I'm trying to start a multiplayer world tour. The mic is plugged into one of the front USB ports. The mic is not lighting up as on option for the third player to join the band. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Since there are no buttons on the Microphone, the only way to join the Band with the Microphone is to have an Xbox 360 controller powered on to make selections for the microphone. When you're ready to use the microphone, press the A button to join the Band.

I hope that helps!

Sorry to be thick, but when you say a controller must be plugged in, isn't the guitar or the drums a controller? When I have them plugged in the mic is not recognized. So are you saying that Guitar, Drums, and a standard xbox controller plugged in will to the trick?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, you need to have another seperate controller (wired or wireless) connected. If you try to use an instrument as the controller, when you hit "A" to log in to the game, you are loggin in on that instrument only. It is programmed to understand that when a standard controller is activated that it "goes along with" the microphone.

Thank you for clarifying that, Dan. I've updated my post to be more clear.

Is the Karaoke Revolution USB headset mike a supported USB mike? Mine is powered and functional -- when I plug it into the hub or directly into my 360, I hear the earpiece speaker clicking and powering on -- but Rock Band claims I don't have a mike connected.
If not, is there a list of supported 3rd party microphones and headsets? It'd help folks trying to sing + guitar if we knew of some hands-free mikes that the game will accept.

Thanks guys. That was it. Having a great time so far : )
As a side note. I just read through the manual (ok, skimmed) and it's not super obvious you need a controller plugged in along with the mic to enable it. Thanks.

It actually took me a little while to figure it out as well. When the mic came in the bag thats all was there, no instructions or anything to tell me to use a controller.

When i plug in my mic, the light on the ring doesn't even light up...is this what you are talking about??

you navigate with the controller, and then just sing into the mic. The downside is that you are going to go through controller batteries really fast because it never turns off from a timeout.
It took us a while to figure that out :)

i was about to ask the same, they give you an adapter and the drums and guitars have a spot for them, but the headset doesn't register. i tried powering on a regular controller, and it still told me there was no mic

I have a PS3, and I have read this thread (and the other threads) regarding needing to use a controller to make the mic work, so I am aware of that requirement, but so far no luck trying to use the mic. I keep getting the message "No microphone has been detected. Please connect a microphone to play this game mode as a voalist". I have tried all four USB ports (which work fine for other peripherals). Also, when I plug the mic into any of the USB ports while I'm not in RB, the message "unknown USB device detected" appears on the screen, so maybe that's an indicator of the problem.
Any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone else have problems with the Mic when a drummer is playing? Everytime my bro hits the drums it screws with the octave and causes the vocals part to tank---we have decided to not do vocals until we get it worked out----when we do sing it is only solo----sucks royal.

Hope you have a play and charge kit, because otherwise your controller will go into sleep mode and shut off in the middle of playing :P

I thought of doing this - or buying another microphone later on.... but they game promised that any USB compatible mike will work. Is this not true?

I just bought a computer USB mic and it worked fine, so it must be a problem with the mic that came in the RB box.

My mic worked just fine after I figured out the whole controller use thing. Something I did, with the controller turned on (you can be sure of this when navigating through screens), I always had the guitar in the first USB port and the mic in the second, and it works everytime. Haven't tried it any other way, but this seems to work quite flawlessly, solo and multi.:)

Hey, are you going to update us on the Madden patch or what? Obviously you are the same EA_Violet as this one:
http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=285018&tstart=0&start=0
You have shoddy customer service and I hope that you respond to the Rock Band community more than the Madden community.

I am having an issue where the microphone is recognized, and the sensitivity is cranked to full, but it is not picking up anything. I have tested it on my computer, and it works fine there, but in game it is a no go? Am I doing something wrong here? I have a controller turned on, I can get to the song, if I unplug the USB mike the game tells me to reconnect it, but when I go to sing nothing. My xbox 360 headset will work if I leave the game in come in with just that connected.
I currently have a standalone version of the game (can't get my bundle til Dec. 17 when it releases in Canada). The usb microphone I am trying to use is a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone. I can't find a model number on the packaging anywhere. Could someone please help here. The clarity of the xbox headset is lousy for this game. Thanks

bump for a possible answer please. Just to recap the issues here:
xbox 360 platform
microphone is recognized by the game.
controller is turned on (wireless model, don't have wired except for xplorer guitar)
microphone sensitivity is turned up to the max in game
microphone output is turned up to the max
microphone model is a USB Logitech desktop microphone
microphone shows power is on
if I unplug the USB microphone the game will tell me to plug it back in
I can get to a song, but when I go to sing the microphone is not outputting anything
I have tested this microphone on my computer and it functions normally
The microphone is brand new
I am using dolby digital in game and on the console
The microphone does have noise canceling capability if that has an negative impact on the game it would be helpful to know
If I use the headset microphone that comes with the 360 controller it works ok
Any help here getting the USB microphone working would be appreciated. This issue is not addressed by the sticky in the top of the forum list:confused:
