View Full Version : Upstrum NOT Working?

I notice most people saying downstrum won't work. My fender is opposite, downstrum works fine, upstrum won't even register.
Not a big deal right now, seeing as how I downstrum anyways, but it makes it impossible on certain sections to alt strum.
Just posting the issue here, maybe HMX will see it and adjust.
Also, any else notice how hard it is to strum the faster sections?

My upstrum's getting stuck in the "up" position and not returning to neutral fast enough. Probably the same problem you have. It all depends on which position you hit more, up or down.
I don't buy that you just have to be "gentler". I'm not playing any differently than I did on my xplorer, which has lasted for months and is working just fine as a replacement RB guitar. If the fender can't take THREE HOURS of medium level upstrums then the thing is flat out defective. I've already contacted EA for my replacement, which had better not have the same mushy, easily stuck strummer.

Are you a lefty by any chance? :D
Anyway, when I first started playing with the Strat I noticed the same thing with fast sections. Then I adjusted my playing style so that I just lightly tap on the strummer rather than trying to strum it all the way down. Doing it this way lets me strum just as fast as I could with the Xplorer but with even less muscle.
Word on that. I noticed my downstrums didn't seem to always register, so I started hitting it lighter and it works perfectly. I think sometimes if you hit it too hard, u don't let it come up all the way before trying it again. But anyway, it definitely worked for me by hitting it lighter.

I'm not a lefty and my upstrum doesnt work either! i can still play most songs on hard just fine but I cant navigate any menus because I cant go up after i go down!!! WTF! this happened after like 30 mins of play to! When I had GH2 I logged hundreds of hours on the xplorer controller and never had a problem! 30 minutes with this piece of crap and it's already ruining my experience!

I'm having trouble with my upstrum as well. I first noticed it when I was playing long series of strums (the easiest thing to do). So I went to a couple of different menus (in-game and on the xbox dash board) to see what would happen. Sure enough, as I strum up and down the menu selection slowly bumps itself to the bottom since its missing an upstrum from time to time. And no... I'm not going crazy on the strum bar. I'm just moving it up and down like I would in the average song.
Have repairs been addressed anywhere else in the forum? My excitement for this game is slowly going away... :(

I'm a righty :p but I will give your tapping technique a try. I hope it helps!

Yea i've tried seeing if I can fix it (without opening it) to no avail.
After nearly failing Creep because of it, I realized I should at least start the process of getting it replaced

I played for a few hours on expert and my downstrum isn't working properly...but like an old NES, if I just blow into it, it works fine again for all of about 2 minutes at most...weird.

well, the warranty says to "blow compressed air" into the strum bar area because of "dust and debris".
The plot thickens.........

Exact same thing happened to mine (including the rattling around inside the guitar).
EDIT: I take back the stuff about a small piece rattling around inside. The sound is too "controlled." I'm guessing the rattling is the sound of the part that allows the guitar to register when you lift it for overdrive. But the downstrum is still broken.
