Solo bass vs. solo guitar...where?

Where do you make the selection. I always get the guitar, but I am trying to play bass. I don't ever see that I get the guitar or bass selection for solo career when I make a new rocker. Can anyone help here?

Unfortunately there is no solo career for bass on rock band. Sorry to dash your hopes, but you can still do the bass parts in quick play.
