The other day, I was playing some brad paisley, and my friend was listening with me, and he was like "this dude is ***" for those of you unfamiliar with brad's songs. heres some lyrics:
To the teller down at the bank
You're just another checking account
To the plumber that came today
You're just another house
At the airport ticket counter
You're just another fare
At the beauty shop at the mall
Well you're just another head of hair
Well that's alright, that's ok
If you don't feel important, honey
All I've got to say is
(Chorus:)
To the world
You may be just another girl
But to me
Baby, you are the world
To the waiter at the restaurant
You're just another tip
To the guy at the ice cream shop
You're just another dip
When you can't get reservations
'Cause you don't have the clout
Or you didn't get an invitation
'Cause somebody left you out
That's alright, that's ok
When you don't feel important honey
All I've got to say is
(Chorus)
You think you're one of millions but you're one in a million to me
When you wonder if you matter, baby look into my eyes
And tell me, can't you see you're everything to me
That's alright, that's ok
When you don't feel important honey
All I've gotta say is
(Chorus)
When you see a deer you see Bambi and I see antlers up on the wall. When you see a lake you think picnics and I see a large
mouth up under that log. You're probably thinkin' that you're gonna change me. In some ways well maybe you might. Scrub me
down, dress me up, oh but no matter what remember I'm still a guy.
When you see a priceless French painting and I see a drunk naked girl. You think that riding a wild bull sounds crazy and
I'd like to give it a whirl. Well love makes a man do some things he ain't proud of and in weak moment I might walk your sissy
dog, hold your purse at the mall but remember I'm still a guy.
I'll pour out my heart, hold your hand in the car, write a love song that makes you cry. Then turn right around knock some
jerk to the ground 'cause he copped feel as you walk by.
I can hear you now talkin' to your friends sayin', "Yeah girls he's come a long way from draggin' his knuckles and carryin'
a club and buildin' a fire in a cave." But when you say a back rub means only a back rub then you swat my hand when I try.
Well now what can I say at the end of the day,"Honey, I'm still a guy."
And I'll pour out my heart, hold your hand in the car, write a love song that makes you cry. Then turn right around knock
some jerk to the ground 'cause he copped feel as you walk by.
These days there's dudes gettin' facials, manicured, waxed and botoxed. With deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands you
can't grip a tackle box.
Yeah, with all of these men linein' up to get neutered it's hip now to be feminized. I don't highlight my hair, I've still
got a pair.Yeah, honey I'm still a guy.
Oh my eyebrows ain't plucked there's a gun in my truck. Oh thank god, I'm still a guy.
Everytime you take a sip
In this smoky atmosphere
You press that bottle to your lips
And I wish I was your beer
And in the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peek-a-boo
I'd like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo
Hey that gives me an idea
Lets get out of this bar
And drive out into the country
And find a place to park
'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks
I know the perfect little path
In these woods I used to hunt
Don't worry babe, I've got your back
And I've also got your front
I'd hate to waste a night like this
I'll keep you safe you wait and see
The only thing allowed to crawl all over you
When we get there is me
You know ever guy in here tonight
Would like to take you home
But I've got way more class than them
And that ain't what I want
'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks
Oooh, you never know where one might be
And oooh, there's lots of places that are hard to reach
I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks
Oh, I'd sure like to check you for ticks

Most definitely. That's the honest truth.
Some people won't admit it, but we know what's up.

Yes, I did.
And now I just re-read them.
There's nothing ironic here.
Care to explain what you consider to be ironic?

I think the OP is referring to how his friend called Brad ***, but a lot of his lyrics reference women.
Not the strongest case of irony, but I think that's what the OP means.

The only thing ironic in this thread is that the OP thinks he's using the word ironic correctly.

I regret making this thread now... I forgot how ignorant and close minded some people are to other genre's of music
If a mod wishes to, this may be locked
All i see is further fire for its future, no intelligent discussion.

i·ro·ny
(r-n, r-)
n. pl. i·ro·nies
1.
a. The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
b. An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
c. A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See Synonyms at wit1.
2.
a. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: "Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated" Richard Kain.
b. An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.
3. Dramatic irony.
4. Socratic irony.
[French ironie, from Old French, from Latin rna, from Greek eirneia, feigned ignorance, from eirn, dissembler, probably from eirein, to say; see wer-5 in Indo-European roots.]

Case: "Yo, that totally straight country singer sure is *** an' stuff."
Verdict: As per 2. a. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs--one might reasonably expect a not-*** man to be referred to as not-***.
Final Judgment: On the irony scale, I give it 5/10 irons--vaguely ironic, perhaps better described as just plain stupid, but more or less fitting the basic definition.
Tune in next week ... Same ironic time ... Same ironic channel ... For yet another episode of "Is That Irony!"

This doesn't apply, for two reasons.
First and foremost, "***" has turned into a demeaning term (despite the pride movement etc), which means there's a good chance that it wasn't meant literally.
Secondly, if the OPs friend wasn't aware of the the singer's sexual preference, it's not irony -- just a case of him being wrong.
The case of the OP intentionally using the word "irony" to describe something thats not ironic is nothing if not ironic.
