I'd really like to see this feature too... Perhaps an "Extra Easy" mode on drums that's Drums w/o the pedal? Even with appropriate diminished scoring for that difficulty level would let my 6 year old (who's monster excited about the drums) play in band. I've tried playing guitar and kick pedal to let him play the drums, but that's not working out too well for me yet.

We're loving RB, and this is a great way to get the little guys excited about music ("Here it goes again" is his new favorite song), but wish we could get a bit of a tweak to make this part of the drums just a little less hard-core as a option.

Thanks!!!

it also helps to keep you foot down on the pedal when you're resting. Just lift it a little and then put it back down to hit the kick notes, rather than keeping it poised up and cramping up your calf.

Yeah you just gotta get used to not lifting your foot and getting used to using those muscles in your calf and then you'll be rockin out on that pedal

yea but its not about the muscles. its about comprehension and motor skills. many MANY people have problems seeing beyond the notes and using the kick pedal. it's like trying to pat your head and rub your tummy with some people and its just ridiculously hard. there is absolutely no need for the kick pedal until you get to hard.

Don't wuss out, you're learning to drum!

It's one of those things you'll just need to get used too. You just need to build up those muscles that you never use in that way.

I would absolutely love that option. I'm not saying I'd never use the pedal again, but the three of us playing today were really having a hard time with it, and it was making BWT mode a chore when one person kept failing at drums, or when we couldn't advance because none of us could play higher than Easy on drums.

I worry about alienating my friends who have never played a rhythm game, yet want to try the drums. They may not want to play again after they see how challenging it is with the pedal. I liken using the pedal to the jump from Medium to Hard, or Hard to Expert. There's only four buttons in Medium, yet five with drums? Seems kind of wrong, if you ask me.

I think the pedal shouldnt be used until Hard IMO. I tried it on Easy and was like WOAH...im getting better but my poor wife was SO excited to play drums just gets super frustraated with it and doesnt feel like playing drums becasue its a chore to her.....

I personally would prefer an option that would let you turn it off in Practice Mode only.

I like it and want to learn how to use it, but I am a little surprised that all five colors were used in easy and medium. I'm sure it seems really hard because I have been playing with the guitar since GH1 came out, but it would be nice to work my way up to using the pedal in either medium of hard.

if we wanted to learn how to play the drums, we wouldve used the 180 bucks towards buying a real drum set. but i agree with the other people...the learning curve on the drums for rock band is wayy too steep.. me and a friend were playing co-op world tour today and you play for so long and then in order to gain new fans you have to increase your difficulty, and after only playing it a couple hours were not good enough to play it on hard...

Hellz, yeah. :D

Learning to drum isn't as easy a thing as some people seem to think it is but after much practice, once you start getting true limb interdependence and nailing tricky beats, drumming is one of the most fun things EVER.

At the very least, us drummers should start getting a little more respect for what we can do, although it'll probably never stop the jokes.

That said, here's my favourite:

How do you know when your drum riser is level?

The drool comes out of both sides of the drummer's mouth.

:D

i'm confused. is the Best Buy demo just that? A demo? Because the drum is set to auto-kick. I assumed there was a mode to set the drum to auto-kick. Maybe if you just unplug the kick pedal it'll do it for you?

thats only for the demo... if im right about that lol In the full version thats out i didnt see any option to have auto kick and i did try unplugging and nothing. I've been trying to use the kick and its hard to get use to, i guess in medium its not that bad but im taking my time to move up. I really do think they should come with a patch though that can enable auto kick though. Everyone i played the demo loved that drums but since they tried with the kick they are little disappointed. I personally would like to have it on sometimes so i can just go crazy and not have to concentrate so much on the kick and kinda of freestyle thats what made the drums so fun during the demo :)

... after only playing it a couple hours were not good enough to play it on hard...

So, if you're saying it's too hard... and the metalheads who want a double-kick pedal are saying it's too easy... then I'm going to guess that Harmonix got the difficulty level just right.

I'm one of those people who has played music for over 20 years but, having a few "non-musical" friends, I can empathize with those people who find the use of a foot pedal difficult. However, if I remember my music class properly, the use of the bass/kick drum is one of the beginning concepts in drumming with a kit and, as such, feel that HMX was right in including it in the earlier levels.

"Easy" is where you learn the fundamentals of the game, no matter what instrument you're playing. Since the kick drum is a fundamental part of drums, it almost has to be represented (in some form) on this setting.

(Personally, I have no illusions -- I'll be starting on Easy with the drums, and cursing/loving every minute of it...)

It just takes practice. Try learning more guitar or play a game like Dance Dance Revolution. Once you get more used to rhythm playing easy mode drums should be...easy.

I would almost have to say the kick should be off in easy then medium was the the current easy level and so on. I'm sure I'll get better with time but the gap from easy to medium is really big! I'm the only person I've played with that can do above 95% or so on easy and when I try medium its just overwhelming. It just seems like too big of a gap. To be able to get 99%s and stuff on easy you should be able to do medium pretty well.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I was playing Tom Sawyer on Expert at the demo stations and dreading when I actually had to use the pedal. I'm all the way to LA on the solo career on Hard mode and I've only been playing the game since 6:00 PM yesterday.

Could not agree more. I love the pedal, even if it is taking a little bit to get used to. Maybe I'm biased because I've played Drummania for a couple years though. /shrug.

I posted earlier on this hoping for some relief on this for some absolute beginners (and youngsters) on this, lowering the barrier to entry on getting started with the drums. In lieu of an "Extra Easy", I think it'd work out pretty great if the penalty to the Band Meter was very very minimal or even zero for missed Kick Pedal notes on Easy. I'd think that would be the easiest to implement, would let rookies get started on the drums ignoring the kick pedal, even though missing kick pedal notes would still break streaks and impact scoring overall, would let people get started w/o it and add it in with an easier learning curve.

Thanks!

That's a little harsh. I think this is a legit complaint. Of course, I used to never be able to handle the orange notes in Guitar Hero and now I'm sight reading my way through songs on Expert.

When I want to rock out, I play in practice mode and just ignore the kick. Then, I go back to easy and learn how to play with the pedal.

Practice mode is your friend. Just be patient and you'll eventually get it.
