I just got it and played through a bit of it. It is fantastic!

Does anyone else have it?

Nope not yet.

Is it "crap your pants" scary as they have said?

I am actually debating with myself about that game... I'm going to do one of the following.

1. Buy it now for the 360.

2. I want to upgrade my PC. I have a 7900 right now. I plan to get a new video card for Christmas, and Dead Space might be the game to test it out with.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking forward to rent this game and beat it. It look pretty bad ass. Heard it was about 20-25 hours.

edit : which is awesome for a survivor horror ;)

Its actually 10-12 hours, according to Ign's review.

I will rent it, but i cant drop 60 on 12. Thats barely 2 days worth of gaming for me. you know?

Plus im getting fable, farcry, and fallout soon. Something had to go...

I have every thurs, fri, and sat off work. I play games while my g/f works. So yeah, two 8 hour days beats Dead Space, and then some.

Ill save my horror game monies for Left 4 Dead and RE5.

I might break down and get this one. Looks too good to pass up, even if it's a bit short. Fallout 3 is on my short list, so I might wait for a used copy though.

I was thinking about getting it. I'll check back on this thread every now and again to see people's feedback on it.

I remember reading about this game a little over a year ago in EGM. It sounded like a fantastic idea.

Ready and raring to play Dead Space

Wow, thanks for the link, GREAT trailer. After seeing that, reading the review and on BillLauren's recommendation I'm definitely going to rent this.

(Once I've finished Star Wars The Force Unleashed and had my fill of SOCOM......and made sweet love to RB2)

I have been playing the past couple of days and am on Chapter 3 right now. All I can say is this is the best survival/horror game out this generation until RE5. Graphics are top notch, the gameplay is fun but the controls take a little time (a lot of trigger combos to do things), the sound is fantastic you can hear the creatures moving through the walls and above and below you it is probably the best part. While it isn't as scary as Silent Hill so far it definitely has those OMG moments. All in all great game worthy of a rental at least.

The Blockbuster by my place is completely sucky. They don't have it yet and, like many others in this thread, less than 30 hours of gameplay just isn't enough for 60 bucks.

Blood in zero gravity! Monsters you CANNOT kill by headshot, other monsters you cannot shoot in the belly. Meaning you have to use strategy even when deciding where to shoot? . . . definitely a must play.

Patiently waiting for 10am eastern, for Blockbuster to open up, so i can call and see if they have it, and if so, drive 20 minutes because the one 3 minutes away isnt getting it, because they are ghetto.

Also, so the dude playing SW:FU.

I just beat that last night. Lol. That game was so disappointing. As star wars cannon, its awesome. As a game, it was overhyped, and is nothing more than the likes of Conan or N3, with force powers. (a little better than those two, but not much)

Dead Space is the same thing that's been done 20-50 times already so it's been rather predictable and unenjoyable for me. Horror games tend to lose their touch and get very boring when you know what's around the next corner or when you say "I bet this thing is gonna catch on fire or blow up or not work in some way" and then that's exactly what happens,no fun. Guess it might be good if you've not already seen/played hundreds of horror movies/games. Flamethrower is pretty ****in rockin though.

I've been bad, and spent the money that was intended for Dead Space on Silent Hill 5 instead(not that I regret that so far; it's lived up to my expectations), so no more games for me until after Xmas. It's a no-brainer purchase for me though, so I skipped the thread in case of spoilers. I stayed with the animated comics all the way through though.

**Mid Game update**

I just passed chapter 6. There are 12 chapters. Its Halftime fools.

First off, let me say, this game is solid. Beyond solid, actually. Its a great game. Not game of the year or anything like that, but its still a good game.

Pros:

1. Sound. This game has some amazing sounds. From the click-clank of something sprinting at you, to the howling screeches of some of the monsters, to the heavy breathing of your character (which i still cant get used to, and think its a monster behind me. Paranoid, huh?). Most notably, is space. In the vacuum, the sound goes mostly away, and just sounds totally great. Its hard to explain w/o experiencing.

2. Gameplay. The concept of having to de-limb enemies sounded great. And it is. Its a completely different experience, from just aiming for the head, and even more intense where there is a pile of limbs, and you cant tell what is moving, and what is ragdolling. Its crazy fun, and scary as hell when you decapitate a monster, that feigns death, and then his headless trunk springs up and tries to take you out from behind.

3. Graphics. Rich texture detail, awesome gore. Space looks amazing when you are out there. Look at something that is rusty/decayed. Try not to tear up at the beauty. Try it. Youll fail.

4. Xbox 360 elite suit. Its free to download, and unlocks all 25 item slots right from the beginning. For free in game too.

5. Lighting is great. As in most horror games, it goes out at inopportune times. The difference here though, is it actually makes me nervous. One particular hallway i actually didnt move until the light came on (full 30 second). Just too scared. Clausterphobic.

6. Monsters. Finally, something fresh. The monsters are awesome. They are tough as hell sometimes, and fast. They will lurk, and then full on sprint at you, jumping 15 feet just to slice you apart. Rip the fat ones legs off, and it rolls around to get itself righted, and then sprints at you on on its claws. The brutes are wicked (STASIS!) and you will definatly have a "Where the HELL is that claw coming from" moment, at some point. Good monster. Except the Leviathan. Kinda lame, and really easy for a "boss"

Edit: 7. Menues. Are easy to navigate and integrated beautifully in game. As in, you are running from monsters, while using medipacks. Awesome. Nuff-said

MEH (things that are ok, but need tweaked)

1. Zero Gravity. Its fun as hell to hop from area to area. Its even crazier when you turn around and there is a monster flying towards you from across the room. Unfortunatly though, it can be frustrating to navigate sometimes. Not bad, just...frustrating.

2. No quick spin. I understand why its not there. It makes the clausterphobia level increase exponentially. But dammit it sure is annoying not being able to quick spin

Edit: 3. Navigation lines. Click right stick and a blue line pops up for 1 second that shows you where to go and faces you in that direction.. really nice to have, but is a little glitch sometimes (spin in a circle, just to have your guy point the way you were facing).

Bad

1. The only bad thing about this game is the back tracking. Its A->B->A over and over again. Kind of annoying, and could have been resolved with a better level design.

Well, thats all for now. I will hopefully finish the game tonight (have too, fable and far cry come out tomorrow at midnight) and ill write a part two on here probably tuesday at work. Later all.

This. Sometimes the game feels like you're a delivery boy. All the tasks are handed to you. I only wish there was more exploring to figure out what to do and less "First get this, then this, and final go here and use those two things."

Yeah. lol. The exploring is limited to "oh, theres a door that uses a power node. Good catch, me!"

Alwell, its still solid. Cant wait to get home and hopefully beat it.

So, me being someone who has never played a horror game or even seen a horror movie, this looks good.

I'll probably pick it up once it's a bit cheaper, it looks pretty good, so I might even get it sometime soon.

Out of that list...Fallout 3 is truly the only "absolutely, under no circumstance can't miss" game. Fable will be great, gears will be undeniably epic, and LBP looks as fun as it is cute, but fallout is just...its...dare i say...perfect?

I'll know for sure in 8 days, but i have my money on this being the next 300+ hour game for me, what with all the re-runs ill play.

Sorry for the double post. I went to the dead space website and under fan tools you can download an mp3 of that creepy lullaby song that you can hear in that room with the candles.

I have a plan. My computer is in the living room. After my gf goes to bed I'm going to put this song on repeat then turn off the monitor and go to bed. She always gets up in the middle of the night and walks to the bathroom in the dark. She hasn't played this game so she won't know what it is.

A week or so late, i finally beat dead space. As promised, here is my update...

Its a truly solid game. Unfortunatly by chapter 7 i got tired of the A>B>A setup. It got to be redundant beyond belief. The battles themselves held up quite well. The monsters got a little... well, you know how in FFXI you fought a rabbit, and then an hour later, you fought a jungle hare, and it was pretty much the same monster, just more health? Well, thats what happens. The necromorphs turn black, and take 2 shots per limb instead of 1. Whoop-de-do. Oh, and the fast necromorphs feel out of place...they run at you fast, stop, shake violently long enough for you to chop their legs off and thats it.

The actual gameplay itself just wasnt fun any longer. I still loved de-limbing monsters, and the story was great (what a twist!) but my role was reduced to an errand boy. I got frustrated to the point that i just wanted to be finished and stopped looting (which there is also waaay to much of.) to finish. Fortunatly chapter 8 and 12 are barely 30 minutes a piece, and the whole 12 chaper game took 9.5 hours.

Would i recommend it? Yeah, i would. Just make sure you rent for $8 instead of buy. It is a good experience just a little boring towards the end. If you are comparing this game against getting Farcry, Fable or possibly Fallout, then im tempted to say no.

Overall B-.

I was a huge fan of the first two silent hill games but I lost interest after the 3rd one. I just played through dead space a second time and I'm in a mood to play another horror game, maybe I'll give SH Homecoming a shot either that or Bioshock
