Immediately when I heard the microphone could sometimes be used as a tambourine, I thought of the famous SNL skit and mentioned to my friends that I would much rather be able to use it as a cowbell. So far, all of them thought it was a funny, neat idea.
My suggestion would be to allow for a purchase to change the sound effect of the mic and keep the function the same, maybe a few different effects.
After all, every song could use a little more cowbell.
