Rock Band killed my PS3?

So I was playing Rock band for about 4 hours last night when it froze up mid song. Actually it didn't completely freeze, because we could still press the fret keys and the different drums and see the corresponding action on the screen, but the music and all the other animations stopped completely. After about 30 seconds everything dropped to a black Sony screen saying that the disc was unreadable, scratched or dirty. From that moment until now I haven't been able to get my PS3 to read another disc of any kind.

I have the newest 40 gb PS3, so I'm now wondering if that reported 40% failure rate might be true, or if this is somehow Rock Band related. Calling Sony today to see about getting a replacement system, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.
