A word of warning as well as a question for those in-the-know.
Spent 5 hours last night playing Rock Band with a couple friends. We love the game. Went to sleep, woke up to see downloads for it already out. Metallica! I downlaod all the songs, all excited. The guys run over to play more, but we come to find out that the DLC songs are integrated into the random playlists venues give you. The metallica songs are so over the top difficult to sight read we had to scale back the difficulty for all 3 of us to hard or medium. Not a big deal one time. But now 4 times in a row the 'random' songs have been metallica and one other. Our option is to either always choose medium difficulty before doing random songs (which makes the play incredibly boring), or quit the song if it's metallica and retry - losing fans in the process every time.
So don't download the songs until you're ready - you can't get away from them.
My question is to see if there is any way to remove the downloadable content. I'm on the PS3, and the only files saved are the saved games and game updates - i can't find the addons anywhere. I have no issue deleting them and redownloading later when we're better - but playing through random unsure if you'll get screwed with an 'impossible' song sucks.

I thought about this myself when I saw the DLC list. :) I'm not sure about the PS3, but on the 360 you can delete downloaded content for games from the HD and re-download it later if you want.

Downloads on the PS3 are in the game data folder - this means you ahve to delete the update file, since paprently PS3's keep ALL updates in one big file, not many. Delete, redownload the update, and you're golden

Future feature I'd love to see - ability to rate all songs in your library, with high ratings meaning you'd like to see them more often in random lists and the lowest rating indicating you don't want to see them at all at this time.
I downloaded The Police. I don't think it will be a problem if it comes up. :)

I'm not sure about the PS3, but on the 360 if you look in your hard drive's contents in Games, and then Rock Band, you should see one of the items in there is the pack you downloaded. Delete it, and you will be free of it. Don't worry though, because you can re-download things you have bought already over the marketplace at no charge.

This very situation made for some of the best moments of our play session yesterday.
My friend and I started with him on expert guitar and me on medium drums. We play the first few songs in Boston then pick the mystery setlist. Blackened comes up. We both go "aw f*ck" and start to laugh at the same time and proceed to get owned.
Later when another guy came over, who has mad chops on the drums (I moved to bass), we picked another mystery setlist with all of us on hard and Ride the Lightning came up. Which we proceeded to dominate for the (last I checked) top spot on the leaderboard.
I love this game.

HMXSean acknowledged the existence of an issue (or at least similar reports) relating to the proper randomization of mystery setlists.
Yeah it would suck to keep getting 7 and 9 minute songs in BWT mode.. if you don't want them.

Clearly you are not a big Police fan as Stewart Copeland is one of the best drummers seen in the past several decades. The Police have some of the more complex drumming parts around in music. Try playing Next To You on Hard or Expert. Not synchy.

Are the songs for download up on the Playstation Network yet? And if so where abouts?

Okay, people, get this straight. The deal with the 360 content is that if you DL a pack, then you can only delete that pack, but not individual songs within it. This sucks because I DLed the Queens of the Stone Age pack, but later found I hated playing Sick Sick Sick. I love 3s and 7s and Little Sister, but Sick Sick Sick sucks to play. All I can do is delete the whole pack. I can't re-DL individual songs from the pack for free either after deleting them, only the whole pack can be re-Dled for free; it's all separate. Please, HMX, fix this... :(

Yeah they are there. On the first page you will see Rock Band Addons. Just click there and you'll find all packs and singles inside.
Hard to miss really

This specifically was why I regretted downloading Joker & The Thief on day one. That's the only song on Expert that tears me apart (I would rather play Run To The Hills).
I'm able to get through it most of the time, now, but.. yeah. That was stupid hard to deal with early on.

Joker & Thief popped up on random for us on Expert - man was that an unpleasant surprise. I tried a couple times, but that beginning is a pain in the ass to sightread, and there's nobody around with overdrive to bail you out.
Now that I've sat down with it in practice, I can get probably 85-90% of the beginning, and the rest of the song is cake in comparison. Blackened is similar - if you don't have timing down, everyone in the party fails like 45 seconds into the song, but once you've all had a chance to look at it in practice mode, the song isn't a problem. Unlike, say, the guitar solo on Ride the Lightning.
The comment on Sick Sick Sick kind of surprises me though. Yeah, the "They're NOT Hammer-Ons!" part is tough to get down, but the song itself is kind of cool. I think I actually prefer playing it to 3s & 7s. I prefer Little Sister to both, though.

It really is very simple. If you want your achivement and are that good at this game. Dont go all out and let the other guy stay close to your score. Once the song is about 75% over then play 100% and just get your win without a quitter. I learned this from playing GH3 online pro-face battles. It has also worked like a charm on RB too.

I'm sure you meant to post this in the "people need to stop being babies" thread ;)

Yeah, I cracked up when my brother, his wife, and I were playing this past weekend. She was getting a little cocky because she passed a few songs on easy. She was on bass by the way. My brother was on drums and can handle medium for the most part. I was doing guitar. Anyway, we were about to do the mystery setlist and my brother always picks easy for those just in case. He is really new to the drums and never plays video games. He told his wife to pick easy and she said, "It's ok, I'm not a wuss." She said it in that tone that pretty much meant he was. So she picked medium. I couldn't help but smile when Ride the Lightning came up. She failed out three times before we even got to the fast part lol. I was like, what's the matter? Let's try again. I made her try again and she couldn't handle it. I told her I'd rather get through the song with a couple of wusses than fail. She is so hard headed too. I told her like ten times that she is never going to pass the song unless she uses alternate picking, but no she thinks she can pass it with all downstrokes. I would tell her, she would say ok like she was going to do it, then I'd look over at her when she was sinking into the red and she would be downstrumming away lol. I told her that I probably couldn't even pass it using all downstrokes and I've played every Guitar Hero game since their releases. Good times.

This isn't Harmonix's fault, this is Microsoft's fault. That's the way DLC works on Xbox Live, and I'm willing to bet that PSN works the same way. You can't delete parts of a DLC item, only the entire thing. If you want individual control over deleting songs, you have to buy them individually.

I wouldn't call it a "fault," that is just how the DLC works.
This is an issue that should have been fixed in the game by adding a menu to the options allowing you to disable individual DLC songs from mystery lists.
I'm not surprised things like this were overlooked with the amount of features in this game. I'll just be careful about what I download (So far I have the Police pack, Fortunate Son, and My Sharona. None of them are annoyingly difficult).

That might be possible. That's a good idea, if you find how. You can redownload DLC up to 5 times, so you're not screwed for doing so.

I thought downloads from the PSN Store could go to up to five different PS3's, not just five times to the same PS3. Can anyone confirm which way this is from experience?

Yeah, you're right, the blame is on Microsoft. I just hope HMX brings out a patch so you can enable/disable DLC within the game (as someone else said).

Please, please, PLEASE patch this! I made the horrible mistake of downloading and installing Joker and the Thief and Sweet Leaf. Curse my desire to have all the DLC...
