View Full Version : BWT songs repeating over and over

So me and my friends got together last night to play some BWT and started off in Boston playing Nirvana, Weezer, and Garbage... We then moved on to other cities playing different songs. At this point we have probably played about 15-20 different songs.
However, the problem comes in mystery setlists and challenges. In EVERY single mystery setlist or challange (Roadie Rock Off, the Sound Guy thing, The Bus thing or airplane thing), its always the same songs, Nirvana, Weezer, and Garbage. It never fails. 2 song sets are always nirvana and weezer. Three song sets are nirvana weezer and garbage. 4 song sets usually nets us a new song or something different, however its usually here we go again.
So whats the problem? We have played more songs than just these three yet thats all we get thrown at us. Ive probably played nirvana and weezer 15-20 times at this point and its getting rediculous.

you forget that you're ideally playing gigs with every selection. Ask any band starting out you pretty much play the same songs over and over at different gigs. Once you unlock enough songs they will become more refreshing.

The thing is, we have unlocked plenty of songs, close to 20, and we still only get those three. We might even have more than 20 unlocked at this time, including some real fun ones, but it never fails, its always those songs.

i got the same problem going on. we probably posted at the exact same time. and its cool that real bands play the same songs over and over good for them i'd be cool with it if i was in a real band and saw real money and actually got laid but instead i decided to pay $170 to pretend and i'd rather not have the monotony lead to tossing the whole package out the window.

I'm not sure how this works, but I'm going through a solo career first to unlock all of the songs; mostly so my wife and I can do a QuickPlay on any song we want.
I'll let you know if the BWT mode has more variety after that. But my suggestion would be to go unlock all the songs in solo mode, and then come back.
It can't hurt to try.

This problem described by the OP is the main reason I stopped playing BWT.

I wonder if buying DLC helps at all.

It does add them in but there is nothing worse than a band starting out when the 2 song mystery setlist drops Joker and the Thief and Blackened on ya back to back in the first city.

I played 2 songs to test out the gear before my friends came over to play BWT - I played guitar on Mississippi Queen and sang Paranoid- that's it. The 2 songs that came up every single time in BWT's mystery setlist are those 2 songs.
I haven't tested it out yet - I'm at work :( - but it seems pretty certain that the Mystery Setlist songs are randomly chosen from songs that the band leader has unlocked in Solo Tour.

I've been doing just enough in BWT to open up new gigs that have maybe one or two new songs. Then I go back to the first city and chip away a little more. It has helped a bit in getting aried songs. DLC also gets thrown in, but if you're just getting used to the game, Metallica may be a bit more than you're ready for.

I think your not getting what the game is about. Your a band going on tour. Your going to keep playing the same **** night after night. If you werent I would think something is wrong.
It sounds like you disagree with the concept of world tour mode.

I agree with people that this is a common thing in real life bands on tour. However it's a video game, a few liberties should be taken to keep things interesting, and having to play the same songs over and over gets a bit tedious.

The repetitiveness of the songs was mentioned as a gripe in IGN's review. I haven't gotten a chance to play BWT yet, but it seems like unlocking all the songs in single player mode would help to break things up, unless you've tried that already... Maybe it's something with the software that a patch could fix.

I see some of the same songs over and over in BWT, but nothing like the OP is describing. Sounds like a bug.

You guys are not understanding the OP. From the beginning, it was understood you'd have to replay songs a lot in BWT, because you would unlock songs slowly. But I've experienced the same thing as the OP, and it seems super glitchy to me. Mystery Setlist was supposed to be a random selection of songs you've unlocked, including DLC and all that jazz. It's not. It's "I think I'm Paranoid" by Garbage, and "Say it Ain't So" by Weezer. THAT'S IT. Those two songs over and over and over again, in that exact order. Challenges, Mystery setlist, anything that involved 2 songs "Randomly" picked by the computer, it's always Garbage and Weezer. Trust me, something wacky is going on. My group has unlocked like 35 songs, and those two songs are still the only ones we play if we do a "Mystery" setlist, in that exact order, every single time.
There is no "Mystery" about Mystery Setlist. It's always the same two songs, no matter what venue you're in. That's not right. Unless I'm missing something. And no, "It's like a real band, you play the same songs!" is not an answer, because mystery setlist was never described that way by anyone from Harmonix. Sure there was supposed to be repitition, but I really don't think that's the idea.

I don't know about the OP, but my band has unlocked over 30 songs at this point, and we're still experiencing this problem. If we "Create a Setlist", we can choose from that 30 song list. But if we do Mystery Setlist, bam. Garbage and Weezer, in that exact order. It's totally wacky.

Another thing is depending on what continent you start on, you'll get a lot of the same bands who are native to that area.

Havent had this problem at all.
Im in a band, as the leader, and my roomate is the drummer. While I was at work he rocked solo drums all day.
When I came home, we started a NEW band with my brother. He was the leader. Our mystery setlists have all been random songs that our drummer completed on his solo tour and DLC.
Its been fun - because its always a gamble. If we get Green Grass, we're so screwed.

Just out of curiosity, are the problems being report on the PS3 or the XB360 versions? That could be relevant.
I'm having the same issue. My two repeating songs are also Nirvana and Garbage. We've unlocked a whole mess of songs, but our mystery set-list is always the same. I must've sung In Bloom 30 times last night!
I was starting to think that Curt Cobain is reaching out from beyond the grave to punish me for something.

No problems here.....we rarely get the same songs in Mystery Set list. Hate getting nailed with Blackened though when the wife is on vocals LOL!!

Yeah we kept getting Say It Ain't So as the first song in almost all of our mystery set lists. We were ok with it though because we all kind of like the song and although it is repetitive we are getting pretty good at it and pulling in some really high scores.

yea, i'd go w/this advice.....I played a good number of trx in solo mode, and I don't have this problem in BWT, at least not to that extent, it is using some "fav trx" that keep popping up, but not to the point of playing the first 3-4 songs at every challenge.
hope it helps.
reasoning might be to give you the frustration a band goes through when they have to play their hit single @ every show even though they've been around for a decade or multiple ones.
laugh it off and enjoy the ride, if you beat BWT in 24hrs would you feel better about dropping $170? I want BWT to go on for a long while personally, and it looks like it will. :p

Having the same trouble here. Started BWT in Amsterdam. Mystery Setlist is always Weezer followed by Garbage. If there's a third song it's always Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive. Playing on a 360. We've unlocked a dozen or so other songs, but it's always the same.
It's definitely not "random," as the game claims, so my money is on this being a bug.

We're actually having the same problem, only instead of Weezer, Nirvana and Garbage we always get the New Pornographers followed by The Killers. It started out as kinda funny, but now it's gotten pretty annoying. We've pretty much stopped doing mystery and random setlists since we're so sick of those songs.

Until I finished a solo career to unlock some songs, I got tons of repeat songs. But, now that I've done that... I've gotten things all across the gamut (well, none of my DLC has showed up yet... I can't wait until my wife has to sing metallica).
So, I suggest trying to unlock as many songs in solo as you can and then play BWT if the repetition is annoying you.

Yeah, except we've almost completely finished both a Vocal and Drums solo career and we're still having the same problem. It may just be luck of the draw, but those are some pretty impressive odds.

well i guess you should invest less time in video games and more time in attempting to get laid. go hit a bar or club

What home towns are you using when you get these repeat setlists, perhaps it's related to character home town?

Same problem here. I am on the 360. I really just don't understand how this could happen. Yeah, I get the whole real bands play the same songs thing but come on. After al the hours play testing this thing how did everybody playing not hate this non mysterious mystery set-list set-up?

11-22-2007, 12:21 AM
Yeah I played some solo mode yesterday and when we did a couple of mystery setlists in BWT it stopped the "Creep" repetition and we got random songs. So no doubt there's a bug but it looks like the way around it is to unlock through solo.

the trick is to do a solo tour and unlock all the songs. i didn't think this would do anything, but i thought i knew what songs were on the mystery list, so i did hard drums: and almost died. now that we have all the songs unlocked, we never get long repeats.

On the 360, and opening night, we were getting a pretty varied list for having unlocked almost no songs. I'll have to check it again tonight maybe now that I polished off solo vocal career.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you need to unlock songs in the solo career to have more choice in the world tour for mystery set lists

Not much of this happening, although the Mystery Request setlists always bring up Metallica because those appear to bring up your highest scoring songs. Ride the Lightning, our highest score on a given run, usually is in the Mystery Requests.
But the regular Mystery Setlists we haven't had much of a problem and we've only played three cities, not even half of the songs in those either.

I've been experiencing this myself. We've unlocked a bunch of stuff but most of the set lists contain the same songs over and over, Garbage, Weezer, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Radiohead.
The only time we get to play the newer unlocked songs it seems is when we get to choose our set list songs.
I like that it isn't a structured tier like Guitar Hero, but disappointed that you have to play the same songs about 1000 times just to get through BWT.

Maybe random setlist doesn't pull from EVERY song, just certain songs. Say you're in SMALL NIGHTCLUB and you play mystery setlist and it pulls from a subset of the full song list that are designated for SMALL NIGHTCLUB.
Plausible?

I've had a similar problem. I'm on the 360, my starting town is Paris, and we usually always get "Say it Ain't So" and "Mississippi Queen."
I've unlocked a few songs in solo, though, and I haven't checked to see if that remedied the problem...
But the problem is somewhat of a blessing 'cause when we get a song other than Weezer and Mountain, we usually end up having trouble. We know "Say it Ain't So" and "Mississippi Queen" like the back of our hands now. :P

ya that's plausible but I don't care for it. I'd like to see a bit more choices in my set lists whether at small clubs or not. It ain't a game killer, just a minor annoyance but since everyone here is voicing the annoyance, hopefully HMX will know to put a little more variety into the next game's set lists etc.

Play through the solo tour first. BWT seems to draw the random songs from anything that's unlocked for quickplay, so you'll have a much broader group of songs to choose from. It's dangerous though because you can get a song you can't play.
I guess that's the trade off; play the same songs over and over or take the chance of getting something you can't do. It seems to love giving me Green Grass and High Tides :(

Someone with this ... oddity... has gone and unlocked all the songs in solo and STILL has the really repetitive Mystery set list.
Maybe they used a different character. Perhaps it pulls only from songs that have been unlocked by a current band member(in solo career).
I unlocked a bunch of songs on the guitar. Then, I created a band with the same guitarist. It does seem to pull from the list that he unlocked. But he's unlocked so many that it's hard to tell.

This is my only gripe about Rock Band.
I played Garbage on drums probably 10 times in only a few hours last night.
I can now play the song without looking at the note chart...the song haunts my dreams.

Now that I think about it, it might only pull from songs that the band leader has unlocked in solo mode.
That would explain why different people have the same problem, but with different songs. Each instrument has a different set of songs to draw from on its first tier.

I played through the solo modes and completed the guitar career...then today my cousin and I started a band and we have had nothing but random songs in the mystery set lists...we had a mix of Roxanne, I'm So Sick, and When You Were Young, we did about 8 mystery sets and never had a repeat
so i guess unlock all the songs before you do BWT
i have the PS3 version by the way
