Tarkus was surprisingly good, as far as drumming is concerned, a solid 9/10 on my "kickass drummers" list, but PEart still stands atop the crowd. 10/10 for PEart.
(for the record, only like three drummers come to mind when I think awesome drummers: Peart, Portnoy, and Moon.)

Im not saying its wrong, its great that these videogames are showing people(mainly young people) all this great music. But I just find it funny that so many people on these forums are all like "OMG Rush is the greatest band of all time"(funny enough, this state of mostley took off around the confirmation of "Moving Pictures"), when a good amount have only heard of them recently.
Honestly, I don't really know what exactly I'm aiming at right now(I'm watching the sox game and about 9 beers deep, so I'm sure my sentence structure sucks), I'm just trying to mix things up.

Although it doesn't fit the epic 20 minute limit, I think Close to the Edge by Yes might have been a better choice. It seems to fit more in this type of battle, both bands house amazing drummers.

peart is held in such high esteem, not because of how fast he can play or how complicated his rythms are, its his ear for what sounds good. jazz just doesnt sound good, unless your a musician, but then its just, wow, look how fast he can play. buddy rich is the best drummer ever, but i would never put any of his stuff in my collection, because it doesnt sound good
This post is massive failure. I know plenty of non-musicians who love Jazz. Hell, I haven't seriously played any music in about 3 years and I still like jazz.
Jazz has almost nothing to do with speed, though. Most Jazz songs honestly aren't very fast. The reason Jazz drummers (and musicians in general) are held in such high esteem is because of the complexity of the music. Jazz doesn't rely on simple 4/4 beats or dwell in the same keys as much as typical rock music. Additionally, there's a lot of room for improvisation and technique in jazz music that isn't available in a lot of rock music.
palmer dont need a drum kit the size of the entire stage to show his talent either:

That's odd. Peart sounds good on a normal-sized kit too!?!
palmer did just as well with just a snare

My point was not that Peart was better than Palmer (a separate discussion, which we disagree on, but I'm willing to accept our differences), but that Peart is good because of talent, training, and technique, not because of a big drum kit. Peart sounds good regardless of the kit you put him on, he just happens to use a giant kit when playing with Rush.

Well that part is obvious. Otherwise, Mike Portnoy (http://www.tama.com/artists/featured/images/header_mike-portnoy2.jpg) would be the most talented drummer in the world, and we all know that thats far from true.

No, Terry Bozzio (http://www.boulderdrummer.com/graphics/worldrecorddrumkit2uo.jpg) would be.

Hey, I didn't say he was bad, he's excellent. He's just not the best (IMO), and he had a big kit.

I wonder if drummers have something known as "kit envy" :p

I am very envious of certain kits, and I'm not even a very good drummer.
