View Full Version : Very Happy, Hardware Fine; A Few Questions...

Let me start off by saying that this game is everything I wanted it to be. Thank you, Harmonix. Bravo. I've been waiting for this since my friends and I first mused about a future "Guitar Hero" with a full band.
I purchased two 360 bundles to get 2 Strats (as I didn't own a GH controller). After about 7 hours of BWT last night with 3 people, both guitars and drums are all working fine - none of us has been brave enough to sing yet. I personally LOVE the new guitar - much more sensitive and realistic than the older versions. Feels much more like plucking strings than flipping a rocker switch. Down with the Strat haters. I'm over 6' tall, and this is MUCH more comfortable to play than those tiny, toy-like guitars of old.
As a side note, both my bundles (from two different Gamestops in the KC area) were inspected early October. I played bass almost exclusively (and really enjoyed it, despite most people's opinions of that role) and felt no degradation at all. I occasionally set off my Overdrive without meaning to, but I do tend to rock out fairly hard while playing (bass seems to be great for that!) and could simply be a little too animated for the guitar's tastes.
Overall, huge thumbs-up from all three of us. We had a blast, and plan to spend all holiday weekend rocking our friggin' faces off.

As I alluded, though, I do have a few questions/quibbles. I know some of these have been mentioned elsewhere, but hey, such is the nature of a forum. I'm sure most of these are probably things that can't be altered at this point, but I thought it'd be worth bringing up.
1. Should be able to swap characters between instruments. It's a party game, and everyone wants to move their character around with them without creating multiple versions. While it's certainly not a big deal, it definitely cuts down on the fun party aspect a bit. Not being professional musicians, people will get tired (physically as well!) of certain instruments and want to move periodically.
2. Is there a way to create a stable band lineup without all 4 people playing? Our lead singer was changing pretty much every gig, and while a little comical, it'd be nice to have a constant singer. We even created ourselves a frontman, but couldn't figure out how to bring him in. Can we just add him to the roster but not have him play? (Sorry, currently at work and cannot test. Was too busy rocking to think of this last night.)
3. Some songs repeat wayyyy too much. We've opened up over half the songs, but every Mystery Setlist is "Maps" and "Say It Ain't So." Despite how many times we've played them, neither is in the top two of Top Songs, so that'd obviously not it. Any suggestions of how to get a little more variety on this? We all like both songs, but it is getting a little old. (Makes me sympathize with real bands having to always play their "hits," but come on... Certain things don't need to be so realistic.) I've read that maybe opening stuff up in solo might help this? Can anyone back this up?
--------------------
That's really it. Really. I love the game, and, with the exception of the repeating songs (which won't be an issue outside of BWT anyway), I wouldn't say any of them are anything serious - just things that would have made an already great game just that little bit better.

About the Mystery set list thing - every single Mystery Setlist we played last night was Mississippi Queen and Paranoid - after the 10th time or so it was a little ridiculous - this morning, having recovered from teh excitement and large quantities of booze - I realized that those were the 2 songs I played in the Solo Tour to test out the gear before everyone came over. I think the solution to that is to just play and unlock more songs in the Solo Tour on the band leaders account.
Also, after about 6 hours last night the guy playing the Strat (I was being a gracious host and using the Xplorer) started to complain about the guitar being less responsive (as many, many on here have reported) so we switched guitars and I had no problem getting perfect runs on long stretches of notes on Expert - so now I'm inclined to say it's somehow related to play style - I don't understand how other people are playing - I mostly just downstrum with my thumb, but I do it fairly soft. Anyway - i had no trouble with the guitar after a lengthy marathon last night.

For those having difficulties with repeated songs in BWT mode... a pretty straightforward solution I found was to have the band leader go through a single player career and unlock all the songs there.
All the song unlocks then transfer into BWT for create a setlist, mystery setlist, etc.
Buying DLC also reduces the frequency of repeats obviously. ;)
I did the above by total accident and it worked very well. About 4 hours of BWT and like 2 song repeats.

Well, my guitars are both going south.
Currently, I've tried this fix on one...

and it seems to be pretty successful so far, but is still missing notes occasionally.
Opening up the other tomorrow to see how that goes....

Question Apple,
I am the Drummer in my "rock"band, but I just beat the solo tour on Guitar. When I go back to the band will the set list be unlocked? Both toons are under my specific profile.
EDIT: It works..I just tried it....I have the entire set list open now.

Crap. I think I have a major problem.
I created a guitar player and have played into the last set of songs. My band was created with a different guitar player. I would switch, but I think the band guitar guy is marked as the leader. Does this mean I won't have those songs available now?

I think it is tied to the profile you create your people under. You should be fine.

Thanks. I started a new thread since I didn't want this one to get off track.
I would like to know the answer to OP's question #2. My son cracked my up by saying 'great we got the fat guy singing for us again!'.

I haven't tested this yet, but...... if you create 4 characters, create a band and slot the players in, there's a way to save the lineup and they should show up even if only 2 humans play.
