Here are the finalists for the for the "Best of the Rest" of the One Hit Wonders.
Sayburr's One Hit Wonder battle had a lot of awesome songs, but it didn't have room for everything -- and there were some really awesome tunes that didn't make the cut. Plenty I thought to make an great follow up battle. And I think the list of finalists proves the point -- there are some all-time greats, many that haven't gotten the credit they deserve.
So, here we go -- again you can vote for as many as you like.
Carl Perkins, "Blue Suede Shoes," 1956
The original one hit wonder. Carl is a classic, but he will always be associated with this all-time great tune.

The Tornadoes, "Telstar," 1962
From an era where instrumentals were a fixture of the top 40, this is one of the breakthroughs, and with an eerie keyboard sound that's surprisingly contemporary. Really cool tune.

The Chantays, "Pipeline," 1963
This song has become a landmark, largely because of the Ventures' popularity, but this is the original version. Love the figure that opens the song. Just a classic.

Love, "7 and 7 is," 1966
This band deserves more recognition and this song is proof. How far are we from punk in this tune? And psychedelic punk at that. THIS SONG MUST BE IN ROCK BAND!

Blue Cheer, "Summertime Blues," 1968
Unfortunately this vid cuts out the heavy opening to this song -- we catch it again in the middle of the song as a break. This version introduced the world to Heavy Metal and brought Eddie Cochrane's classic back to everyone's attention, provoking many covers after this. But there's nothing quite like this pounding, driving cover of a Rockabilly classic. One of the great covers of all time.

Status Quo, "Pictures of Matchstick Men," 1968
A little know classic from the psychedelic era with a cool guitar intro. This song was a wild card -- one of the most popular non-winners. Personally I was kind of surprised, but lots of people got turned on to this song from the preliminary round and wanted to see it included in the final. Thanks to A21Schizoidman for promoting this song.

The Youngbloods, "Come Together," 1969
Another wild card. Beautiful tune with a gorgeous vocal. And nice guitar work as well. I think this is another great candidate for the game. Definitely one of my favorite songs from the era.

Mott the Hoople, "All the Young Dudes," 1972
Don't think I need to say more. From the opening notes you know what song this is, and you're ready to sing a long. One of Bowie's best songs given a fantastic performance by the Hoople. Vegas has made this song a 2-1 favorite. :D

Big Country, "In a Big Country," 1983
Talk about guitar hooks. Big powerful sound. I give the beat a 100. This was a really refreshing change up from the synth heavy sound of the early 80's.

Tom Cochrane, "Life is a Highway," 1992
Somewhat of a surprise winner, I think, from the last of the preliminary rounds. I thought Rainbow might take the last battle given the leanings of most of the forum crew. Great driving tune.
