So me and my friends were playing Rock Band 2 and our drummer was wondering what type of wood the drumsticks are made of, since this is the second pair of rock band drumsticks he has gone through.
We were thinking Balsa Wood but we weren't sure because of how easy they break. So if you can find out what exact type thier made out of that would be great.
He has a pair of actual pair of drumsticks that are 14A and they're Pine Wood and he uses those on real drums.

I was under the impression they were your regular old drum sticks. Nothing too weak. Maybe you just hit too hard? :)
EDIT: Helps bump.

I agree with hickory, but sheesh, broke the sticks?!!!?!? I could see breaking sticks just fine on a real set, but while playing Rock Band? I jam hardcore too don't get me wrong, I just can't see myself breaking my sticks. :P Either way I am about to hit the nearest music store for a nice new pair of sticks.

I thought the same thing....until the day rock band 2 came out and I was playing the drum challenge and got the livin on a prayer and snap the tip and about a 5th of the stick came with it, i think its just such a cheap stick and thats why
I got a pair of promark hickory sticks with nylon tips and the difference is night and day

I broke my sticks once. I don't remember what I was playing, but I remember that I hit the rim and snapped the stick. It sucked, but I ended up getting a pair of Vic Firth 5A's and they rock my socks.

mine hit the rim too when they broke...oh well
I have a nice pair of ahead 5A's those alluminum ones but there too heavy I tend to break the pads with them so I retired them (until I have room for a real drumset mwahahahah)

Zildjian also makes some nice sticks. They are hollow part of the way down the middle of them and filled with a rubber dampener from the end of them. I use these on my Roland TD-3 kit....they get better bounce on an electronic type kit than standard Vic Virths or Regal Tips.

I just picked up some nice light ones at my local music store for like $3 when the rock band ones wore out and started splintering at the tips. They seem to do the job well. I think they need to keep the sticks very light though to avoid cracks in the drum heads, which still happen of course.

Yea I can definitely see them breaking at the tip or near that area. Like you said, hes a real drummer and he's so used to the amount of pressure he is able to lay down on those real drums. I can also DEFINITELY see them breaking with rim hits, that stuff can be nasty. Let us know when he breaks that third set! :P
