I really hated the kick pedal that came with the Ion kit, so I went to my friendly neighborhood Guitar Center, and they hooked me up with one of these:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Roland-KD-8-Kick-Trigger-Pad-102561560-i1141807.gc
and a different kick pedal (that's not the problem though)
So I plugged it in and... nothing. Doesn't register even the hardest hits. I plugged it in as a cymbal for a test, and it works just fine (even velocity works). Back into the kick pedal port, and nothing. Just as a test, I plugged my red drum into the kick port and, even though I had to hit it pretty hard to register, it did.
So, what have we learned: The new kick trigger (Roland) works as any other drum, the other drums work as a kick controller, but the Roland doesn't work as a kick drum. There's a break in the triangle logic here.
tl;dr: New Roland works as other drums, Other drums work as kick, Roland does NOT work as kick (on the Ion set).
Since this whole setup cost me over $200, I was wondering if anyone has any similar experiences, or any suggestions, or basically any input to help me solve this problem. I really like how it feels and I'd like to keep it if there's an inexpensive way to fix this problem. But if nobody has any ideas, then I guess I'm returning it and getting an Omega pedal or something else instead.
