Does anyone else here have a fascination with songs that are longer than an hour? I only know of two ("Absolutego" by BORIS and "Dopesmoker" by Sleep, both of which are doom), so I was curious if anyone knew of some more.

By the way, if you like doom metal or are interested in the genre, I highly recommend "Absolutego" and "Dopesmoker". Both are amazing.

Wow, I've made a lot of threads today.

i have a pretty short-attention span sometimes, but every now and then nothing hits the spot like an album that's just one long track...

a few that immediately come to mind, though i'm not 100% sure they're all necessarily an hour long...

anthony braxton - trios
caacrinolas - a thousand cries has the night
jonathan coleclough - cake (version 2)
ashes - hymn to a grey sky
makoto kawabata - inui 4
corrupted - paso inferior
jabladav - entisaikainen herra hihkasis atilaa menna pilver
bunkur - bludgeon
acid mothers temple & the cosmic inferno - iao chant from the cosmic inferno (and countless other AMT tracks)
morton feldman - string quartet no. 2

Dweezil Zappa has been working on a song called What The Hell Was I Thinking? for the last 13 years. It clocks in at around 75 minutes. I remember reading about in Guitar World years and years ago.

From wiki

Since the early 1990s, Zappa has been working on a piece of music named "What the Hell Was I Thinking?", a 75-minute piece featuring guitar solos by dozens of famous guitar players. The project has suffered from numerous difficulties and has been reworked several times since the '90s. Dweezil said in September 2004:[5] "I started recording it on analog tape almost 13 years ago... There are probably about 35 guest guitar players on it, everybody from Brian May to Edward van Halen, Eric Johnson, Angus and Malcolm Young — it's quite a crazy project. I'm still waiting and hoping to record Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page as some of my final guests on there."

I listen to many of the Jam Bands, such as Phish, Disco Biscuits, Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, etc. Many of their live cuts clock over an hour.

I know, just about 20 minutes. 1 hour is bizzare.

i see the "one-star patrol" hit your thread, tony...

i actually just figured out how to use the search function to look at all the threads i've started (very few), and found all of my threads were one-starred.

sooo insanely lame... maybe snitsky and his band of turds will get banned soon.

i guess we're simply going to have to start looking out for each other.
the voting function is meant as a way to indicate whether or not a thread is useful for users... not a chance to **** on threads that are from users you don't like, or discuss music you don't like.

I don't know who's doing it, but their *******s. It really takes away from the usefulness of the rating system since you now never know if it's genuine or not.

i honestly pay no attention to the ratings, but i presume others take some stock in it.
either way, it's incredible childish, rude, and flat-out moronic.

on-topic: hermann nitsch has a double-cd called "7. sinfonie" which has one long track on each cd.
it's one of my favorite drone pieces, and it's performed with a full orchestra! :)

Between The Buried And Me's "Colors" is an album that is basically one 62-minute track, but separated into different songs on the actual CD.

I'm assuming it's stoner metal by the name...

Yup. The song isn't as consistent as Dopesmoker, though. Some parts seem like they could be split up. Still a great song, though.

The only one I own is Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon album which consists of one 61-minute track. It's relaxing and pretty decent, but I usually pass it over in favour of The Pearl.

and with damn good reason. "the pearl" blows it out of the water, in my opinion.

I'm only familiar with the aforementioned "Garden of Dreams" by Flower Kings and "Delirium Cordia" by Fantomas. Both of which are fun.

I know plenty of 40-50 minute songs.

The Pearl would have to be in my Top 5 Albums list. That's how highly I rate it. That might baffle 95% of the audience here though. :D

Delìrium Còrdia - Fantomas - 74 minutes and 17 seconds.

was just about to post this. so so great.

the only other long songs i have are some by the band Moonsorrow and 45:33 by LCD Soundsystem, which is a great driving/running track (considering it was designed for that purpose)

i never rate threads, but after hearing about the tiger petters going about and being vindictive and 1 starring things, i will 5 star it. so there.
