Problems with fast drum sections

Overall I've had good luck with the drums, but I've noticed in fast sections, or in the entire song Run to the Hills on expert, i know that i am hitting a large portion of the notes but the game does not recognize it. Even in drum fill or big finish sections if i just try to hit a bunch of notes on one pad real fast it hardly registers any of them. Is anyone else having similar issues or could this just be a hardware problem?
