relatively affluent community, where presumably there are loads of households with the disposable income to blow on something like this, and all the kids are off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
I am also lucky enough to work near a BB, and they cautioned me yesterday to get to the store super-early 'cause there was going to be a big line outside. So I swung by this morning about 10 minutes before they opened, and there were, like, 6 people in line ahead of me. And the two people who came in behind me weren't even there for RB - they were returning a vacuum cleaner. Hardly the stampede I was warned about.
Go figure. I'm sure time will tell the tale.

Obviously I'm aware that this isn't the only reason that some people can't get the game. Just the sheer magnitude of the package and the manufacturing required to ship before Thanksgiving pretty much dictated that there would be shortages. But having 1000+ bundles on e-Bay the day of release isn't helping matters. I don't know how many copies shipped initially, so I don't know what percentage has ended up on e-Bay, but I'd bet it's markedly higher than normal for a newly released game, as is the price they're asking.
And yeah, I know it's all supply and demand, it's just that it sucks is all. I'm not saying these people can't do it. Hell, if I didn't care so much about this game I'd probably do it as well, but it just kinda sucks. I want as many people to have this game in their possession as possible, and if the eBay auctions continue, then it's going to be cost prohibitive (even moreso than it already is) for some people.

Well, I guess the hoarding issue is most distasteful when kids lose out - especially those who scrimped and saved to get this thing on release day and, because of their age, didn't have the luxury of being able to camp outside at midnight or an hour before the stores opened today.
Granted, it's impossible to know if the person who missed out because of one's multiple purchases is a kid or an adult who can and should be able to get over it. But I don't think picking up one extra is that egregious.

In this specific case, for a younger individual who wanted the game that badly, they should have preordered it. Their bad. In fact, the reason I have no problem with something like this is because it was available to preorder. Would I be dissapointed if I didn't get one because joe schmo in front of me bought the last 2 after having talked to him about it and him saying "yeah, im gonna sell one on ebay later"? sure. I would probably rant about it for a little while because it would piss me off but it was my choice to not guarantee my copy and I would eventually be stuck to "learn from my mistakes." Preordering isn't a mystery, everyone knows it is available. I actually took that chance this morning because I didn't preorder it, knowing full well that I possibly wouldn't get it.
It was available to preorder. People (normal adults) have bills and making some extra cash is nice when you're not screwing someone else over as they, again, had the option to preorder it. They didn't, their bad. done and done.

That's a good argument, but take into account that the general public doesn't know about this game to the extent that we do. In fact, for most of the people out there, the demo at Best Buy was the first time they had heard of it, or at the very least played it. At that point, most of the pre-orders were gone, or the stores didn't take pre-orders. So, take little Johnny Snot Nose who doesn't have a job, doesn't have unfettered access to the internet, and doesn't really know about the game. He hears about it from a kid at school, maybe plays the demo, and asks for it from his parents, both of whom have jobs. How are they gonna get it for him? Pre-orders are gone, and there's no way they can camp out to get a copy. In fact, they probably have no idea about the limited supply, as they likely don't have a line on the industry like we do. They might get lucky on their lunch break, but chances are slim. So, what do they do?
Most of the people buying this game in the future are going to be in this position. As the holiday comes on, as more reports of shortages surface, as more people get a chance to play it with their friends and family, more and more people are going to be wanting this game. And they're not gonna be able to get it unless they pay a premium on eBay.

So you'd have no problem scooping up the two or three last copies in the store, knowing there's a ten year old kid behind you, who may not have had the luxury of being able to pre-order - in terms of having the cash or access to a credit card, or even being a seasoned enough online shopper who knows about pre-ordering?
You're fine looking that kid in the eye and telling him "Tough shìt. You should have pre-ordered"?
Sad.

Knowing GameStop opened at 10am, I left my apartment around 9am'ish to head to Target, to see if they had any mic stands (because I have a gift card to use up there) and when I walked in, what do you know, they put out their supply of Rock Band...all 4 of them. Right next to them was a guy on the phone with his friend, asking whether he should buy all 4, and I guess he felt a little embarrassed about it, so he took a few steps away into the aisle, and that's when I made my move and just took one and ran.
I can see both sides of the argument, but really, if you wanted this game that badly, you would have reserved it like the rest of us. The only people I feel bad for are people in Canada and Europe. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing with the second bundle yet, so its just sitting in my room.
And for the people laughing that maybe eBay people will get screwed. Probably not. I'm waiting it out, to see what they're going for in the next day or two, and if it looks too risky, I'll take the bundle back to Target. And what do you know, I lose $0.

I'm from Canada where we are unable to even get the game until late Dec and I just recently came across an ad on my local classifieds site where someone is trying to sell a bundle for 400$. That's just nuts. It bothers me when people do stuff like this. I bet that there was someone waiting in line for buy this game only to not be able to get one cause the bastard in front of him bought a second copy to sell online for profit. Whenever I see this all I can think of is the person who got screwed out of getting his copy so someone greedy can make a few bucks.
Now, had this guy been selling it for like 50$ over the retail price I wouldn't have been quite as disgusted with it. I mean if he's going through the trouble to get a copy over here he's entitled to something. But to charge double?! Thats just wrong.

It's not an issue of being able to afford 2. Hell I could use my credit card and buy 10 copies and sell them if I wanted to. The problem is that's it's unethical to do so. Personally I am tired of watching people take advantage of other people like this.

You're also kinda cheapening it by taking something we love, and using it as a means to make a few bucks that you don't deserve because you made no positive contribution to the game. You're just making it that much more expensive for someone else to enjoy a game you supposedly like.
I wish people could be patient enough not to reward those like you.

You make it sound like we're advocating giving out Rock Band to the poor. We're not. But let the people buy them in the stores, at the price that the publishers/retailers set. The people who are selling the games at a marked up price didn't do anything to contribute to the game, why should they get rewarded? They're vultures, preying on the same desire to have the game that they have.
Actually there are probably a lot of people who don't give a crap about Rock Band, but are stocking up just to sell it. It means nothing to them.
In either case, it's totally turning Rock Band into a commodity to be sold to line your pockets. It cheapens it. I don't care if you have little girls to feed, the ends don't justify the means. If money is an issue, don't buy Rock Band at all, save $160, rather than screwing your fellow man.
But then again, everything today is all about "every man for himself, screw everyone else". Society is going to hell.

Yeah, I pre-ordered mine at Gamestop a month ago. They didn't do a midnight launch. I couldn't stand to wait any longer so I went to Wal-Mart at midnight last night and easily got a copy. I could have picked up my copy from gamestop today and sold it on ebay, but I told the guys at Gamestop I'd rather let them make someone's day since the only copies they had were for pre-orders. They were cool about it and put the money back on my credit card. I'm happier knowing that someone probably walked in there thinking they didn't have a chance in hell of getting one, but just asked for the hell of it, and was then pleasantly surprised when they had one extra to sell. I'd feel pretty low, buying extra copies to sell on ebay. Like nick068 said, let people buy them in the store. If you aren't buying Rock Band to play or give as a gift and you don't own a video game store where you will be selling it at retail value, then don't buy it. That is just my opinion.

i dont know how most stores handled sales, but it sounds like best buys had the largest amount of bundles for sale on launch, and they limited purchases to one per household, so i dont understand how people didnt get a fair shot to get one. sure we all have jobs, but that's why there were preorders at amazon, gamestop, walmart, circuit city, etc.
the only people that lose are the ones that only hear about the game from all the lucky ones that are rocking out right now. the word of mouth will drum up more interest, and the supply we all knew would not be able to keep up with demand until at least next year.

Not sure if you guys have done the math, but you have to step back and look at the bigger picture here.
Best Buy has 1400 stores in the U.S., so 1200 copies equates to every Best Buy in the United States getting LESS than one extra copy. Nice try with the conspiracy theory though. The eBayers aren't ruining this one for you, as much as you'd like to believe it. This is NOT why there is a shortage. Stop and think about it. There is a shortage because Rock Band comes with 4 separate components that are probably all made in different factories around the world.
In comparison, when the PS3 launched, Sony had like 400,000 in the US. I think something like 50,000 of them wound up on eBay within 48 hours. Now THAT is cause for a shortage.

I'm sure there were some more in the back though...Your lucky, the BB by my house ordered 56 units for the 360 and 15 for the PS3  Needless to say, I talked with a sales person and he said that the PS3 version sold of within the first 2 hours the store was open. I was about 4 hours to late. :(
