View Full Version : Entering Cheat Codes for RB2 on JP PS3

My PS3 is Japanese. I think it's because of this, but the red button has always been confirm/yes for me while green is cancel/no. It wasn't a big deal in RB1.

But in RB2, now that you have to enter cheat codes on the special screen, and hitting confirm/yes there takes you out of that screen, I find I'm not able to enter any of the cheat codes that include the Red button. I tried substituting Green for Red already; that didn't work.

So for instance I was able to enter the "Awesomeness Detection" which does nothing, since that's YBO YBO YBO, but I can't enter in Stage Mode which is BYR BYR BYR since as soon as I hit R it takes me out of the code-entering screen, and BYG BYG BYG doesn't work.

Is there a workaround? Am I screwed? And I beg Harmonix to keep this issue in mind if they include such things in upcoming games.

I'm assuming this is a console-level setting, and not something you can work around by setting the system language to English or something?

The system language is already on English. It must be a console-level setting but there's no option to change it that I can find. I know the PSP is the same way, and that the only way people have managed to swap O/X is with hacked custom firmware...

My friend with a US PS3 offered to bring his console over, but unfortunately RB2's save file, just like RB1's, is locked from copying, so no go.

It's more of a Sony issue, but still, the programming seems awfully arbitrary on the part of HMX. For instance, even though red/circle is yes for the vast majority of the game, in the art maker (for logos and tattoos and stuff) circle is yes EXCEPT when you're actually moving stuff or scaling art, then you have to hit X once you're done moving. It seems pretty random and suggests that HMX didn't go with a straight "use accept button for this function" but in some places used colors and others used functions.

Hate to sound petulant, and I don't expect any fix for this, but could I get some acknowledgement from HMX that they're aware this issue exists? Mainly I just would hate to see the same thing happen in future HMX games...

Just saw how GHWT handles this. They do single button entering too but with one key difference - they make the Start button the 'finish entering cheat code' button. That would completely solve my problem, then it wouldn't matter what functions green/red have. It'd be nice if RB2 were patched to change it to this way, but again I don't really expect it to happen, just want to throw that out there for future games.

I also have the same issue. Frankly, I think Harmonix should be taking care of this in their patch. They should recognize the console region, then make sure Confirm button for the region is not included in the cheat code.

Wow! I struggled with this forever and I thought I was completely nuts/stupid for not getting how to enter the codes without exiting. (I have a JP PS3 as well). Yes, there's probably not many JP PS3 owners, but it would be nice if this could be addressed.

Thanks!

I had another thought the other day, which was to borrow a friend's PS3 (US), swap out the hard drives (since the saved file is locked), then use it to enter the codes. Only problem is, turns out that PS3 drives are formatted to the specific console, so if they're put in another console it won't recognize the drive and just asks to format it.

As I see it there's only a couple of solutions:
1) Hope that Sony introduces the ability to switch O and X in a future system update
2) Have Harmonix patch the game so that something like Start button is exit out of the code entering screen
3) Have Harmonix not lock the save file, then copy that to a friend's US PS3, enter the codes, and copy it back

Don't want to get into the whole "why did HMX lock the save file" thing again but I'd guess that's the easiest, though maybe Option 2 would be a fairly easy thing to do too.

Are you serious??? I'm glad you mentioned that since I was considering getting a US PS3 as Blu-ray player and possibly moving this hard drive to that one.

What are the three un-lockable (for us) cheats, anyway? The web is pretty confusing but it seems like they are "All Venues", "All Songs" and "Stage Mode". The first two aren't that important (IMO) but if Stage Mode is only available through the code, that would be unfortunate.

They're Unlock All, Rock Band 2 Venues only (shows only the new venues, I think mostly in conjunction with Quickplay?) and Stage Mode. I think the only thing Stage Mode does is disable pausing, and turns on No Fail. So really, right now it's no big deal for me that I can't get those cheats, I'm just trying to bring up the issue proactively so that it doesn't burn us in future HMX games. If a modifier I use from time to time (Performance Mode or Hyperspeed, mostly) were locked out for me it would be really, really annoying.

Oh ok, thanks!

I was a bit lost because there was confusion between Stage and Performance modes and it didn't help that there are also cheat codes for things that are already available.

I think the simplest solution would be for alternate cheat codes to be offered that use neither green nor red. I don't see how it could harm anyone if there were more than one way to unlock the same item.

I really want all the songs for the fun of it. I paid way not play?

But I also have a JP console -> any help with that?

You can still obtain "all" of the songs but you just have to unlock them by playing through the game. The cheat code will instantly unlock all of them but I don't think you can save any scores or achievements you get, anyway.

Well that may be true. But I don't care for the game much. I want to have fun. I don't have time to play it all. I want to play some songs and enjoy with frineds.

Any soloutin in the near future?

There'll be no solution unless either HMX patches the game or Sony updates the firmware. Doesn't look like either will happen anytime soon.

I second that. I think my party today won't have anyone singing Painkiller or Ace of Spades >.<

Will there ever be a patch for this?
