What is You Opinion on Godsmack?

There are many people who believe Godsmack sounds like a lot like Alice in Chains. I can agree on this. After all AIC had a song that had the same name, in yet Godsmack claims they didn't get there name from them. At points Sully can sound like Layne. They even were influenced by AIC. With these points what is your opinion about them and the whole Godsmack and AIC thing?

Godsmack is pretty awesome. I saw them live when they came to South Bend last summer and it was a pretty damn good concert

I like Godsmack. I agree they sound nothing like Alice in Chains but I don't think their a horrible band. I'm not a huge fan but I like some of their songs. Voodoo, Whatever, I Stand Alone, Awake, and Speak are pretty good.

Not really a fan of Godsmack. I'll listen to them but if i have a choice I would rather pick something else. They are just a little to slow for me and to me at least they don't really have any song's with heavy heavy guitar/drums. Maybe because I like thrash metal?

As for the Alice in Chains thing, I don't think they sound similar at all.

I like their singles, but they are too repetitive for me to get into. Most all of it sounds the same. And the songs that sound different than these songs, all sound the same.

I like Whatever, Voodoo, Speak, Keep Away the most. The Enemy's pretty good, too.

Then their second CD wasn't quite as good, decent, but not as good as I was hoping.

And then it just got progressively worse.

My ex-girlfriend saw them in concert once, and I guess Sully and Godsmack's drummer had a drum battle, and at every situation she would remind me of how awesome it was.

The last couple times I stopped to say "Drum battles are always awesome, but it's GODSMACK! Call me when it's John Bonham and Keith Moon" (yes, I know that's impossible, but she didn't know who either of those two are anyway). Although every time I always had other people for Drummer A and Drummer B because 90% of drummers >>>> Godsmack's drummer and Sully.

But yes, I agree, Sully is very punchable.

your 2 cents is worthless. I was in Philly 2 yrs ago when they opened for Metallica--its a known fact from anybody that weas there that they blew Metallica away, and I'm a huge Metallica fan. Since Ive seen them 6 times most recently at the Tower theatre in philly last May 27 and they are the best shows I've seen. They do work for the troops --what haters band plays for the troops? Which band of yours is good enough to play for the 1st Marine Division on the troops benefit DVD---Godsmack thats who. I met them at the Tower Theatre and they love and give time to the fans. I can go on and on bro.

Regardless, like someone said before musical taste is personal. I personally like Godsmack AND Alice in Chains. I don't care if one was influenced by the other or not, or if one sounds like the other or not. I find so very little to be truly original these days, but I would rather play to rock bands that have great rythms and easily recognizable than to a bunch of talentless musicians that simply bang on their instruments, scream into a mic, and have never heard.

Why? Because that is the appeal to a game like this. Being like or emulating a band you like.

So like them or not Godsmack is a mainstream rock band with easily recognizable tunes that would be fun to play along with in my opinion. If you don't like them then don't play them, there are plenty in the game I and many others don't like that you do, but doesn't make it any less fun for you to play them.

I personally can't wait for some Godsmack to make it into game, and I would list the songs I want, but so many others have listed some on this and other threads that I would hate to sound like a broken record.

I love Godsmack...Why's everyone bashing them? About a year ago i went and bought the Alice in Chains Greatest Hits CD after i heard everyone talking about how great they were. It was incredibly boring. The only songs I liked were Them Bones and Rooster. The rest like, No excuses and Would? did not appeal to me. ANYWAY to get back on topic, I don't think they dont sound like Alice in chains whatsoever.
