Carbon/Silicon is a band that was started in 2002 by Tony James(Generation X) and Mick Jones (The Clash). Their songs are really good but not very well known, so check some of these out and leave some comments.

Huge recent Clash fan here. I've just completed my Clash collection and am in the final stages of absorbing it all (still familiarizing myself with Super Black Market Clash and some of the more obscure tracks from Sandanista!). Before I dive into Cut the Crap, I was planning on getting some Big Audio Dynamite and Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.
I was not familiar with this Mick Jones project, but thanks for the tip-off! Any reccomendations on where to start for a relatively new Clash fan who is interested in other projects from the principal members?

haha, i am also a relatively new Clash fan (since Feb?) but just to warn you, Cut The Crap isn't done with Mick Jones and Topper Headon, but you should check out The Good The Bad and The Queen which consists of Paul Simonon(Clash bassist), Damon(guy from Blur and Gorrilaz) and the Verve guitarist.
I bought each bands album (they each have one) and love them both. I haven't gotten any BAD cds but I had the greatest hits on Itunes before I had even heard of The Clash and I also need to buy sume Mescaleros CDs. But if your a hardcore fan like me, I bought a couple of books on Joe Strummer (Joe Strummer and The Legend of The Clash, and Redemption Song: The Ballad of Joe Strummer) which are great reads and Ive learned so much more about the band.
Make sure you check out the songs This Is Radio Clash and Bankrobber because they aren't on any of the Clash's albums.

Oh, I almost forgot, before joining The Clash, Joe was in a band called the 101ers and they were pub rock. They have one album that i think is called elgin street breakdown (dont quote me on that, if im wrong, wikipedia has the right answer).
Mick Jones was also in a band called London SS but I haven't been able to find any cds by them.
Fun Fact: the song "I'm So Bored With The USA" originated as a London SS song written by Mick that was called I'm So Bored With You but when Joe heard it the 1st time, he immediatley changed the lyrics to I'm So Bored With The USA
EDIT: Paul was also in a group called Havana 3am who only had one album and I wanna get but is probably really hard to get, they have a vid on youtube, reach the rock, which I have grown to like

If you are gonna get some of the Mescaleros, get Streetcore, I bought it today and it is AWESOME! I never thought borders of all places would have it but lucky me they had one copy (but no BAD sadly)

I am a huge Clash Fan (shirt, dvd's, cd's, RB tracks..everything pretty much)
I listened to C/S a little while ago. it's pretty good, but I find it lacks intensity. I'd still probably buy it though
But even better FIRST THREE CLASH ALBUMS FULL ALBUM DLC

That would be the most epic release EVER, but they need to at least release one album, London Calling or The Clash would both sell very well, Give Em Enough Rope isn't too popular but Tommy Gun is an amazing song (same with Safe European Home, Stay Free and English Civil War). But what they better not do is release Sandinista!(great album, bad fit for rock band) or Cut The Crap (for obvious reasons) because that would piss me off

Cut the crap is NOT a Clash record.
It's really a Strummer solo record

Paul was also on board but it was really a Bernie Rhoads(sp?) record because he basically mixed all the songs and released them while Joe was in Spain on vacation and had no idea what happened. (Joe even hates the album, although he admits that This is England is the last great Clash song) This is England is probably the only good song on it, the others ones are just mediocre.

Is Cut the Crap even really a Strummer solo album? I thought that he laid down some vocal tracks and rough guitar parts and the producer finished it with studio musicians while Strummer was off in the mountains of Spain. What about Combat Rock? I know it isn't that well loved (though it probably dodges a lot of scorn because Cut the Crap takes the bad rap), but it was their most successful record.
My order would be:
1. London Calling
2. The Clash
3. Give 'em Enough Rope
4. Sandanista!
5. Combat Rock

It is a "Clash" album only by name. Bernie Roades was just a ******ed guy that wanted the glory for himself. Combat Rock isn't looked down at as much b/c it for one, still had all 4 members, and 2, contained their two biggest hits in America.
My order would be:
London Calling
The Clash
Give 'Em Enough Rope
Sandanista!
Combat Rock
haha, thats the same as yours (I'm not copying btw)
And only 4 more days till The Clash: Live at Shea Stadium! can't wait
Have you read any books about The Clash? I've read one and I'm halfway through another

I actually haven't read any of the books on The Clash. I did just get the Live Revolution Rock DVD and the Westway to the World DVD is coming in the mail in a few days. I wonder if there is any chance that the Live at Shea Stadium album will have a Rock Band DLC tie-in? One can always hope. I think I'll start a poll thread to determine the best Clash album for DLC in an effort to keep their visibility up on these boards.

I doubt it has a DLC tie in. But I have the Live Revolution Rock which I love and also Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten(I've watched half of it, its four hours long but very interesting. The 1st book I read was Joe Strummer and The Legend which was very good and very enlightening about the Clash and Joe. Right now I'm reading Redemption Song: The Ballad of Joe Strummer which is very good as well. If your interested, Barnes and Noble has those books plus one more which I will read after I'm done with this one.

I think if anything they'll release a Clash 3-pack though, which is OK, but a real record would be really nice.

They better, I think they might have one song in the 20 free songs, my guess would be its London Calling followed by the release of a full album in spring of next year.

Yeah, if they could work a song from London Calling into the free 20, then we'd only have 16 tracks left, just like BSSM, which could lead to a nice, even $20 price point. My fingers are crossed so hard, they might just get stuck that way.

17 songs btw, (19-2)
But I won't complain about paying those 20 bucks.
Do you play on the 360? If you do whats your gamertag?

I've been looking a bit more into these guys lately, and I must say I'm pretty intrigued. I bought their one retail album, but their website says they have released a mountain of material for free. Unfortunately, not much of it is still up on the website. I want to get it, but I don't want to resort to putting nefarious file-sharing programs on my computer. Does anyone know a legit way to get ahold of this stuff?

I read that they took some of their free stuff down, I haven't really tried looking for it...I hope I get to see these guys in concert someday, if I do, I'm gonna wait for several hours to try and get a chance of meeting Mick

If you ever do get a chance to meet Mick, you have to be sure to ask him what he thinks of Rock Band and if any further Clash/BAD/Carbon songs will be in the game. Then tell him that you've been rallying for London Calling as a full album.
I don't know; I'd barely know what to say if I met Mick or Joe (while he was still alive), but I certainly wouldn't pass up the opportunity. Unfortunately, I don't think Carbon/Silicon will be playing in Kansas any time soon.

I was thinking about what I would do if I got the chance to meet Mick, I was nervous and excited just thinking about it. I think if he toured the States (which I think they have done) he would most likely come to Dallas. Sometimes I wish I lived in London so I could be around all these amazing rockers.
I would also like to see The Good The Bad And The Queen in concert. I would also wait afterwards to try and talk to Paul who is my favorite bassist who I look up to (as I am a bassist).
I would def talk to them about Rock Band but God, I would be shaking so much when I would be talking to them
I wish I could've gotten a chance to meet Joe. He died when I was 11 and back then I wasn't really into the same music I am now (I try not to think of how I could even of listened to some of that stuff) so I hadn't ever heard of Joe or The Clash. Its just one reason why it sucks growing up in the 90s and 00s music-wise b/c all the good bands of the 80s and 70s are all broken up or dead.

I actually think it is exactly the sort of song the world needs right now, lyrically. It's kind of refreshing to put that on in the morning after hearing about stock market plunges, terrorism and wars in the middle east. It just kind of reinforces that you're in control of your life and if you make the right choices and don't let things that are out of your control effect you, you'll be all right. Now it's just a matter of everyone doing that collectively.

I think it is very interesting how Mick Jones' vocal sytle has changed over the years. His range has definitely dropped and he has adopted a more monotone, almost conversational/spoken word vocal style with very direct political lyrics.
It's nice to see him taking a more political approach again, but I really miss the subtlety and wit of Joe Strummer's lyrics. Strummer really needed Jones' songwriting abilities until he found the Mescaleros/tightened his own songwriting and Mick Jones really needed Strummer as a lyricist/charismatic frontman. Together, they were more than the sum of their parts (individually, they were still brilliant, but they certainly enhanced each other).
Don't get me wrong, though; I do love Carbon/Silicon and really hope we see them in Rock Band some day.

Yea, they needed each other to make sure if there was a flaw in the lyric, the other would point it out and then they would make it perfect.
You are right, Mick's voice certainly has changed, its still good though.

If I remember correctly, the article I read listed the upcoming album as their second album, with The Last Post presumably being the first. This one may be another physical album that would be for sale at retail. I'm sure we'll get plenty of free stuff before, during and after this album, though.
