The PS3 update is now up. The RB songs are there.
HOWEVER
It's $3 per SINGLE song.
$6.49 for the packs wich isn't so bad.
Might as well get the PS2 verision now.
160 MS points comes out to $2.56 by the way.

Microsoft is to blame for the point problem (it's just a stupid system in general they haven't updated to reflect exchange rates ever since it was introduced). I don't know about the PSN problem.

Inherently there shouldn't be a problem because they use real world values (ex. $7.99) as prices. So if its 7.99 USD, it should be either equal or less if you live in Canada.
Thats why its extremely lame that it costs more.

100 MS points = $1.25
1.25 x 1.6 = 2.0
160 MS points = $2
Edit: This assumes you guys are getting ripped off up there on your MS points. 20 dollars for 1600 points, right?

No. Don't blame Sony. Sony doesn't put the prices on DLC, the developers do.
It's really sad.

Is it confirmed that they are 1.99USD on the PSN?
Because if they are and we are paying 50% more for the same content despite the fact that our dollar is worth more...
...That is just BS.

I think you meant we're NOT getting ripped off on them but yea we're getting ripped on those too. $20 = 1400 now,I think so anyway because it used to be 1200 and there's a 2800 card for $40. I used http://www.mspconverter.com/ to convert it.
I forgot the tax on the PSN Downloads since they charge per item so it's really $3.48 per song,at least in the places that that have 14% tax. I do think this is Sony's fault as all the DLC is $1 more though it shouldn't be and in this case at $3 per song...well they should've sorted that out because I doubt many will be buying it.

The PSN does charge per item, but the original cost of the item is not up to Sony if it's third party

I may be wrong here but I don't think Harmonix is in control of DLC pricing. That sounds more like MTV and EA's deal.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for real prices on these 1400 cards. $20 for 1400 when US gets 1600 for $20? Not to mention I don't expect them to change it.

I honestly dont care, I buy the damn points cards. Its the fact that:
a) I cant get the game Ive been looking forawrd to for almost a year
b) I cant even buy the DLC so I can enjoy it when the game comes out

Oh yeah, if you're talking about shipping costs for Canada, do you know how much money EA has? No really, do you?
For DLC, there's a little thing called the internet.

Um correct me if I am wrong (which I probably am) doesn't Canada have a VAT tax as well required to be charged on all products like Europe does? If so that would explain the difference.

Forgot to mention 440 MS points = $7.04
So if you're on PSN and using Canadian you're getting majorly screwed on the individual songs and slightly on the the packs. XBL majorly screwed on the packs and slighty screwed on the individual songs.
How did this end up at the top of the page? Thought I hit reply?

Buy some MS Point Cards online, then you get the advantage of our dollar, and most EBay sellers will simply e-mail you the code and destroy the card, so its instant points, for less.
And to all those without a brain to think: That's Microsoft setting those prices.

I purchased 500 MS point about a week ago for $7.75 Canadian which amounts to:
100MS points = $1.55 CAD
160MS points = $2.48 CAD = $2.52 USD
Although, I'm quite displeased with having to wait an extra month, I still lay the blame on Microsoft for this one.
Now here's hoping my pre-order will actually be filled in December. Who knows? Maybe the MS points issue will be remedied by then.

I've posted on this before (in that massive Canadian *****ing thread prior to launch) buuut:
1) You can't buy live 360 points in US funds because they have locked the market geographically. If you are connecting from Canada you MUST buy Canadian points cards, American point cards will not work for you at all. If you try, you will waste your money to see an error along the lines of "We're sorry but the information you entered is not a valid code for your geographical area".
2) PSN had just in the last month or so changed their pricing to where CDN and USD prices are identical (supposedly). Releasing the Rock Band DLC at a higher CND pricepoint seems kind of like a big money-grab at this point to bend over the importers. Luckily you can get around this by creating a PSN account with US information and paying in US funds if you so wish (it does not scan for your goegraphical location and lock you to a certain currency).
Sooo... ps3'ers change your currency to USD. 360 users grab your ankles!

I think its about time we Canadians deploy our single battleship and steam south to to fire few warning shots past the windows of Harmonix headquarters. :p
Seriously, Rock Band's path to the Great White North has been a PR nightmare....

This is a good idea, but if I purchase some DLC on this new account you suggest I make, will I be able to use it on my other account that is already made?

can't speak for RB specifically, but it works for other things. I have a Japanese account I use to get stuff that's only released on the Japanese PSN (e.g. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue demo) and that works fine on my Canadian account once it's downloaded via the Japanese one.

I wonder if Harmonix told Rush they planned on A$$ Ramming Canada something terrible when they got the rights to their music.
3 dollars a song?!?! is this for xbox 360 as well????? I was planning on buying lots of dl content but now I'm not even sure I want this game anymore. Especialy with all the hardware problems people seem to be having as well.

The GH 3 songs worked on my Japanese account and I dled them on my Canadian one.
360 does things in points and the DLC is not up. It's 160 points in the US. It should still be 160 points here BUT it does cost more then it should. That's due to the way the points are sold. The US gets 1600 points for $20 and only 1200 or 1400 in Canada for $20. In conversion the songs themselves cost $2.56 and the packs $7.04. So it just cost more by circumstance wich applys to all items on XBL.
PSN deals with straight money. Instead of $1.99 and $5.49 they should be and are in the US they're $2.99 and $6.49 (+ tax) but in this case there's no reason at all it should cost more. To get them at the proper price I guess US accounts will have to be made, hope the credit card works and then we'd actually be saving 6-12 cents.

So I guess $3 is the bi-lingual pricing, huh? ;)

I'm f****** pissed at this. It's a joke. 3 dollars a song?! That's the most ******ed thing I've seen since I lived beside a group home. We are nothing to them. Hold on, I have to check if my @$$ is still bleeding from this.
I don't give a s### who runs the DLC but for f***'s sake give us a break. Just because we're not American doesn't mean we're any less of a human being. Whatever the hell happened to equal treatment and equal opportunity?

I don't think the crappy pricing on the Canadian version of the PSN is Harmonix's fault. Look at EVERY piece of downloadable content and you'll notice they are ALL priced $1 more regardless of the price. Considering our dollar has been at or above par for the last how long and the fact that this is all over the internet it's a really a big FU from Sony to all Canadians.
And you can't just go and create a US account and then buy stuff. When you go to purchase something you must input your credit card along with a US billing address. I tried entering my card but with my aunt's billing address (she lives in Florida) and it wouldn't let me do it. It was a Master Card btw.
So far from doing a bit of research I don't know how you can get an american credit card along with a American billing address. I did hear before about some service that you could buy a preset credit card value but I'm not sure what the billing address would be or what the service was for that matter.
I've emailed Sony on this issue (higher prices for Canadians) about a week ago. But they basically told me I had the wrong department. I want to track down whoever is in charge of this because it's really a load of ****.
