The overdrive is broken in my guitar, and I don't feel like pressing Back every time I need overdrive and messing up my streak. I've taken apart the guitar and I still can't locate where the problem would be. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Anyone... this is seriously annoying, considering my mic is 75% broken too.

Yeah! My best guess is that's where its activated but I can't find where it is.

Ugh... I'm one of the few who actually like the guitar even if it takes getting used to and I'm the one stuck with broken overdrive while people who don't like the guitar but have it in working condition use the Les Paul instead.

my overdrive works intermittently as well. sometimes it just won't go at all, other times its perfect, then other times it turns on without me doing anything...there's no option in the ea support form either for overdrive not working :/ hitting the select button does blow as i sometimes hit the start button :(

Same here, I also like the guitar, but after shaking the bejesus out of it trying to get overdrive to activate, I'm about to crack it open. I came here looking to see if anyone had succeeded doing that yet.
Basically it'll activate overdrive when I'm doing nothing at all, but won't do it when I tilt the neck (or shake the neck, or shake the guitar, or take the guitar from around my neck and attempt to choke it to death, causing me to fail that song)

Return it and get a new one with the support program thing?

Have any of you tried tilting the next down and then quickly raising up? This is a bit different than shaking the neck or quickly raising it as, it seems, that the overdrive function is like a simple version of the Wiimotes motion sensing. That is, it presses a button when a piece falls into place.

I was having the same problems (random pwoer ups and not wanting to trigger when I raised the guitar) then I noticed that it only happened when I was slouching back in my couch. If I sat upright it all worked fine... perhaps this would work with you also. It is also better for your back :)
Hope this helps someone.

I'll try the tilting the neck down and back up to see if that helps...
I actually was slouching in the couch, but then was frustrated enough to stand up and try it (everything short of pirouettes)
Yeah, I'm going through the return process right now, but ironically I get an error on the tech support page. I choose xbox, the guitar, answer the questions they ask, and they ask me to log in. After creating an account, and loggin in, I get this:

Diagnostic code: page WWN, 2:
Bad sign when the tech support page is broken...
I'm content to use my GHII guitar in the meantime, but yeah, being able to send the guitar back would be nice.

I stand up while playing and overdrive doesn't work, same rattle when you shake the guitar.

Hook up the pedal with a 1/8" mono extension cable? Stomp to activate!

The rattle is normal. At least so long as there isn't something literally moving around inside the body. It's the sound of a spring or something.
Doc_SoCal has a forum dedicated to modding and repairing (http://docsrockbandmods.net/) music rhythm game gear. You can find better info than the wild ass guessing going on in this thread.
The most likely culprits for the broken OD activation are:
1) It's just broken. RMA it if you can, but some models of RB gear just break like that.
2) The tilt sensor needs to be adjusted for better performance. Sometimes its default position is improperly set and depending on the angle you hold the guitar, it won't trigger.
Again, a slight rattling sound is normal for all RB guitars. Don't mess around with the internal hardware unless you're comfortable with doing it and you don't mind breaking any warranty left on it. Doc's forum, however, is the concentrated place to go for any DIY info you might need.

The rattle IS the tilt sensor.

It's still not an indication that anything is actually broken.

its(the proper rattle) an indication the tilt sensor is still freely moving as it should. Goofball.
