Is anyone else having this problem? I've gone through 9 batteries in about 8 hours of play.
Is this normal, or is my guitar defective?
Also, does anyone know of some consumer friendly rechargeable batteries?
Thanks in advance.

Mine's sucking them down faster then a dime store hooker... Went through the pack that it came with in ~2hrs.

Rechargable batteries is the only way to go......;) if you can get them, buy sony rechargable batteries, the ones you use for digital cameras.

I'm having the same problem - a maximum of two hours on each set of new batteries. I've played my wireless GHIII PS3 guitar for at least 100 hours on the original batteries, and it's still going. 100 hours is probably above the call of duty, but 2 hours is ridiculous. It would be great to have all the PS3 players chip in with their experiences with battery life so we can know if it's certain guitars or if they're all like this. This is a major defect in the RB guitars if they only last two hours.
Okay, I'm going to start a new thread as well taking a poll on battery life for PS3 guitars.

Seriously? are you guys hitting that off switch on the back of the guitar. Mine has to be at about 8-10 hours on the 2 crappy looking batteries that came with it.

I put in new batteries, play for about two hours straight and then the guitar doesn't work anymore. Put in new batteries and it works again. Then, just to make sure, I put in the batteries that I suspect have died, and the guitar doesn't work again.
Also, my PS3 RB guitar takes three batteries - does yours only use two?

mine's still going strong since release day. probably 10 or 15 hours of play and it's still good. i also turn the switch off on the back when i'm done with it.

My wife always forgets to turn off the unit - other than the controller sleeping, it's on all the time. We've been playing daily since launch on the same pair of batteries.

Make sure you shut the switch off on the RB fender controller for PS3; the GH3 shut off automatically and I am still running on same batteries that it game with a month ago. RB I played for at least 38 hours in the past five days and they haven't died on me yet. Just pissed off my strum bar was faulty but getting new controller from ea/harmonix in less than 2 days.

Controller not responding, will not turn back on after it has gone to sleep, Stop don't swap those batteries! try reconnecting to the usb wireless reciever (pushing the little button on the top) apparently if the guitar is not connected you can not turn it on. So it may not be your batteries after all. We got about 6 hours on the batteries that came with the kit, then the low battery message popped up. been playing for days on a set of energizers.

I just got my replacement guitar, and so far I've played for about five hours on the same set of batteries. So, considering I'm not doing anything differently, it looks like some of the guitars have a defect that causes them to drain batteries really fast.

I have played more hours than I care to admit - still on the same batteries that came with it.
I am also on the same original batts. I put in( I put in energizers right from the get-go) I don't trust cheezy looking batteries, like the ones they came with. I've played proly about close to 30-40 hrs on the same set! I also leave the switch on "on" all the time. It's proly those cheep azz batteries it came with!
I mean , why couldn't they pack it with Duracells or Energizers like with the Hess trucks or most products that include batteries? Instead they come with some made in china brand Lenmar!
Just venting...

Mine are the same as the original (11/20) and I've played quite a bit with no problem. There is no defect causing batteries to die, people must be leaving the on/off switch on!

I have plenty of hours on my guitar, 1 whole solo tour and quite a bit on the BWT with the original batteries. Not sure how many hours that computes to, and I almost never use the on-off switch. The auto-sleep kicks in pretty quick (2 minutes maybe)

Unfortunately that isn't what was happening (unfortunate because that would be an easy problem to fix). I would play for two hours straight and the batteries would be drained. I then put in new batteries and played for two hours and the new batteries would be drained. Just to make sure it wasn't some other issue such as connectivity, I would then try the old batteries that I thought were drained and confirmed that they were dead. I'm not sure what would cause this in certain guitars, but this definitely wasn't a case of leaving the guitar on all night when we weren't using it.

There's actually a bug with this (that I meant to report earlier). I had a controller whose batteries were dying, and for some reason the PS3 kept thinking the batteries in the guitar were dying. If you see the PS3 telling you the guitar's batteries are dying.... disconnect all other controllers. The PS3 can't actually sense the battery life on the guitar at all (if you hit the PS button, it gives you a dash for battery charge).
Try that out, and double check your "drained" batteries in other devices. I bet they work fine. I've been using the original batteries for dozens of hours of play with no problems, and I don't even always remember to hit the off switch on the back - the auto-off works wonders.

I came upon a bettery problem with the replacement guitar, I have Enigerizer 2500, 1800 rechargeable batteries, and also Duracell 1800 rechargeables, they all work with the faulty strum bar controller guitar, but none of them work what so ever in the replacement guitar I received.
I thought maybe they was not making good contacts, so I took the back off the old and put it on the new guitar with all 3 sets of batteries each test and none of them even kick the replacement guitar on what so ever, but they all work in the old, please explain that one.
The only thing I can think of is either A) I have a new faulty guitar, or B) being that the store bought regular batteries have 1.5 volts and the rechargeables have 1.2 maybe it is not getting enough volts for the guitar to kick on.
I have tried asking EA about this before I send the old guitar back, but no response, so lets see if anyone else knows a fix, or has the same issue.

That's interesting (and bizarre). I tried using rechargeable batteries on my first guitar (the one that would only last two hours on one set of batteries) and I had the same result. It looks like my replacement guitar lasts way longer on a set of batteries, so maybe I'll try using rechargeables with the replacement.

I just got my replacement with and it has this EXACT problem and no its not to my miss use by leaving the switch on or off. As much as I don't want to I am sending it back, there is no way I am gonna go through 12 batteries a weekend when my other guitar still has the original batteries in it and going strong.
