When you are playing on-line can you hear the vocalist's (on-line player's) voice or does only the real vocal track play?

I was only able to hear the pre-recorded vocal track, not the real on-line player... :(

Quite sure it was announced in an interview (the one with Alex R. where he talks about the hundreds of DLC and such) that you can only hear the pre-recorded track. IT would also appear the Vocalist can also only be on the game hosted side.

we found a way around this, and I already created a thread yesterday for this.
All the singer has to do is hold down the xbox live chat button, and everyone can hear them. Unfortuantely, they will be a half beat behind :( Pretty lame if you ask me. It feels like the gimped the singer in the game. He doesn't appear to be helpful for anything like the other instruments, and then on top of it, everyone can't hear them.

I think the reason why they did that is so people wouldnt be afraid of goin online and using the singing part of the game

A better solution would have been to add an option on whether they could hear you.

More than likely they did it for latency reasons. When I was playing online I couldn't hear the actual person singing, but whenever they missed/did badly on a phrase the pre-recorded track would fade out just like when you miss a note on the other instruments. I think that's a much better way to do it, personally. I don't really have any desire to hear strangers sing.

I agree.
But you have to keep in mind that it probably won't sound as good as you think. Wouldn't it sound kinda robotic? Or is that with just the headset?

Robotic = Adapter for the headset. That's why it's sounding funny. Goto Radio Shack with the adapter and ask for a better quality one. you'll find that it makes ALL the difference in the world for the sound quality.

It's definitely for bandwidth-quality/latency reasons and not for any gameplay reason.
Why does the singer have to be local to the hosting Xbox? Why can't either (or any?) Xbox score the local singer?

Yeh, the reason why they dont stream it I bet is because it would ALWAYS be out of sync with everyone else, due to network latency.
It's probably an unsolvable problem until some sort of SUPER-internet comes around. ;)

It is because the online experience is a fraud!!
Your just being matched up with bots to make you think that there really is a online component to this.. That is why they had to hide the vocals or else you would know the TRUTH!

I have the PS3 version.
I also work for a company that sells Voip telephone systems. I spoke with one of my technicians about why there would be lag. It all comes down to the network. There ARE fixes but it depends on whether or not Harmonix/Sony are willing to add the necessary hardware to speed up the network to acceptable standards.
Personally, I think most singers would like to be heard and I think most players would enjoy hearing a really great singer or enjoy laughing at a really horrible one.
It's just another reason why the developers didn't appear to do any quality control BEFORE releasing the game. In so many ways it has been a great let down and I think most of us should demand some form of a refund as it does not perfom as it was advertised.

Also because, quite honestly, in a game where everything else sounds quite nice, the quality of voice through live chat is very poor.
