Did I miss something, is it an inside joke, or just something that caught on with no explanation?

What is the deal with the Orange/Reddish/Gold hair that is being put on a lot of the avatars?

Thanks, I kind of made that connection in one of the last threads I was looking through on the Rock Band page as an avatar with the hair was right above a post from the dude who has the actual pic of her as his avatar, but I was not sure - so it prompted me to finally ask.
