Yeah, I've had my fill of guitars, and I don't think vocals will be a problem..

drums may prove to be a different story, however, as they've always been my weak point. Can't wait to practice, though!

whereas i am excited by the addition of drums and i have much faith in harmonix, i don't see how it can be fun without at least 8-9 pieces of a kit. doesn't seem feasible when you start thinking about cost. but like i said, i have faith in harmonix so i'll remain optimistic.

I think it could easily be done with a 2-piece controller. One piece goes on the floor and has 2 foot pedals on it. The other piece would need say 3 drum pads. I'm sure they will come up with something good. I can't wait to see what it is.

I have to admit that I am really concerned about the quality of the
drums peripherial. Mostly because I know that the perfect peripherial
would simply be too pricey for the market, thus Harmonix will have to
balance quality against price.

I just hope they don't make the same mistake as Konami with Drummania for PS2.

I
have been a hardcore player of Drummania at the arcade, and when I heard that the
game was gonna be released for PS2 (Japanese only) I was totally
thrilled.

Then
I saw (and tried) the small, uninspiring, flimsy
and shaky controller and abandoned the idea of buying the PlayStation2
version. A friend of mine did get it, and had to stop playing after a
week, because one of the hinges on the controller broke and had to be
repaired at the end of every session with duck tape (sometimes even in
the middle of a song, extremely annoying!).

I have faith in Harmonix, the guys really know their stuff and I
trust they will be able to pull-off the trick where others have failed.
The only way to enjoy playing the drums at home, though, would be if Harmonix
manages to design a sturdy and responsive controller that feels like the real thing and can properly take the punishment.

If this game is going to
be about "feeling what it is like to play in a rock band", then this is
the only way to go. I am more than ready to dish out big money, if
the drums peripherial will be as good as I hope it will.

Another
option would be to include compatibility with midi drum sets already
available on the market, but I see it more as an added feature, than a
way to solve the problem. Designing a great controller that feels like
the real thing is what will make this game shine.

The drums are gonna be awsome!!!!!!!. but yeah i am also a little worried of the price because of the size that the drum machine will be, no doubt harmonix will try to make it as cost effective as they can. Good luck guys!

I am really looking forward to seeing the drums controller, I don't think it
will be like one of those electric drumkits you can get already but I expect they will do a grand job of it!

I am very interested to know if you will be able to play with real drumsticks or if it will be some plastic copy.
If it is not weighted like a normal stick it simply won't feel real and as enjoyable.

If there's Metallica music in there, they'd better create an EXTREMELY resistant controller cause I'm bashing it really hard and not some plastic crap.

I would also have to say that this is a major concern of mine since I have been playing drums for just over 14 years. Hopefully the controller will provide an authentic feel like the guitar hero controller does. I don't think any game will every be able to accurately depict playing the real instrument, but you can get close to the general idea. Oh, and Drumania was crap. I played it in an arcade and it was junk.

I don't know why i didnt think of this b4, but if there is going to be a feature similar to Star Power from guitar hero, how will u start it when using the drums? a smaller pad to hit? automatic? foot pedal?

I really hope that they are serious about this.... to get an authentic experience, we are gonna need more than a kick and snare drum. I'd say the least that could be included was two pedals (second can be simulating double bass or hi hat) two pads (hihat and snare) and some kind of crash cymbal. I would easily pay $100 for a serious piece of euqipment like that.

Have you played the Arcade version, because that thing is pretty damn sturdy.

I read that Roland has signed on for the game. Does this mean they are involved in the design of the drum controller? If so, then I suppose that is a good thing, though it could end up being pretty expensive as some folks fear. Still, I would rather pay a little more for something done right, than for a flimsy, unrealistic chunk of plastic.

Was just thinking about the Drum peripheral.... It would be cool if they could at least partially simulate the feeling of using the pedal on the BD. Ya know how when ya stomp in there just that bit of resistance and ultimate feeling of power, lol.
.... be better than just steppin on a li'l button.

Double Post!!!
This is what I kinda pictured the drum thing as looking like.... but I'm not sure if harmonix can legally have the notes scrolling in this guitar hero fashion....

from left to right....
Hi-Hat, tom tom 1, snare, bass drum, tom tom 2, ride cymbal
EDIT: not sure about the placement on the BD... I'm sure harmonix have it all figured out anyways.

Hmm, I didn't think about it as each drum has it's own line, I thought of it more like your four limbs have their own lines and the drums you hit would appear on it. Ie. Right hand line is mostly hi-hat except during rolls/fills/etc.
Not sure which way would work better, but I'm sure HMX will figure it out!

it will be interesting on how they pull it off....
but as long as they get some led zeppelin, the who, cream, and rush for the drums, I could see it being more fun than guitar.

Do you (the forums) think they'll try to include a cymbal other than a ride? I mean, they (HMX) do keep saying its going to badass and all that jazz. I guess the question is really how do you all think the cymbals are going to work out? just a ride, a ride and 2 crash, just 2 crash... (all involving the high-hat)

I'm hoping for hi-hats, ride and at least one crash, preferably two. One would work, though.

Awesome!!
I might rearrange your buttons though and hi-hat, snare and bass in the first three since they are going to be the three most widely used, then tom tom 1, tom tom 2 and cymbal
