View Full Version : Advice: start your band with a GUITARIST

Hey everyone,

If you don't know already, the character you start a band with becomes that band's leader. This character, and the instrument they play, must always be in the band and the band can't even play without them. This is important to know, especially if you're playing with fewer than four people, because it limits how you can play.

If you create a band with a singer as the leader, for instance -- someone is going to have to sing every song, with that particular character. You can switch out of course, but someone's always going to have to be singing. Same with drums or guitar.

I recommend picking a guitarist as the leader, for a few reasons. First, more people out there are familiar with the guitar from the GH games. Second, with a guitarist character you have the flexibility of picking guitar or bass, and bass is a nice option for newer players or if you're tired and want something steady but not real fancy. Singing can tire your voice out after a while, and you might always run into a song that nobody really knows; drumming is great but perhaps one of the most difficult parts of the game, and can be tiring even on Medium.

Since you're going to be stuck with some character in every song you play as that band, it might as well be a guitarist! My roommate and I already decided to start over, because we want to be able to improve our fans and checkmarks with Expert scores during BWT; we initially started a band with a drummer, but neither of us is good enough yet to drum on difficulties higher than Medium.

Also, I really hope Harmonix patches the whole "stuck with one character as band leader" problem somehow, even if it's in the band management options window.

Seconded! Also worth note:

1. Make that band leader be someone on the main profile of your xbox, not one of the backups, so you can still earn achievements.
2. Preferably, take that band leader through the solo tour to unlock as many songs as you can, to improve your mystery setlists and build-a-setlists. (And so you don't need to spend band cash on their outfit.)

I did that with my band too. Apples' Party Possie (yes, that's the band name) will always have a Judy Nails lookalike at the helm on guitar.

guitars are half the instruments in the game.. this is why it's like this. about the only instance you would never have a guitar is if there were only two people and one was singing and one was drumming... yeah, how often is that gonna happen.

fwiw my first two bands had a drum and vocal leader, and both were seriously locked in to what three of us were able to switch around on, especially when two of my buds were very comfortable with guitar and not entirely thrilled to try drums or singing.
