Word of mouth is a strong thing, especially when it comes from someone like myself whom everyone I know asks for advice in regards to computers & gaming. I will be boycotting your products from now on and telling all friends , family, acquaintances to steer far away from your deceptive product offerings, and|or horrible customer relations. You should've at least issued a statement already, so that we know even if we are SOL we can make alternative plans (in regards to the PS3 GH3 problem)
You've now lost at least 20 customers for immediate purchases this holiday seasons , and who knows how many in the future to come. I also encourage the other hundreds (so far) of pissed off PS3 Rock Band owners to do the same. Good job guys.

Good luck to you.
While I agree with what you're trying to prove, I don't think that you'll achieve anything other than freeing up 20 copies of rock band for other people to buy.
In all fairness I just think people are taking this a bit too far... (and yes, I'm an owner of the ps3 copy so don't go thinking that the only reason I'm not mad is because my LP control works. I'm in the same boat as you. :P)

BTW, the whole 'huge demand' for RB that was supposed to sell out so quickly is completely false. I've been to 3 stores last night and each had palettes of at least 100 or more RB SE kits. And if you look on craigslist anywhere, people dropped all of their asking price to just above retail by ~$2 or sometimse less so that they can break even. So much for the demand. I'm going to spread the word and encourage everyone else who is pissed to do the same. For a $179 kit, this is unacceptable.

First of all, the shortage was created by the retailers because they all idiotically posted RB in their Black Friday ads. Once they do that, they have to hold a certain number of units for sale on that day. It isn't HMX's fault that retailers are being ******ed.

so true about the supply issue, I def fell victim to the hype and went @ midnight to secure a copy, only to find out the next day EVERY major retail store (at least in my area) had tons, well maybe not tons but def enough for the initial rush. but do I regret doing it? of course not the game is (and will be for those having probs) an amazing experience IMHO.

I'm very disappointed that my guitar only lasted 5 songs before the strummer broke, but I'm going to use a 360 explorer and the drums and the mic and keep playing until my replacement arrives.
EA/Harmonix are much more prepared than Activision/RO for a release that will have some hardware problems. Hardware problems are a way of life. You can't test all the hardware, you can only pull random samples off the line and test them and hope that the rest of the lot it came from are going to perform as well (or as bad and then get pulled before getting boxed up).
This is life. Go on with life. Enjoy the rest of the game/hardware while waiting for a replacement. It isn't anything to get completely burned up about (unless you don't have a 360/PS3 guitar that works with RB I suppose).

Yup, now I know to never buy anything for PS3 again unless used. My 360's rock although I've had numerous RLOD on both of them AT THE SAME tIME. I figured having two of them would minimize the possibility of any downtime from playing 360 but was I wrong! Now, one of them got 3RLOD again *sigh*.
Anyhow, I tried to return the PS3 version to get a 360 version but GameRush was not having it. They were very adamant about their strict return policy. I had 5 other 360 RB kits I purchased for gifts so I was debating on opening a 360 kit to use but then what would I do with this wasted open ps3 kit? I exchanged one of the 360 kits for a SECOND ps3 kit so that I can open and use the guitar. And on top of that I bought a GH3 kit last week because I thought I would be able to use that guitar.
Of course, I will be returning the 4 extra RB 360 kits , as to no further support their product. However, the damage is done, I've already wasted almost $500 on getting this setup to work, when it should'ev only cost ~$300. Not to mention the labor of running around town, fighting with the Gamerush manager, and looking for the sold out everywhere GH3 PS3 bundle. It's really the time that pisses me off ,more than the money.

last night about 2 hours after i got home (had to eat and all that stuff) we finally plugged in RB and the guitar and I played about 5 songs before the strummer stopped registering any hits at all. I waited another couple of hours while we played with 2 Explorer guitars (still haven't even opened the drum box lol). After, I came out to the computer, answered a few questions at the support link, gave my cc# (they won't charge it if you return your defective unit within 28 days), hit submit, and 30 seconds later it was done and I was satisfied, and went back to play some more lol.
This was about 1AM mountain time I guess (could have just said that instead of explaining it all right? lol)

What the hell is MSG?
It's a really bad flavor "enhancer", I believe.. that or a shortcut for "message". Both pretty damn annoying.
Personally I've found a few things that aren't perfect with RockBand as a game, but it's a brand new release of a product. Early Adopters need to understand this and be ready for a few bumps. So the Les Paul doesn't work flawlessly with the product? If you really wanted to be pissy about it, it's not their hardware so if Red Octane did something stupid with it, there isn't a guarantee it works. It's not like Harmonix ever made a PS3 controller for the GH series or anything.
And programmers can only test so much, and sometimes issues arise. Although, the "and/or bad customer service" thing is annoying - the game's been out for under 2 days and you think the developers can crap out a patch that fixes all your woes for free in that time? Obviously it either slipped past QA (that's "Quality Assurance" otherwise known as the testers) or they didn't include Les Paul interop in the PS3 release for zero day. I don't see ANYTHING on their site or their press releases that states that the PS3 Les Paul was guarenteed to work or anything. It's a "third party" controller for their game.
Wonder if the GH boards are all pissy about the Strat not working in GH yet...

It's not their fault that YOU bought the next gen SEGA CD. :D
All kidding aside. I understand where you're coming from. I seriously considered getting a PS3 first, but I got the 360 instead simply because it came out first. If I was getting screwed over like that I'd be pissed as you. It's just that 360 games are selling more, and if they released good quality products on a failing system, they wouldn't receive much profit.

Well that's what I'm saying. We know the GH1 & 2 guitars DO work on the PS3. However, Rockband still sees both those guitars as a regular controller and a guitar. The point I was making, is that those 2 guitars are BOTH OPEN standard, as well as HMX had PROGRAMMED THE ORIGINAL GAMES for those guitar so they should know it lik the back of their hands.
So there really is NO EXCUSE for HMX to play this political game and blame it on open standards being the issue.

Well thats not entirely true. They do have a wireless standard... Bluetooth. However, both RO and Harmonix deemed it unworthy to use on their controllers and implemented their own control schemes. Harmonix used the "Open Standard" that they've always used and RO used whatever it was they decided was a good idea. I've never seen a technical reasoning why Bluetooth couldn't be used by either company, I've seen mention of "timing" issues using Bluetooth but that's all. I'm still hoping that later on down the line they'll both use the Bluetooth standard on their PS3 control hardware (come on Upgraded Strat/RB2, and here's my vote for a wireless mic and wireless drums as well while I'm at it :) )
As a side note I have both 360 and PS3 versions of the game so I'm definitely not taking sides. :)

Why not complain to Bungie, that you cannot use Team Fortress 2 Characters in Halo? Why are you not boycotting Bungie for their lack of offering TF2 Characters or Maps in Halo, it's the same ****.
Go fall in a hole, jackass.

So if we are going down the road of saying alot of the PS3 owners having problems will tell 20 freinds and so on and so on.
What about the countless of people with perfectly working bundles that have people over to experience it and they tell 20 people and so on and so on.
I had bout 6 at my house last night that were like i need to go buy this now. I mean its just six not even half of the 20 you told not to but somewhere along the way it may work out.
Boycotts are never a guarantee, however, you have to start somewhere!

No. You obviously missed the big thread in which HMX clearly marks on their packaging with false advertising that this game WORKS WITH OTHER MANUFACTURERs' GUITARS.

Well obviously you must've missed the IGN statement they made Nov 20th.
This was the email a gamestop district manager got from EA (that he posted on IGN).
"Defective Returns Program"
Objective
Our objective is to provide the best possible consumer experience should any peripheral fail to work as expected.
Process
The Rock Band Special Edition box contains three separate notices (on the box, inside the box, inside software instructions) to contact Electronic Arts, Inc. via the following URL for the quickest resolution to any Rock Band issues: http://support.ea.com/rockband
If a consumer brings the defective product to retail, we suggest retailers recommend the consumer contact EA directly via the URL above. If the consumer is not able to access the URL, they can call (650) 628-1001 to receive the same support.
Utilize EA’s support system and our “roadies” will get you up and rocking again!
Do your homework, junior. Don't bring your newb funk into these forums.

So are you *****ing about VHS, DVD, and the HD and BR transition?
They are a company and are here to make money, just like every other company in the world out there. Plus the game isn't completely functional without the Strat (I.e. Effects).
You are just being a ***** about this whole deal. I've had to purchase the GH bundles and a RB bundle. You don't see me acting like a 13 year old on her period after her favorite Polly Pocket doll now has red hair rather than black.

Does the PS3 X-Plorer or any PS2 Guitars work with Rock Band? If so, their claim is still valid. I honestly, do not know the answer to that question, so if they do not, then I apologize. The XBOX 360 version does work well with the X-Plorer and the Les Paul, so it's not false advertising.

Since I've personally gotten more than 20 people interested in buying Rock Band we've effectively canceled each other out.

OK thanks. Just wanted to verify that the only reason I didn't get a tracking number after I hit submit was because it was early in the day (~9am), so everything probably wasn't set up yet.
np, I figured I'd wait until late night anyway because the forums were pretty slow here from all the traffic etc.
I have to say I'm completely and totally impressed that EA was prepared for this by how it has been handled.
I can't comment on the PS3. There's a reason I bought a 360 instead of a PS3, and with each new game or such that comes out, I'm more and more glad I bought the 360 instead (even though mine has already been replaced by the RROD).
I can comment that in my experience with Harmonix over the years, they've always been more up front than RO about everything. You have to understand it takes time for a company to come out with a statement after something like this. What if hmxsean made a statement without approval from the company and everyone (like we know they would, just like they would over at GH forums) decided to pick that statement apart like politicians do and then start a wild flaming war here? (something that is already happening because a couple of you feel like you have to scream and yell about boycotting and lawsuits and BBB complaints blah blah blah).
Return your defective game for a refund and move on to something else, or suck it up and deal with it and get the defective hardware replaced. One or the other. But you aren't going to find a lot of people here willing to listen to a continuous stream of nonsense and screaming when the majority of us are too busy enjoying RB...even people like me who had a guitar die by the 5 song and had to switch over to a 360 Explorer guitar.
The PS3 is probably a lot more problematic for the fact that the GH3 guitars don't seem to work at all in RB. I'm sorry for that. I won't say you made a mistake for buying a PS3, as that's a dumb statement from me or anyone to you or anyone.
I will say that Harmonix cannot control what RO/Neversoft/Activision's controller will or won't do for your PS3. Harmonix claims they have open standards and other controllers SHOULD work, but in the end, it isn't their fault if someone else's controllers DON'T work.
Yes, it's really that simple.
I feel like in your anger (not you Eastwood, but the vectorcomplainer guy) you are getting overly emotional and instead of stepping back to think objectively and coherently, you are letting your emotions control your fingers as you type. This is not really a good idea. I know you are upset. I myself am upset that my guitar died.
But you got to be realistic. Which leads us back to the "either return your game and get a refund and move on, or get an RMA for the defective part and deal with it". That's your choice. Screaming and trying to convince everyone here that you should be listened to over anyone and everything else is just folly as it is never going to happen.
If you don't believe that, go into Bungie's forums and start screaming about how Halo3 sucks or something doesn't work. Go to Guitar Hero forums and scream and yell about GH3 sucks or the guitar doesn't work. What do you get when you do that?
Easy...you get an entire forum full of people who aren't having a problem, or are mature enough to understand that sometimes problems do happen yet they are happy that EA provided an easy way to get a replacement, all those people will simply tell you what they are telling you in this forum/thread: deal with it, or get a refund and move on.
I've had problems with the Guitar Hero controllers in EVERY Guitar Hero game that has come out.
My first GH1 and PS2 controller = controller didn't work right out of the box, had to be replaced.
My first wireless PS2 controller when I bought GH2 = didn't work with GH1, and barely worked half the time in GH2. Guitar had to be replaced.
GH2 Xbox360 = Explorer guitar died within 2 weeks. Got it replaced.
GH3 PS2 = guitar didn't work at all. Took it back and got the 360 version
GH3 Xbox360 = guitar doesn't work as well as previous games...I get the double-strum all the time and had to modify the strumbar like many others at GH forums to get it to work.
Now, each and every time this happened, I was extremely pissed at first. But I sat down, and CALMED down, and made level-headed decisions. I never came to any of the forums and screamed how I was going to boycott or sue or complain to BBB or any nonsense like that. It's not necessary at all.

Erm no... It does not say that it states:
Works with MOST other controllers.
MOST. meaning those controllers which use open standards. RO/Activision did not use an Open Standards controller, thus there is no garuntee of it working. Would you like RB to get it working... And then be sued for patent infringment (if they did use a closed system that is a possibilty).
