View Full Version : Small Personal Issue with Rock Band

Honestly, I have no real problems with Rock Band. Really, I don't - every instrument has seemed to work fine, although some of my friends just plain don't like the new guitar. It's not that it isn't functioning correctly - it is. We played for about 8 straight hours today, and everything worked fine.
The drums are freaking difficult for all of us (we swapped places multiple times today), and the singing is pretty damned hard too. However, these are both new to all of us, and we've all been really good at bass and guitar because of GH, so, really, it's to be expected.
However - I think it's silly...VERY silly...that a character you create is locked into playing that one position. I'd like to be able to take my character that plays drums, for instance, and use him to play guitar on solo mode. Why not? Why shouldn't you be able to do this? I mean, I have to make a new character just to play guitar solo? *sigh* It just seems silly.
Other than that - Rock Band rocks.

I agree. having to sign out, start a new band, etc. is a lot for a game that should be a party game where people are passing around controllers. I can't understand it. I would get more enjoyment from this game if I could switch instruments on my gamertag anytime I wanted.

I've been hearing about lots of people having issues with this. I don't have a copy of the game, so clarify something to me: is it just the character you specifiy as the leader that's locked to an instrument? Or is it the entire band?
Either way, I don't really understand why it wouldn't allow you to change instruments. It seems like it'd be an easy thing to adjust during development.

I don't think you will see it in a patch. HMX has stated the reasoning behind it was because certain clothing and accessories are unique to the instrument the character plays.

Yeah, being locked into an instrument is a serious pain in the ass. There were only two of us playing last night and it was a chore, I can only imagine the horror of four people constantly switching.

There doesn't seem to be a way to change the instrument for ANY character in the band (let alone change who you want as the leader of the band).
This is also a "gripe" of mine. Love the game, but my family wants to be able to change instruments on-the-fly. Heck, everyone is going to want this feature. Hoping it's coming on an update SOOOOOON!!
This "gripe" is the only reason I'm here at this forum ... was hoping there was a way to change and we just hadn't figured out how to do it.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just that a character was locked to an instrument... the even worse problem is that if you create a band for Band World Tour, the leader character always has to play. So for instance, if you make the leader a singer, someone in your band always has to be using that character to sing. Even if all of you want to be doing other parts. This is especially brutal if it turns out that none of you can do Hard/Expert singing very well, don't know songs, etc... because it means you won't be able to get to the end of BWT.

yeah, let me have a different character for each instrument tied to my gamertag. Then whatever instrument I pick, I won't have some clothing issue spoiling the fact that I can't change instruments without a pain in the butt.
Yes, that's right.... apparently clothing of my character is more important than the ability to change instruments with my friends... Wait, no it isn't....

whats the problem with just playing as your buddy's character?

o well, I see no issue in just making a new character (if we're talking BWT) or simply remaking them in solo tour for another instrument. Some clothing is instrument specific, that is why they do that.

It's a little annoying, but just make people the same.
All you need to make is:
1 singer
1 guitarist (who you can use for bass too)
1 drummer
They won't all have the same stuff, but you can play Solo and unlock things. At least it's your own character.
