I have seen Slipknot, Lamb of God, Disturbed, Devil Driver, Dragonforce, Mastodon, Kill Switch, Dethklok, Chimera, Clutch, Metallica, Slayer, In Flames and Megadeth.

1.Lamb of God
2.Disturbed
3.Chimera

In that order are the bands that put on the best shows. What where your guy's favorites?

Hmm. Top 3, no particular order

1. Rush - Snakes and Arrows tour (second leg). They played Red Barchetta, and I almost cried.
2. Sparta - Threes tour. The Metro is one of my favorite venues, and this is easily the best smaller show I've ever been to. I still can't believe how powerful that show was.
3. Heaven and Hell - Metal Masters tour. Judas Priest and Motorhead kicked ass, as did Testament, but Heaven and Hell absolutely murdered me. One of my life goals, seeing Tony Iommi live, complete.

I got hooked on a band called "The Cruzados" years ago after seeing "Road House" (they had a song in the movie called "Don't Throw Stones" which isn't on the soundtrack unfortunately). They also had a few songs that got played quite a bit on the radio.

My girlfriend at the time knew how much I liked 'em and bought me tickets for my birthday when they were playing at a small venue in my area. That's one I've seen that I'm glad I went to.

Another one would be The Cars/Robert Cray. I'd been a big fan of the Cars already and that's mainly who I went to see. When Robert Cray came out and did his set I was really impressed and became a big fan after that show.

Eric Clapton is another I'm glad I went to see.

I've been to about 10,000 concerts in my life, so it'd be really hard to pick out a favorite, but here goes.

1. Chris Connelly; Bernies Distillery, Columbus, OH, Apr 2002. I saw him at a little dive bar that I had played at as well, and there were maybe 30 people in the audience. It was as if he was serenading to me. Very intimate, very awesome.
2. VNV Nation; Palace Theatre (I think), Los Angeles, CA, Dec 2001. This concert was the one that made me stop listening to the sisters of mercy and thrill kill kult. In other words, I stopped listening to old music.
3. Thrill Kill Kult and Lords of Acid; Raleigh, NC (I forget the venue), 1995 sometime. Just so much fun. It was back in my heavy party/rave days, so you can probably imagine I was high on more than just life LOL. I lost part of my shirt, so I had to buy a new one.
4. Faith and the Muse; Symposium, Cleveland, OH, Dec 1997. It was another small intimate show, but this one sticks in my head because the opening band, rhea's obsession, were stuck in canada so they invited some local artists to "open" for the band, and my band did a few songs. The whole night was like a koombaya campfire singalong, only with goths.
5. Poison, Cinderella, Dokken, Slaughter; Polaris Ampitheater, Aug 2000. I only vaguely remember this show, which is how I knew I had a good time. It had really nothing to do with the bands (although Cinderella was amazing), everything to do with the fact that I had weaseled my way into VIP seating with my stoner buddies. It's the closest I ever came to being a groupie (unless you count the time I was back stage with Craig Adams from the Mission, but we just talked about basses, dammit.)

I also enjoyed Arcade Fire with LCD Soundsytem.

Radiohead at Metropolis in Montreal, the OK Computer pre-tour.

Runner-ups would be Goldfrapp, White Stripes, Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire (in an old church!!!) and Björk. I think.

I've been to many, many concerts.

So, I guess that means a Dead concert wouldn't count? Terrible, terrible joke....

Anyway, I just started my concert-going this summer (I'm only a youngin.) Since I've only been to three concerts, I'll just list them in no particular order.

0 Boston/Styx- Boston was the "main attraction" for this show, but Styx did a much better job in my opinion. The "Boston cover band featuring Tom Scholz" was still good, don't get me wrong, but Styx just had a better night.
0 Rush- They're f***ing Rush.
0 The Eagles- We had seats that sucked a big one, almost got kicked out, and ended up with floor seats. It was amazing.

Didn't Cruzados have a song on the Repo Man soundtrack as well? Gotta dig that up tonight. Haven't heard that in a while.

As for best concerts, I don't know if I can choose just one - but here's a small chronological list compiled from memory.

- Oingo Boingo - West Hartford Ballroom, CT May 1987
- Metallica, The Cult - Lake Compounce, CT July 1989
- Carcass, Brutal Truth, Napalm Death, Cathedral - MA 1992

Iron Maiden live was f*cking amazing! Other than that, all the other concerts that I have ever been to have been s*it. Except when I saw Journey with my friend. That was awesome, but no match for what Iron Maiden did. I woke up with a messed up neck for head banging too much.

I'm not sure about that one without looking it up. I might be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure they re-formed as "Tito & Tarantula" and were the band onstage in the movie "From Dusk 'Til Dawn".

Yeah, one of the guys (Tito)is friends with Robert Rodriguez, and if I remember correctly he played Cheech's right hand man in Desperado. I liked the Tito and Tarantula stuff off of that soundtrack too.

If I remember extra correctly, Johnny "Vatos" Hernandez of Oingo Boingo fame was at one point the drummer for Tito and Tarantula, and appeared onstage with them during that bit in From Dusk 'Til Dawn.

Your post hiccuped :D. After I made that last post I went to youtube and noticed they had songs in a few Tarantino movies. That whole "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" soundtrack looks like it would be a good one to own and might have to go get that one.

I never delved too deep into the band and couldn't tell you names or evolution of the group but the night I went to see the Cruzados whoever the guitar player was he was amazing and had me in awe the whole night.

Edit: His name is Marshall Rohner.

I saw the FNM / Helmet tour when it was at the Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, CT. Great show! It was awesome hearing Patton singing some of the old Mosely era stuff.

I was supposed to go to your no. 2 show, but I was poor at the time and had to settle for all my friends telling me how good it was.

Yeah, FNM was awesome. I was up near the front at a general admission show. They blocked off the front section about 30-40 feet back from the stage and when they started playing Midlife Crisis, the crowd went nuts and I looked back and saw everyone busting through the barricades to get up front. Security had to link together to hold everyone back! Same thing happened w/ We Care A Lot. It was in an old auditorium and the crowd was so crazy that some of the railings in the balcony broke off and people were balcony diving into the crowd below! I'll never forget that one.
The Priest show was amazing, too. Sucks that you missed it. I was in your situation a few months before that show and had to miss Iron Maiden w/ Anthrax. Still kicking myself to this day.

Iron Maiden is number one. I've really only seen three concerts that really amazed me, and all three were this year, two of them by the same artist. Therefore, I don't really have too much exposure. However, I'm pretty sure that Maiden will always have the top spot for the effect on my life.

Man , I've been to a lot of shows in my time. A lot. So many in fact that I sometimes forget that I've seen a band live until I see them again. Let's see, some real stand outs for me would be, in no particular order....

Rolling Stones at the RPM Club Toronto 1994
Rolling Stones at the Horseshoe Tavern Toronto 1997 - In both cases it was just cool as hell to see a band like the Stones in a bar/club. And the shows were cheap! Tickets were like 5 bucks for the RPM show and I got in to the Horseshoe free.

Prince at The Warehouse Toronto 1995(?) - Again to see someone of that status in such a small venue was a treat. And he was incredible that night. Played his ass off on the guitar , bass, piano and drums. Just incredible.

Guns n' Roses at The Whiskey LA 1987 - The original GnR at The Whiskey 'nuff said.

Iron Maiden at Maple Leaf Gardens 1985 - Not that the show was out of the ordianry , it was awesoe though , but just the fact that i was lucky enough to be at a show from such an iconic legendary tour. World Slavery Tour FTW!

David Lee Roth at Maple Leaf Gardens 1986 - Eat 'em Smile Tour, Dave, Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai and Greg Bissonette. Epic.

Alice Cooper 1987 - Got absolutely drenched in blood from the incredibly gory performance of Dead Babies

And just because it was my first concert experience ever and changed my life forever

Alice Cooper CNE Grandstand Toronto Aug 19 1980 - A day of infamay in Toronto rock history. Worst riot in Toronto concert history.

There were many many others but these tend to stand out for me.

Only bands I've seen are Skynyrd, Maiden, The Police, and Rush. Loved them all, but if I had to, they would be in this order:

1. Rush
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd
3. The Police
4. Iron Maiden (The band rocked, the sound system/acoustics, not so much.)

Ive seen Iron Maiden 3 times the most recent one in Concord on their Somewhere Back in Time tour was amazing. All the effects were great the fog and fireworks on Rime of the Ancient Mariner was the most epic thing I've ever seen. When I saw them the first time they were supporting Sabbath and they didn't have the whole big show and the second time in LA the sound system was kinda quirky.

Second best show is Heaven and Hell (Dio era Sabbath basically if you haven't heard of em yet) the live variations on their songs are really great and its one of the best shows there is.

Joe Bonamassa

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I figured it was better than creating a new one when this one already existed.

If I had to pick one concert I've been to as the best, it would definitely have to be Iron Maiden. The stage set up was amazing and provided a visual feast to attendees, and the bands' performance was spot on. They all were at the top of their game that night, and were all energetic. Bruce was attentive to the crowd and doing anything and everything to make sure we all stayed pumped.

Rage Against The Machine (Voodoo Fest 2007) - The setlist was incredible: Tire Me, Vietnow, Down Rodeo, Know Your Enemy. The crowd sang so loud we were louder then Zach with the huge sound system, and EVRYBODY knew the words!

Flogging Molly (Lollapalooza 2008) - Every song was a mosh, crazy live energy

Nine Inch Nails (Fiddlers Green 2009) - The set list was amazing not to mention Reznors' live energy

Green Day (Pepsi Center 2005) - First real concert, WOW, 3 hour set, never for a single second did I look away from the stage.

Radiohead (Lollapalooza 2008) - As close to a religious experiance as i'll ever have. I believed in rock and roll after that show.

Bad Religion (Warped Tour 2009) - I was the only person in my section of the stage who knew any of the words to anything, not to mention they played every song I came to see them for. 21'st century digital boy and Sorrow are awesome live.

Gallows (Warped Tour 2009) - They came off the stage after their first song and set up in the middle of the audiance. They had the biggest circle pit they had all Warped Tour and told the Screamo and ****ty "Pop" bands to **** off, and that Warped is supposed to be for punk rock!

Weezer (Fiddlers Green 2009) - They came out after Taking Back Sunday who had warmed up the crowd by mentioning the aroma of Denver. Their first song? Hash Pipe! Every song sounded amazing and the energy they had live is inexplicable. Many a person in the audiance was going for the checkedwoo reaction, but by the end of the second song EVERY BODY was singing and having a great time. I almost got sad when I realized they had to stop playing so that Blink-182 could play, and I came for Blink!

One day, I was incredibly sick and didn't even feel like walking around my house, much less go to a concert. I went to Joe Cocker that day. He was pretty good. Only concert I've ever been forced to go to.

Of course, i felt like I was gonna throw up the whole time.

EDIT: heheh, wow, I misread the title. I thought it said "worst concert you've been forced to go to". You know what, I might make that thread.

Best concert I've ever been to hands down was Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood.

I saw Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, and Against Me! during the American Idiot tour

Green Day sucks now, but they put on one hell of a show

I also saw the 2008 KROQ Weenie Roast

Metallica
Offspring
Raconteurs
Pennywise
Bad Religion
Atreyu (my friend made me sit through this)
Flogging Molly (fun as hell)
Rise Against (I just flipped them off the whole time since they suck and they are terrible live)

I think thats every one that played the main stage,

but the top 2 bands on that list made it worthwhile (no songs from St. Anger and only 4 from Load/Reload)

I guess what made it memorable was being FRONT F*CKING ROW and singing along with James during Seek and Destroy

I saw Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, and Against Me! during the American Idiot tour

Green Day sucks now, but they put on one hell of a show

That's when I saw them only I don't think Against Me! was playing.

I hate to agree with you, but in the face of idiot, 21'st century is terible
What it actualy is, is an album that if any other band did would get about a 7 with strong potential in their future.......Green Day does it, it's a 5 showing their decline.

The best songs on that album, are 7's everything else is about a 4. As oposed to idiot with one song being a 5 the best songs 10's.

This title bugs me. "Live concert." What other kind of concert is there?

This is one of the best posts I've seen in a while.

You were at the Chicago Winwood/Clapton show, right? That was pretty incredible. Would've liked to have heard Dear Mr. Fantasy to close the show, but the Buddy Guy appearance was a more than fair trade.

Also, I'm updating my original list with the Drive-By Trucker's show I saw in October of last year. I wasn't yet familiar with all of their catalog, which usually ruins a live show for me, but they still blew me away.

Fogey, with posts like that, I can see why you're such a legend here.

.

and to put a non-sarcastic spin on what you asked, there is video footage of concerts on DVDs and whatnot, which you can see, and isn't a live concert

TY

I guess I always assumed the OP stuck that qualifier in there to exclude Ashley Simpson, among others..... :D

But I do appreciate those with an eye toward repetitious redundancies ;)

I saw AC/DC back in 1985. It was a an excellent lineup with Motley Crue, Accept, Dio, Ozzy, and Van Halen. AC/DC finished the event and blew everyone away.
