I opened the box with my wife and a couple buddies. Wife and I are used to GH3, one buddy sings kareoke (sp?) from time to time and plays a GH2, and the other dude has never seen anything like this.

We quickly created some characters just to get going. I took bass, wife took the fender, kareoke dude got the mic, and newbie got the drums.

The thing that shocked us first was that our custom characters were in the loading screens. WHOA nice! The fret boards onscreen are much better than GH, the crowd looks a ton more realistic (movements and positioning, yeah its all cartoon characters). The noise overlays on the band members during songs really looks tight. There are just sooo many little things that polished the game very nicely. The notes on the fretboard look much nicer than the circles on GH. I'm happy that Harmonix decided to stay with cartoony characters instead of drawing freaky looking semi realistic characters as in GH3.

We started played and didn't look up for 5 hours, now we're all tired, sore, and had an excellent time.

Tonight after work, i'm going to start drawing a sleeve tattoo for my dude.

Annoyances:
Can't change character attributes once created, just rename, hair and clothing. I wanted to rename him, and change his face, but couldn't change his face. So i deleted him and lost $400.
Perhaps there is another way to do it, but I couldn't figure it out right away, but I wanted to switch from bass to mic, and still use my dude, but couldn't figure it out and ended using the guy already set to mic.
Trying to stay in sync w/ my bass chart w/ my buddy singing right next to me is an issue, but nothing wrong with the game.

All in all, GOOD JOB HARMONIX! can't wait to progress further in the game.
