question with 360 les paul

Hey im sitting here with my copy of rock band (not the bundle) unopened because the guy at my local gamestop said that the les paul controller can only play bass guitar.. what i was wondering is there functionality for the les paul to play lead guitar in its full functionality in rock band(minus the solo buttons of course)

No it can play lead, just without the effects and without the solo buttons.
