View Full Version : Should I trade my ps3 for Xbox elite?

I really like my PS3 and there are some great games coming out for it, but all of my friends play xbox and I feel a little lonely sometimes because I mostly play online and usually I am joining games by myself.
Do you think its worth giving up the features of PS3 (blu-ray, games, upgraded HDD) so I can play with my friends?
14 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer.
I'd like to try and convince them to get PS3 but its just not going to happen, so I either enjoy the PS3 by myself or switch to xbox and play with them.
Keep in mind, I have a bunch of rock band songs and a few downloaded games on my Hard Drive.
So... you think its worth trading?

NO! what you should do is save up and buy the Xbox but under no circumstances should you sell your PS3! one you're not going to get anything close to the value of it and two there are just too many big things coming in the PS3's future to just sell it right now... plus you have DLC downloaded so you'll be losing alot of money in the process... trust me you'll feel better if you just wait and get the Xbox and have the best of both worlds :)
You can add me if you feel like it :) PSN is in my sig

I don't think it is wise. Here are some reasons.
- You have already invested in DLC
- Blu-Ray
- Trophies
- Playstation Home
- Games you have downloaded.
- Exclusives such as LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Killzone 2, MAG, DC Universe, Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2.
- Games coming over from X Box 360, such as Bioshock and Eternal Sonata.
- Free online
If you want to play with your friends on X Box 360, save up your money and buy one. If you need someone to play with on the Playstation 3, add me and the other great PS3 users on this forum.

I wouldn't do it. I have an xbox and i find the ps3 to be a superior piece of hardware. Most of my close friends use the ps3 so i know how you feel. I just went around asking acquaintances what they played and started playing with some of them. It can still be just as fun.

Let's see, you're only 18, so it's not a shocker that your friends all have X-box's. Trust me, you can meet plenty of people to play PS3 online with. Use the Band Wanted thread and you can meet some hardcore gamers. I have about 18-20 people on my PS3's "Friends List", but only 3 of them are people I actually know in real life.
Since you're 18, there is a chance that you will be going to college soon (if you haven't already). Trust me, you'll find plenty of gamers there.

The short answer is NO! The long answer is NOOOOOOOOOO!
I'm in the same position. All of my friends have friends have 360s because they're cheaper. I wanted Blu-ray so I went with the PS3. I have no problem being lonely with my system. As others mentioned, look for contacts on the forum and you'll have plenty of people to play with.

I would say yes (as I love my 360), but take some time to think. Which model do you have? How many card slot are there and do you use them? Does this one have backwards compatibility? The newer model lack this feature. Do you run hi-def? Think about the Blu-Ray. Make an educated decision. Plus, you can pick up a refurbed 360 from Gamestop for pretty cheap anymore. And with the recent price drop of the 120GB HDD, you can get quite a deal...
Just my two cents.
EDIT: And don't forget! God of War 3 is coming out next year!!!

I would say no, keep it for the blueray. Save up some money and then go out and buy a 360, that way you have both. Trade in some of your old games you don't play anymore, along with those outdated consoles that you may own.

People keep throwing out blu-ray blu-ray blu-ray, but unless you're watching a new blu-ray movie every night, it's meaningless. you bought it as a game system and if you don't feel you're getting the most out of it as a game system, then you should sell it, period. By the holiday season you'll be able to get a stand-alone blu-ray player for very little if you feel the need and the rumors are swirling again that MS will release an external blu-ray addon for the 360 soon.
It's all about games and while the ps3 has some solid games coming out eventually, the 360 has more of them right now and just as many good ones coming out in the future.
The best option would naturally be to keep what you have and pick up a cheap 360 when you can, but if want satisfaction now then the obvious choice is to sell the ps3. You can always suggest that the person with teh Elite buy you a nice fat MSP card so you can reup on your downloads.

The OP listed Blu-ray as a positive feature, so fair game. Also, there was no complaint of the system failing to deliver, or of having to wait for the good games to come out. The question was whether or not he should ditch it solely because all of his friends are on another system.
I'm a little more biased than your average guy since I got the thing for its features as much for its gaming capabilities. In my case I wouldn't toss that aside just for playing with my friends online.

This...plus if he does like Blu-Ray, the cheapest blu-ray players (unless you find an amazing deal) are between $200-250. So buying a 360 elite ($400) and a BR player to compensate ($200) isn't very cost effective.

That... plus it's still one of the best Blu-ray players on the market, and can be upgraded via firmware. Its DVD upscaling ain't too shabby either.
But yeah, that's like trading a case of beer to a guy for a six pack with the intention of buying 18 more beers at the liquor store. (I don't drink, but thought the metaphor was apt)

Absolutely not! Stick with your PS3, you made the right decision in buying the PS3, but as other have said, if you can afford it buy the 360.

If you're just looking to play online, I'd pick up a 360 on the cheap, but buying a whole new Rock Band setup will be pretty expensinve. From what I've heard, the online play is vastly superior and worth the $50 a year.(although, for the record, I've never played a PS3) If you're happy with your current system, though, I wouldn't get rid of it.

noooooo
x360s are dirt cheap now. buy one and have both
i did and i couldn't be happier
Noooo. Say no to peer pressure dude. I was in the same boat as you, with all my friends having 360's for the longest time. Now they're all buying PS3's for the exclusives coming out and Blu-Ray.
Like others have said, try to pick up a 360 on the cheap, maybe refurbished or secondhand or something.
Have both.

I agree with everyone who said "no" on the first page. It is not worth it to sell your PS3 and trade it for a 360. I am in the EXACT same position as you. All my friends except 3 have 360s. And none of them are ever online playing the same games as me. For example, my best friend and I have extremely dissimilar tastes in games. He's always the first one to get the new sports game and I'm more likely to buy something challenging like music games or shooters. I made him buy Rock Band LOL. He loves it, albeit he only plays on medium (at best). :D Anyways, taking everything into consideration, save up and buy a 360. I would do this, but due to lack of efficient funds, I'll continue to get new games and (hopefully...soon) a new guitar. If you would like, you may add me as a friend. :) My PSN is the same as my username here: nashphx13z.

I say no. If you didn't have DLC and downloaded games, then it would have been a bit easier to say yes. But since you DO have both of those, then trading in your PS3 would be like throwing money away.
If you, or any other PS3 users who read this, want to add me, that would be great. I just recently got RB for my PS3, and I'm in need of friends that play RB. (PSN in sig)

No,I have both and frequently consider getting rid of the 360 only to realize it'd be redundant as the money I get off it would go towards getting RB over again on the PS3 and buying the DLC.

No need to get an Elite, really... get an Arcade, then a used 120GB hard drive from GameStop (they have them for $80-90). Elite for less than a Premium. You're welcome :)
That being said, from a quick perusal of my game shelves, I have twice as many PS3 games as 360 games at the moment (18 to 9, although I'm getting Tales of Vesperia soon, so 18-10), saying nothing of the extensive amount of PSN content I have. Of course, I tend to take a "ties go to PS3" on multiplatform games, although I don't have many of them.

I walked out to my sector, only to find out how ass Deadrising kicks.
And no, you shouldn't trade the thing in. It's too glorified to sell. Just save up(If you can) and get the premium 360....along with Deadrising.

i am a 360 owner and can tell you that i am actually looking at the PS3 as well. Would i trade it in? With all the money spent, absolutely not, would i walk away from a PS3 once God Of War 3 comes out? Again absolutely not. Someone mentioned buying an arcade and a hdd, that seems like the logical choice IF you really want to, the elite is not superior to the arcade, it only has the bigger hdd.
Getting both the system on the cheap (the discontinued arcade model) and the whole RB kit again would cost you another pretty and i am not sure how much you would get for the PS3 at trade in, something tells me you would be forced to spend more if you did that.
At the end of the day, even though it sucks playing on your own, or with complete strangers online, the Sony features are nice. I'd wait it out, i think there may be some deals coming up that could get you a 360 for very cheap.

Just stick with your PS3, you will look like the smarter gamer when their 360's RROD on them and you are ledt with the only functioning system. Or you could get a 360 arcade and a few games to play with your friends and enjoy single player games on the PS3, but that's a bit more expensive.

ah but isn't there also a possible failure with the PS3? not trying to start a war (since i posted he should stick with his system) but i don't think any machine since the PS2/Gamecube has been fail proof.

The ps2 had mad failure problems too. People tend to forget that. I mentioned it before, my friend's ps3 died on him, and I think I read up somewhere a thread that Leftover Crack(Biggest PS3 fanboy) that his ps3 died on him....wait for it....wait for it......THREE TIMES!!!! Good lord.

guess i got lucky then, i have 2 PS2 (older model and newer model) and neither of them have had a failure. Reason for the two, the older model is so slow.

Well the ps2 had the same problem as the 360(Though not as severe) where the launch models just kept on scratching or the laser wasn't aligned to the disk properly. And just like the 360, they released better, more reliable systems.

No offense, but that is leftover_crack...
Had my PS3 for about a year now without problems, and the 360 for about a month *knocks on wood*. Only system I've ever had to have taken in for repair within a practical lifespan was my PSP, and that was because of some mishaps involving charging it and somebody tripping over the cord :)

"Should I trade my ps3 for Xbox elite?"
Yes. I used to have all 3 consoles (PSWii60 lol), and I recently sold my PS3. Can't say I've really felt bad... there are a lot better games on the 360 than the PS3, the controller is more comfortable, Xbox Live and the arcade are amazing, and the ONLY things I regret leaving on the PS3 were the free online, and LittleBigPlanet. That's it. Everything else I like about my Xbox more.

I take it you don't watch movies. One of the main reasons why my 360 is rarely on.

Yeah I watch movies... on my computer. I don't really care about quality so long as it's some sort of high def picture.
And yes, I've seen a 1080p image from the PS3. It's impressive, sure, but it's easier and faster just to pop a DVD into my computer or standalone DVD player.
And the only BluRay movie I owned was Talledega Nights, and that obviously came with the PS3.
Besides, consoles are meant for gaming, not really movie watching anyway.

Well, for me, if I want to watch a movie, the 46" TV sure beats the 24" LCD monitor I have, so the decision is pretty well made for me there.
That being said, I know I'm not in the "typical user" category, either, as I have about 30 Blu-Ray movies (most recently having picked up The Godfather Trilogy).

So wait, you kept the Wii and the 360, but sold your PS3.
... how backwards are people these days?
I'm trying to sell my Wii, if you want a system that has nothing going for it look no further. There isn't a game in sight in the future that even has my interest peaked. Hence why I'm selling it.
My PS3 however is an awesome Blu-Ray player, plays Rock Band. And has a bunch of games I'm looking forward to down the pipeline.
In reality pretty much the whole gaming scene blows goats unless you like shooters these days, so it's not hard to see why people would sell any give system.

I would say the 360 is superior in terms of a gaming standpoint, but the PS3 is superior as an entertainment system.
And the PS3 DOES have better graphics, but I feel it's all about the games and fun factor, and I don't think the 20 minutes of "ooh's" and "aah's" are worth the price of a game. So it depends on what your needs are, if you use it as a game system or as everything.

I had a ps3 I didn't put much money into it like you have.. but sometimes I wish i didn't get rid of it. mainly for the blu-ray player... but I would do like everyone else has said and just buy the xbox... You don't necessarly need the elite.. just get the pro package with the 60gb HDD... that will do just fine, besides rrock band songs you don't use up that much space unless you buy movies.
Don't bother with the elite.. Go Pro
