didn't have this problem until about three hours of use. Strumbar still works fine. I can lay the guitar flat on the floor to keep it from moving and soon as my overdrive bar fills halfway it automatically engages. Anyone else having this problem? Seriously harmonix I know you guys didn't build these guitars yourself but I would be getting out a big set of boots and stick them up the ass of the people who did, cuz they are junk.

Happened a couple of times for me, no idea why. It wasn't all the time, just 2-3 times in a few hours

So far the only problem I have with this game is that I can't seem to activate the Overdrive when i tilt my guitar... :P

So I have the exact opposite situation that you... I have to yank the guitar upwards with some force in order to activate it (thus causing me to be unable to save some fellow bandmates and therefor fail the song because I couldn't get the Overdrive to work).

You can also hit the "BACK" button to activate overdrive. I do this when I'm lazy.

But to the OP, yes I've noticed that my overdrive activates sometimes if I'm laying down and playing so the guitar is flat on its back. Have never had this happen when guitar is in the intended position though. Seems like the sensor is very sensitive?

Not 100% sure but from what i can tell, whether it is supposed work this way or not, on easy and medium difficulties overdrive IS automatic. Go into hard or expert mode and it does not automatically engage when the meter is half full.

I don't think that's accurate. I was playing bass last night on hard and it was doing it. However, the guitar wasn't doing it. Weird.

I can't remember if it was after the patch or not.

Interesting. Again that's just what i noticed. I have no problems engaging overdrive in hard and expert modes.

Bump for more answers...

I can confirm that I have the exact same problem. When my meter fills up halfway it automatically engages. This is on Hard mode as well.

I've tested this out due to having similar problems.

If you are sitting (say in an X-Rocker chair) your guitar is at an odd angle that makes the sensor in the guitar think it is being tipped. Try standing or in a different sitting position.

I got over my issues and it works perfectly.

I am also having the same problem :( Good to know it's not just me, I guess.

I am standing and it seems to kick in automatically.

Hmm. Are you holding it at a higher angle than you should be?

I've had the same problem (XBox360), have only played the game on hard mode, and the overdrive does kick in automatically. I don't play my guitar perfectly parallel to the floor, but who does?

On a side note, after my strum bar stopped working (grr), I used my GH3 wireless controller and had no problems with overdrive.

The exact same thing happened to me, and I realized the same thing. Change your position so the guitar isn't at an odd angle, because the sensor is getting tripped. It isn't a hardware problem, and easily fixed. :)

I have the exact problem. 80% of the time it starts all by itself once it reaches the half full mark. I've tried multiple guitar positions. I contacted support via email and they gave me the standard form letter email with try to unplug/restart/blah blah blah crap! I don't even think they read my email. Should I return the guitar?

I've been having that problem too. They just screwed up on a lot of the aspects of the guitar.

same problem here....no matter what angle the guitar is at.

yep, same issue here.

it only does it about 50% of the time for me, but it's definitely happening. combine this with the double-strumming from the strum bar, and there is something wrong here.

Yeah, i wish the sensor wasn't QUITE so sensitive. I miss the x-plorer's sensitivity.

I have the opposite problem myself, mine won't activate unless I bang on the guitar. So I usually end up having to hit the back button, which usually messed me up while I'm playing.

Well It's seems im not the only one then. Man, somebody's QA department needs a good thrashing.

I have this problem too. So can anyone confirm this isn't a hardware problem?

This is the issue I am having as well. I have trouble getting it to activate by tilting the guitar, but it tends to just engage itself randomly. Quite irritating.

Les Paul controller has none of this issue.

I'm having sort of the exact problem, it will only activate when I tilt it up to a 90 degree angle. It's no biggie, at least it doesn't go off automatically.

Same problem here. Overdrive will SOMETIMES (often enough to be irritating) engage without me moving at all. I have tried standing perfectly still and it will still turn on. IE, this happens when I'm standing like a normal human being holding a guitar. Feels like something is wrong with the tilt sensor; the simple act of vigorous strumming it enough to activate it.

Eager to hear if anyone has found this a valid reason to return the bundle or get EA to exchange for a new guitar.

Same problem here. Overdrive activates occasionally with the guitar basically parallel to the floor - not moving at all.

Same problem.

I loved the sensitivity with the Wii/GH3. Best by far.
